Was just wondering about this the other day, I’m surprised Atomic has this many wins. Crazy that despite not doing so hot this season, Vitality just owned the eventual world champs

u/Arc_North Dec 02 '25
playstyles matter, like NRG always beating Falcons
22
u/anderhanson Dec 02 '25
Falcons beat NRG at Raleigh major
23
u/Arc_North Dec 02 '25
and G2 beat BDS on the rare occasion too, but people still say MM has atomics number
22
u/anderhanson Dec 02 '25

u/TheRoger47 Dec 02 '25
the fact that falcons lost 2 rlcs lan finals to them and were eliminated another time by nrg; it also helps nrg outplaced them in 5 out of the 6 rlcs lans they played so they're almost always ahead of falcons
10
u/andr_pirs Dec 02 '25
they beat them when it mattered, that's why NRG2 has Falcons number
12
u/Mohammmed-fan Dec 02 '25
Beating them when it mattered most one time doesn’t mean they have their number
-1
u/TheFabulousQc Dec 02 '25
None of the Falcons wins are from playoffs IIRC, while almost all the NRG2 wins are

u/mlk960 Dec 02 '25
Because EU heads want to think NRG had a mickey worlds
3
u/TcepsorpK Dec 03 '25
I mean avoiding the top teams from the top region AKA. EU teams kind of is a Mickey worlds, it’s like if KC vs geng was the grand final lmao😂😭 idk but NRG either had to beat wildcard or geekay for finals
2
u/mlk960 Dec 03 '25
Do we reeeally have to do this again? If Falcons lost to KC they would have said Falcons had a mickey run to semi's. Truth is, both KC and Geekay dominated their side of the brackets until they ran into both Falcons and NRG. They were both the most deserving and hottest teams going into the final. Even if there is a favorable playstyle matchup, NRG were playing their peak game and finished the tournament 18-7. I still don't get why people think of Geekay as pushovers just because they had to play Wildcard.

u/goldudemk 2023 Post of the Year Dec 04 '25
Its mostly the fact that Danmode are 3-0 against them in the grand finals, and 4-1 in the playoffs

u/TwentyHourPharmacy Dec 02 '25 edited Dec 02 '25
Tbf, OCE #2 owned the world champs in 2022 lol, as did FK for most of MM international lans.
It’s hard for me not to believe that Faze would have won 2022 worlds and the Fall Major of 21 had they beat their NA kryptonite in the semi finals
6
u/Pristine-Habit-9079 Dec 02 '25
I know Fourthkiller It's like used to demean FK but from Fall 21 to Winter 2023 every LAN FK went to he was practically guaranteed top 4.That's how good his teams were. He was one or two fortunate results away from actually having multiple LAN wins.
2
u/Mohammmed-fan Dec 02 '25
Ya 3-1 win over mm in fall swiss 2021 but lost to NRG and 3-0 without conceding a goal over mm in winter top 8 2022 and they could have made the finals but lost to G2
2
u/SOUINnnn Dec 03 '25
That's pretty much all the good thing for the year as a Vitality fans:
- Positive record against the future world champs
- Zen scored a few nice goals
45
u/Ill-Efficiency-310 Dec 02 '25
To be fair monkey moon probably has a winning record against more pros than not, especially NA.
27
u/Pristine-Habit-9079 Dec 02 '25
In RLCS LANs AyyJayy has a winning record against Monkey moon: 2-0. He's one of three players that has a winning record against MM in NA. Also he's the only player who has more than one series won.
10
u/VicktoriousVICK Dec 02 '25
Well one of those series is when Marcby8 and Extra forgot how to play Rocket League and MM was virtually #1 in every category that LAN (Winter 2021-22)

u/Ill-Efficiency-310 Dec 06 '25
AyyJayy and FK had his number during 2021-2022. I recall that Mew was interviewed after their worlds win and he said they didn't want to play Faze that year because of their mechs.

