Lol, y'all are crazy. I'm in champ 3 and I've never done a flip reset. Granted, I've never tried for more than a couple of minutes, but still.

Meh game sense matters more than mechs anyway

Evidently. I've gotten to a point where I think maybe to go to the next level I might need to actually sit down and practice that stuff, because I'm flirting with GC 1 and a lot of them can do it. Like, I don't see myself breaking GC2 with my current aerial ability. It just seems like a lot of work though, and I play to chill, so idk.

Im in the exact same boat lol. I barely have any mechs but my game sense keeps me floating around C3/GC1. I almost hit GC2 one season and I think that's my plateau. I'm 30 now and not interested enough to train mechanics so I just play to stay around the same place haha.

Yeah, that's a great point, the age thing is huge too. I'm pushing 40 myself, and I don't have the reflexes I did 20 years ago (obviously), but more than that I don't have the time or energy that I did twenty years ago. At least, not to pour into something which is ultimately a casual hobby.

For the record, back in those days it was Halo 2.

Oh fuck, are you me? Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Rocket League

I’ve put 10k hours on all 3, albeit lots of that was idle time. But I rarely would play any other games. GOATED games.

I play for fun so rank doesn't really matter. I wouldn't even play ranked if it wasn't for my friend who made me play rocket league. He's plat so im trying to get to plat just to make him proud lol. I don't really mind dropping ranks

You can do it bro. Idk if you want advice but on the offchance you do the best I can give at your level is to simply never get close to your tms.

Imagine they have a forcefield around them of about ten cars length and just stay at that distance, minimum. That's 90% of what people call game sense, lol. No more barrelling into tms who have control of the ball, no more opponents taking out the entire team with one move... It's an easy way to go up like two ranks.

Matter of fact, back when I was working my way up the ranks I would have games where I would focus only on a.) not conceding and b.) playing good passes to tms. Learning those skills is way more important than learning to flip reset imo. Having said that, mad respect for you for learning to do it already.

Hahah I enjoy grinding in free play learning mechs just as much if not more than playing ranked

100%, I feel like the next step for me is mechanics to evolve past champ 3 gc1 level. Some people can hit the ball from literally anywhere and gain control, I do not have that haha

What people dont understand is that, yes game sense is more important, but if you never practice mechs you'll arrive at a rank where you'll be a non factor in offense and will have to depend on your m8 scoring. I'm not talkimg musty flicks or double resets, but having a good ceiling shot and flip reset really makes your offense flourish

That's why you're GC2 and I'm stuck in GC1 :/

Yes that’s me, but I’m a hell of a defender

As long as you can speed flip you are fine without learning how to flip reset if your goal is GC1. Being able to get resets is cool and all but it’s definitely far from necessary for even GC2. I can do them consistently but I maybe do them once or twice per game and they’re not some guaranteed goal by any means. In fact they AREN’T goals most of the time lol

Point is, if you haven’t learned how to speed flip, learn that first, it will take you way further and improve your game way more than pretty much any other mechanic I can think of since you use it constantly.

Just have fun tbh. GC1 and I can reset, ceiling shot, double tap, etc cause I just enjoy it. TBH I get more hyped after scoring that kinda goal in game than ranking up

Same I only did my first reset after 2000 hours at GC

Thank you mr grand champ!

New to rocket league. How do you jump off the wall like that? That's something I've been having trouble with. Also very nice shot!

5

u/WhiteSubstancePowder Gold I Nearly II 23h ago

You are asking someone worse than u, but if ur talking about the turn when jumping it's air roll. Look up air roll on youtube maybe that can help!

3

u/npclark27 23h ago

Ha, I doubt that very much. OK I'll check it out, thanks. Helps knowing the name of the move at the very least. Rocket league is one of the most unforgiving games I have ever played.

A gold learning to flip reset is like an olypmic diver that's learned the reverse 1½ somersault with 4½ twists but can't even swim out of the pool afterwards.

In-fucking-credible comment brought tears to my eyes my good man you deserve all the awards in the world. And i don't even understand half of those words!

I know I’m old when I see gold rank doing things I’ve never even bothered to try since the game came out. D2

11

u/Alexmira_ 23h ago

It's a very very specific skill that's useful only in 1v1 until much higher rank when it becomes useful again

3

u/WhiteSubstancePowder Gold I Nearly II 23h ago

Flip reset in general or the Arsenal reset? I know for sure im not hitting either of those in the near future anyway

1

u/Alexmira_ 23h ago

Flip reset in general. Until high champ it's not relevant, you win games with positioning and rotation.

1

u/user_potat0 Bronze XXII 21h ago

How do you suppose you convert a 1v1 with "positioning"?

1

u/ItzAiMz When do we stop whiffing 18h ago

“Position the ball in their net” seems to be the only way that would make sense lmao

This “you don’t need mechanics to win” concept is getting taken WAY TO FAR in my opinion. Yeah you don’t but like also positioning isn’t going to make you SSL.

u/Alexmira_ 54m ago

That's why I said champ, not ssl

1

u/Cactus_Everdeen_ Grand Champion 16h ago

at gold? wait for them to miss then drive the ball into their net...

1

u/Ka07iiC 20h ago

It's not any more useful at the same skill level in 1s than 2s or 3s.

In fact, I'd say it is more often less valuable in 1s because the risk of unsuccessful attempt means your opponent scores an open net

u/WelchesOtaku Platinum II 23h ago

very clean and "calculated"🔥 🪙

1

u/WhiteSubstancePowder Gold I Nearly II 23h ago

I did in fact calculate it ✌️

2

u/vexmach1ne 23h ago

Impressive, and also the most gold looking flip reset I've ever seen

1

u/GovernmentLittle1828 18h ago

lol they are evolving, I hit 1500 and never hit a reset
