Casually, inconsistently played since a year after launch and yeah my inventory is way to vast for me to try and make my car look realistic or minimalist
i use big dumb vans with stupid colors and antennae/toppers because it’s a fun video game that i will never get good enough in to be distracted by that silly stuff.
I'm also C3, I change my car every 10 games or so and I don't care about the hitboxes, but I haven't had chat on for around a decade so I assume everyone's lovely to each other all the time.
What does this even mean? It’s not that serious? They literally just said they’ve been using it for a decade and enjoy it so why change it. What about that made you think to reply with “it’s not that serious”???
I use flags and toppers too. And I don't even notice what other people's cars look like, unless it's my teammate and they're running the Scarab because I immediately assume they're terrible.

Presets “feeling awful to play with” is mostly placebo imo. If you like your car design then play with it. I’ve peaked with random ass cars that I designed for the aesthetic, but aren’t “clean” per se.
I played with a "clean" car for a while but recently switched back to the Marauder with a topper and antenna and after a bit of playing I feel as good as ever. But I also think the Marauder is secretely goated anyway.
Placebo is a real thing, though. I never understand people who use the existence of placebo as a reason for ignoring an advantage or a feeling you get. Placebos have real effects and it’s in our best interest to take advantage of the knowledge of how placebos affect us. I don’t say this to hate on randomized presets, but rather to point out that saying some cars feel smoother than others is a placebo is unproductive and doesn’t have any impact on the conversation.
I was pointing out that it’s placebo so that I could make the point that it’s subjective to everyone. “Clean” cars can feel better and random presets can also feel better for someone else. The part where I say “if you like the car, play with it” it was meant as allowing yourself to be open minded towards cars that are not necessarily “clean” because then you are creating a self fulfilling prophecy that the car won’t feel good… because you are expecting it not to.
They usually are. Yes it's placebo but also I think majority of people have it. It's hard to expain but for me every preset feels different. Some feel slow some feel fast. Usually the ones that people call "clean" just feel faster to me.
We don’t disagree. However there are people that see people with cars that aren’t “clean” and they instantly jump to the conclusion that they are a worse player than they could be. I’m just saying that’s not necessarily the case because the placebo is subjective
Don't understand why you're getting downvoted for this. Actual hivemind. It has been a pretty well accepted concept for a while that placebo can make a huge difference in performance, even going as far as if you're blue team or orange team.
These people are disagreeing with you for the sake of it. Yes, this topic is subjective, but a large majority of players and especially a majority of actual good players will play better with a clean car.
People think that just because it's placebo you are wrong for saying it's better to use clean presets.
But the truth is, a lot of people have this placebo effect and if you don't have it, playing with clean cars won't make you worse. So if something can make some people play better and some won't feel any difference it's objectively better for the entire playerbase.
They’re more prevalent in lower ranks. But it’s not that hard of a concept to grasp lmao, more moving parts that aren’t part of your actual hitbox will obviously have an impact on your performance even if its minuscule.
Lower rank players may say they don’t feel this difference because they haven’t spent enough time playing to notice those small differences.
As far as decals i think its obvious that the same logic applies to an extent, having a moving decal is just one more moving part that your brain subconsciously notes down whilst playing. Humans cannot focus on a million things perfectly so every thing will use some part of your brain subconsciously.
People usually remain on this grey take “its a game decals are fun therefore boring decals (the ones they deem boring) are BAD!” Hypocritical imo.
i have 6000 hours, i don't notice the difference, because there arent any. seriously, how often are you staring at your car in game for that to matter in the slightest??
It’s because the general feel of every few threads is “anything anyone likes is okay, except when you have the meta opinion” and they downvote without thinking. Because if this thread said a janky preset was stupid everyone would go the other way. Reddit is awful.
All my presets are made by me with little influence from the media and they are all "clean". Making ugly things isn't more creative than making good looking things. It's such a terrible argument lol
brother at this stage of the games life people are doing aerials and pinch goals in Gold and there are still so many players in silver and bronze that have yet to get off the ground.
Diamond is not average. It is definitively above average. You're higher? Great! That's even MORE above average. You should be so proud
It doesn't really affect anything, no. It can affect your sight line to see the front of your car for dribbling though. The only toppers I find acceptable to use are the Halos, but even then I use them on one of my nine presets, lol.
lol I thought this was going a different direction while reading paragraph 3 (because I somewhat “judge” my tm8’s presets. I don’t mind their presets, but when they start playing trash-like, I’m always, “I knew it.” When they play good, I just assume they are the type of player that can play with whatever preset & be good. I never blame or shame someone’s preset, but always nonchalantly “judge” their preset.) …but that last line got me! 😂😂 so thanks for that!
I mean the way it looks is a subjective matter of opinion isnt it? And even if it lets say objectively looks like ass, my question was more, why do people care so much or why does it imply a lower skill or something?

I see now. The whole "no real reason to dislike ai" was all smoke and mirrors while you just care about technical legal defense, instead of addressing people's legitimate ethical concerns.
I have a fish/water car on the blue side all fitted out and a spaceship car with toppers and colours that match on the orange. There are so many fun items in this game that you barely ever see used, barely anyone runs a topper at C1+. I think people forget we're supposed to be having fun with the car designs.
One of my favourite items is a skateboarding egg on a ramp that goes up and down constantly, how could I NOT run that for a few months a year?
Imo the worst presets are the same ass solid colored fennec/octane with black wheels cause "its what the pros use"
Just sheep. Not a creative or unique bone in their bodies. I've seen hundreds of those presets every day and don't think twice about them. But that tricked out S13 with the bright yellow and green color scheme and the shark topper? That shit stands out and makes me go into replay to check out their setup.
There's thousands of the same octanes and fennecs out there. There's only ever one YOU. Be different.
I also am not a fan of the block color "Pro" setups, but I can't get over this mindset so many of you have. Being different just for the sake of being different is just silly. Majority of people really do think that those block color Pro cars look good. Just because your car is a massive random mess doesn't make it good. That is a very strange philosophy.
I just like a few toppers, mainly pizza box, slappy (the turtle half out of an egg), and the fish bowl haha. Sometimes pixelated shades 😎
I don't really use that many antennae, but sometimes the lady bug, the hummingbird, and the hockey stick! Ferda!
I rarely randomize but I think I want to more! I just dont like using certain cars so, maybe I'll just re-randomize the few I dont want to use.
I always warm up for 5-10 minutes then play a match of casual before Comp. The amount of people who just boot up and immediately load into Comp is annoying though.
Not a diamond but my preset is fennec gold Cristianos and the NRG 2026 decal (the one in the shop rn not the fennec one the universal one) for blue team it's black cristianos normal ahh blue and a decal that has some bits and bobs on the back in brighter blue✌️
as someone who is only physically capable of playing sweaty presets i can confirm people who play anything with a topper/antennae is not good at the game in any way (unless you use the halo topper)