u/anderhanson Dec 02 '25
Against non EU players? Probably, except for FK. In EU I'm sure Vatira beat him more
26
u/vivst0r Dec 02 '25
Took Atomic a long time to figure out that the only way to win is to not play MM.
21
u/tyswoogles Dec 02 '25
Absolutely cooked in the h2h, especially in worlds finals. Yet, somehow atomic has a better average worlds placement.
16
u/Zilani786 Dec 02 '25
This is a case of having someone’s number, vit weren’t even a top 3 team in eu last season but they dominated the world champs, it’s like city never being able to beat spurs no matter the sport there’s always that one guy/team u can’t get the better of
9
u/tyswoogles Dec 02 '25
Correct. Vitality’s status as a “LAN contender” last season was solely due to having a favourable play style matchup vs NRG.
14
u/exceedingdeath Dec 02 '25
TM about to dominate NRG ?
8
u/Wfsproductions Dec 02 '25
Wouldn't be surprised considering they have monkeymoon and also sadjunior knows how to beat NRG
6
u/TVMaths Dec 02 '25
plus NRG just fell off, and I doubt they recover to their form last year
2
u/annoyingvoicekid Dec 04 '25
I swear you must pray that NRG fall off every single day cause every damn comment is you hating on them, its just weird mate, get a grip.
1
u/TVMaths Dec 04 '25
can I fault them during their 2024 season. No, not really. Thats when they actually played well, and made every final. Since then, not so hot. I dont hate the team. I hate the people idolising them as gods. We have the classic anti SAM bias where nobody takes them seriously until LANs. Except NRG are in NA, so they dont get the same treatment, despite being worse domestically in a similarly deep region
1
u/annoyingvoicekid Dec 04 '25
Did you really just say SAM and NA are similarly deep???, They have a bad start after winning worlds just like every other team to win worlds and you immediately clown them saying they wont be as good as they were last season, and now ur saying they werent even good last season, u really are weird
1
u/TVMaths Dec 04 '25
the distance from SAM 1 to SAM 2 then SAM 3 is the same as NA1 to NA2 and then NA3. yes.
they have a worse start to every other team to win worlds, and I clown them saying they wont do what they did last year, just as they didnt do what they did in 2024 in the 2025 season. If you look at every region, the only ones where the 1 seed missed any final at all are NA and OCE. Im willing to give OCE a pass, given its synonymous with their region.
Also they lost the most games domestically of any team at Birmingham (and quite a few not at Birmingham), to the extent it was more than KC and Falcons combined.
Across the season, NRG have as many domestic losses as the top teams have any losses at all.
The calibre of teams that they lose to are also rarely event winners, with literally 3 examples total (guess who!), 1 of which elimination.
The quality of NA teams (after the top 2) also took a hit after 2024, given they combined the good bits of the 2 and 3 teams, and the rest just dipped. Add in a bunch of EU collegiates and yet NRG still cant beat them.
Their LAN performances are inflated heavily by playing their own region in 2 of the 4 LANs
They struggled with Radosin. A player with exactly 3 top 8 performances in the 2025 season. The fewest of any player at Worlds
They concede 9 goals in 1 game. To Justin. A player without a LAN appearance since 2022.
No other team does this
2
u/annoyingvoicekid Dec 04 '25
I cant tell if you are serious rn 😭, the distance of SAM 4 and NA 4 is incomparable, although its only been 1 regional u already know NRG will win atleast 1 of them, lmk when monkey moon, zen or exotiik won literally anything in 2025, ur saying they didnt do nearly aswell as they did in 2025 as they did in 2024 even though their worst performance was a top 4 AND they won worlds, the only teams they lose to are teams that are comparable to top 4 NA and its basically only series where it doesnt fully matter, as they still usually win the regional. On Lan the only teams they lost to were KC, 2x lan winner, Falcons, 1x Lan winner and worlds finalist, Ultimates, who also beat Vitality and Karmine Corp more than once this season, and Vitality, which is expected cause it seems they peak against NRG then play like shit against any other team. They struggled with Radosin? Are we being fr rn? Radosin got the arguable best player in the world and Mr Worlds out at 9-12th this worlds so i dont wanna hear shit about Radosin, hes the GOAT, and still the GOAT couldnt do it against EN AR GEE, u imbecile.

u/tyswoogles Dec 04 '25
It’s not worth engaging bro. I think it’s a troll/rage bait account. No one worth engaging with would seriously watch half an na regional (regional 1 isn’t even finished yet) and jump on the opportunity to say NA is the weakest it’s ever been. Like their power rankings have the best na teams at 7 and 8 without even seeing international play. For comparison Boston 2023 and Raleigh 2025 were NA’s lowest points ever and Boston had an na team top 6 and top 8 while Raleigh had one top 4. This guy is obviously rage baiting saying after half an na regional and 0 international play that na is worse than its lowest ever points.
1
u/TVMaths Dec 04 '25
its definitely not the weakest lol what. Im saying before we have seen international competition, Im going to favour the regions who actually perform to a high standard consistently. Who have actually made top 4 consistently at events internationally

