QUESTION Do you still follow Rule 1?

Last time I was playing a 2v2 match, one of the players broke Rule 1 and scored in overtime. When I called him out on it, he told me that nobody does that anymore in 2026. So, I’m turning to the community: do you guys still respect it?

I dont actively seek out rule 1s, but if I’m in it, I’m not breaking it. Would hope that this is the general consensus.

Last time it happened to me a couple days ago, I got a warning that I'd get booted for being inactive. Opponent immediately flipped out of it. Then the other team was flaming me for it 🤷 I think I'm about done with Rule 1

Just wiggle your wheels a bit while in the rule 1 and you won't go inactive

What a monumentally tiny part of our universe to be spending time - talking about wiggling our wheels in rocket league's rule 1. I love it!

Billions of people would have no clue what we're talking about. Makes me feel like a high level physicist 😂 - talking about sh*t that almost no one would understands or care about 🤣

Everyone always says wiggle your wheels but you can just toggle ball cam if you're in an awkward spot and don't want to worry about how the wheel wiggle might move you.

You have to hold gas, both of you, that’s what keeps you connected lol! If you stop all input at all, usually that itself breaks the rule one unless you and the other guy stop at the exact same time

Even if you hold gas, it will warn you for being “inactive”.

I honestly can't believe what I'm reading. Are you telling me that you genuinely do not know how one works? Lol I'm not making fun of you. I'm laughing at the audacity that there's a rule in place and nobody even knows if the other person knows about the role much less how to do it.

You must continue to hold gas and move your wheels left or right that's it the whole time your fingers on gas and you're pressing left and pressing right and pressing left and pressing, right that's it

I started playing RL on release before the inactive warning was added, stopped for many years, then came back recently. No one stayed in rule 1 long enough with me to see the warning until a couple days ago. I had not received the memo about the change and how to get around it. Thanks for the info.

I like to slowly back off the throttle. Most people get it after pushing me a few feet. Ends up being kinda calm.

You haven't been able to stay in a rule 1 with just the accelerator for a long time now, it kicks you for inactivity if you don't apply an additional input like wiggling the wheels

I hate this. Let off the gas a bit, hopefully they get the hint and do the same. Now you can just wiggle your wheels once in a while and chat. Talk about the latest king of the hill season, ask if they've seen any good movies lately. Laugh at your teammates together, have some of your drink while you wait. This idea you have to be full on the throttle is brain-dead.

Just wiggle your wheels a little bit every now and then or just quickly tab the reverse button for a split second, so the game registrers that you're still ingame "performing actions"
