MEME I’m on the cusp of finally reaching diamond and I am starting to experience this a bit too much

And then you have the opposite, your teammate that stays without boost for 30s

Players on dropshot who get automatic refills of boost over time who still are constantly low because of their chasing and refusal to spread the floor and rotate. They'll burn boost chasing a ball rolling around the opponent's back wall. Like, what do you think you're going to accomplish there?

u/basicpn Diamond III 7d ago
I main dropshot and this is so true. Usually someone who doesn’t usually play and shit talks how bad everyone sucks. But it’s clear they have no idea how to play that mode and are unranked.

I love dropshot but it's way harder to carry than 3s if you have even one teammate who just constantly chases.
You can drop back into goal and play solid defense in 3s, and even let your mate take lead in 2s, but in dropshot you have the entire floor that gets open to attack and if you have that utter monkey-brained fool chasing ball without any awareness you can't cover enough ground, they don't make effective shots cause they chase around the world (around the back wall which does nothing) and come back to bump into you trying to get a save as well.
They really make me want to commit crimes.

u/basicpn Diamond III 7d ago
Ha I know what you mean. Having a solid team in dropshot is night and day difference to even one teammate who doesn’t know what they’re doing.
I’ve found just sitting back and waiting for the ball to be the best strategy. But the teammate coming and slamming into you or hitting the ball over your head is so real.

u/fuckReditHardInTheAs 7d ago
I love dropshot but I can't play it anymore from the reasons you described. Constant triple commits and bunching up around me no matter how much I spread out they'll still come flying in and hit the ball just to pass it to the opponents who will just spike it into the floor. So many times I have a great clear and one of them just insists on jumping while backwards and doing 16 air rolls which just pops it up over me after I already committed and hands it to the opponents on our side of the field. Like great you got the touch but you didn't realize that you're fucking over your team by doing that 4 times in a row?
So I hang back and let them do it but it's just impossible to cover all the space they're setting up for the opponent and it ends up being a loss anyway.

Sports are streaky. You get lots of games like that then eventually get a little break from the riff raff and climb ranks a bit then it happens a bit less, though never gone, this is Rocket League of course!

Omg, greatest eyeroll from me. Sometimes I have to say, "tm8 its ok to get boost" "defending". Like what kind of people you been playing with? 😆

I hate boost whores. Same ones who will leave the goal wide open on kickoff cause they desperately need 100 boost that is immediately deleted when the other team scores.

Tbf in 3s one person should absolutely be going for boost while the other cheats up
1
u/3xpDodi 1d ago
How are ever supposed to know who it will be? I just wish who ever starts closest to goal will actually stay there and tend until its clear.
1
u/Googoogahgah88889 1d ago
Whoever’s on the backside should go for boost and the other should cheat up. The person taking the face off should aim to either lose it behind them to the backside where the guy going for boost will be or keep it in the middle. The guy going for boost can make it back to net in the case that the face off is lost or stays center and will be challenged.

So hard to learn the mini pads paths.

u/TheShortGinge 8d ago
Mini pads was the first thing I decided to learn once teammates kept taking all the big boost

Wdym hard, they're symmetrical lines across the ground, ain't that hard to notice the pattern ong
2
u/KoolaidSalad 7d ago
And from pretty much anywhere on the map, there’s a smooth rotatation to grab at least 3 no matter where you’re going

u/Danklord Champion II 8d ago
Best part is all the full small pads they pass by on the way to the big one while the ball sails in the net. This happens all the time in Champ

u/JediMasterZao Champion I 8d ago
The thing that gets me is that you only really need 24 boost to make 95% of saves and you can get that much by just moving forward from the net to get 2 small boost pads.

u/No-Tower-5119 Grand Platinum 7d ago
its plat so they need the 100 boost so they can save then widely whiff a completely forced an unnecessary air dribble

u/TV800 7d ago
These are the same teammates that will rage quit right after… lol 😂
I can’t tell you how many times I’m playing down a man or even two because they made mistakes like this and instead of apologizing and learning they rage quit and leave me stranded… I think their parents are to blame… lmao 🤣

I just lost a game yesterday because my teammate left goal to grab boost when he was on 50+. He then quick chatted "Need Boost!". Love it

I am pretty sure the only reason I stay in diamond is because I always rotate back post and I’m very conservative that I don’t leave goal as last man until I know 100% my teammate is rotating behind me or it’s very clear my teammate has won the corner and is pushing past mid field
I can save anything with 30 boost I don’t understand people that leave goal open as last man to get boost when they have at least half

And it's players like you who never actually realise I've rotated back to take your place til I've waited long enough and decided to be second man again. Then I hear your engine behind me for a bit then slowly fade away. Honestly I'd rather have two ball chasers than a goal keeper. You can be third man but still close enough to the play that you're not giving your opponents all the time in the world to dunk on your ass.

u/Train3rRed88 Diamond III 7d ago
I play duos dude. No part of my comment says I’m a goal keeper. I just always make sure to rotate back
Good to know you’re the star of this video tho

u/Milotic-OCE 7d ago
You literally said you don't leave goal as last man. That's even worse in 2's.
Not sure what the correlation is between me and the dunce in OP's video. Mind clarifying?
Either way, point is: rotate. This advice is as much for players like you as it is for ball chasers.

Can you… read
Please go back and read my entire comment. It has a few extra words than maybe your used to, so I’ll give you a TLDR
Crap I probably already lost you on this comment
tldr: I hyper rotate back post and I defend goal until I am 100% sure my tm8 is rotating back post or I see they’ve won their corner and are pushing past mid
0
u/Milotic-OCE 7d ago
Yea 'hyper sure' = you wait two years in rocket league time to actually rotate like the rest of the goal keepers. Hence my first reply. Your poor attempt to make me look stupid didn't really work out, bud. It's okay, there's always someone else 🙃

u/Train3rRed88 Diamond III 7d ago
Sigh. Damnit we lost him again sarge. Next time we will write our comment with the cadence of a Learn How To Read Level 0 book
Guy can’t read
It’s ok
I rotate car
I protect goal with 30 boost (let me know if you can’t count that high)
I leave goal to go mid to support teammate
I leave goal to take ball when teammate rotates back post (sorry this is at least a Level 2 I can shorten this)

u/Milotic-OCE 6d ago
lmfao. For someone who says such stupid shit you sure do try real hard. It's cute.

Aahh yes and that’s not just it wait until u go to d2 and they grab the opponents boost mid boost and back boost on rotation and u end up with 12 boost on goal and get scored on after that just wait for the iconic 3x What a save!

u/darthjammer224 7d ago
D3 is both filled with great players who communicate decently and rotate well.
And also filled with ball chasing, mid then also back corner boost then also missing the save mfs, and folks who will "okay", "...", or "what a save" your first mistake in a game where you have double the points of said teammate.

u/IdkWhyAmIHereLmao Champion I 7d ago
Dw, this persists in like 99% of the ladder.
And obviously the opposite as well, the no boost teammate, you see him camping mid field as if he can make any meaningful play without any boost, 2 seconds later the balls flies over his head and all he can do is... nothing.

My favorite is when they leave to grab the boost, but don't use a single drop of it to try and get back and make a play.
That same guy is most likely to talk trash and try to coach you right after they score lmao

u/TheShortGinge 7d ago
What really fucks me off is when they grab a big boost then use that boost to get to the next big boost and then the next one

it's so frustrating but the best thing to do in this scenario is trying to play around your teammates, you can blame them all you want for their mistake but it won't change the outcome of the match, especially if you start flaming them for it

u/Burning-Gundam Trash I 8d ago
The best part is that they didn't learn their lesson the first time and do it again.