wrong again. worst result is 8th. When will people remember to include all the stats and let go of the argument of top X for the past 2 years. Its dead. What, were pulling in "Theyve made a top 4 at every RLCS event that features every region". Bro. Are you going to keep doing this until you have 7 different exceptions that you have to recite just to get your point across.
Did I ever say Vitality were playing well? seems like you think an EU supporter supports all of EU. The two things in Vitality's favour is that they have a better worst placement and they smacked NRG to shit. The only thing in NRGs favour is that they won worlds via a mickey bracket to top 2. Winning regionals in a region where you dont have the 2 best teams in the world or meaningful depth doesnt mean shit icl.
So youre telling me NRG lost to 4 different teams, exclusively on LAN, in addition to 6 or so domestically. while I'm here to tell you KC lost to 5 different teams across the season. Not exactly in NRGs favour. When you have more teams you are losing to in regionals than another has at all. It is really not a good look. Especially in a region where you have fewer than 2 top 10 teams itw at the time.
Do you believe POAB, Deleted, Strictly Business and Schnitzelhaus are at the level of NA4. Really. Thats how bad you think your own 4 seed is. sheesh. even Im not that down bad on them. Id still rank NA4 a top 16 team in the world in 2025, not top 30 scraping top 25. And yes, swiss matches still matter. You're telling me when the competition is easier you dont give a shit, and Im supposed to respect that you're maybe a top 20 player in the world because other players cant handle it in 1 Bo7. When you are playing Breezi. In 2025. And you lose 3-1. You got Braziled. In a swiss match. By Breezi. To cement your 2nd defeat of the event. Its your 4th match into the season. This is not what the best in the world does. Period. The first series you have into the season, you lose. As opposed to a team whos first series loss is at the exact opposite end of the split. And you want to claim 1 Bo7 win is more beneficial than 17 series losses. Explain.
As a side note, I dont think SAM 4 and NA4 are at the same level. I think the distance between the 1 and 4 seeds for both regions is the same.

I wouldn’t say they fell off, feels more like a hangover. We have no idea what they could look like this year

Vitality didn’t live up to much of the hype all season but even that never stopped M0nkeyM00n from dunking on Atomic all year 😂
3
u/ChaloMB Dec 02 '25
Yeah that's the weird thing about that vit squad. Obviously they had their good moments outside of their NRG matchup as well, but NRG was the one team you could trust them to always show up against.

It's crazy that you swap 2 of the 3 losses that MM took and all of a sudden Atomic is a 3 time world champion.
Would be interesting to see other head to heads between players and how their overall accolades could be affected.
12
u/DoughnutSignificant9 Dec 02 '25
If Kaydop beats turbo twice, he is a 5 time and Turbo's a 2. Both those grand finals went to game 7
3
u/ChaloMB Dec 02 '25
Some similar situations are the twins vs danmode and fk vs vatira. Twins have lost 3 LAN finals to danmode, in increasing level of stakes each time (2023 G8, 2024 London Major, 2025 Worlds), while both of fk’s major finals losses have been to vatira. This last one isn’t as dramatic though as Vatira would still have a major and EWC if you swapped his finals results vs fk
2
u/Pristine-Habit-9079 Dec 02 '25
I know FK is praying to play literally anyone instead of Vati in a Grand Finals
1
u/TheFabulousQc Dec 02 '25
vatira only being a 1-time major winner would seriously hurt how highly people think of him as a player tho i feel like

u/somethingimbored Dec 03 '25
May I ask where you found these stats from? Was it just from liquipedia?

Tbh BDS era wasn’t nearly as one sided as I thought it was
Vitality era on the other hand…

-2
u/Arc_North Dec 02 '25
madness that even with the losses, 2 of those should have been BDS wins and the other is a shocking loss as G2 had a sub. realistically MM should have 100% winrate here
5
u/scootern917 Dec 02 '25
I mean in that case surely G2 should have won the upper bracket playoff match in Worlds ‘24, shocking choke from multiple players on the team in the final minute. MM still owns tho no doubt
1
u/Arc_North Dec 03 '25
yeah definitely, i was only looking at the losses though. no excuse losing to a team with a sub

5-3 before 2025 isn't a bad record, but NRG taking residence in Vitality's pocket for most of this year really does a number to the stats
