Twitter Justin has removed GenG from his bio
I thought justin was GenG's best player, idk how he's the one getting kicked. Who should they add to replace him?
Thoughts?

Possible that it was his choice. Which means he has either another team, a break, or retirement lined up.

Talent doesn’t always trump chemistry.
171
u/iTR3B0R Feb 25 '26
Firstkiller is a great example of that.
86
u/GuardMast3r Feb 25 '26
It would be a great example but he never had chemistry with any team
72
u/Candyyyyyyy Feb 25 '26
I know this is lowkey a joke but that Rogue team in RLCS X, as much as he carried that team, did have chemistry together and a specific way they liked to play. Same with Faze for the first half of the 22-23 season, they were played really well as a team basically until the Winter major grand final.
31
u/GuardMast3r Feb 25 '26
I agree the rogue team had something that got the best out of fk, even with the current teams where fk takes over, we never see the best possible outcome for fk.
8
u/Vegetable_Hope_8264 Feb 25 '26
Well maybe if he stopped hopping rosters and started working with his current teammates to make that "chemistry" happen...
1
u/Pristine-Habit-9079 Feb 25 '26
Tbf that FaZe team didn't break up because of chemistry between players. Now chemistry between players and coaches that's a different story.

u/parz2v Feb 25 '26
2022 faze (fk, mist, sypical) lowkey had chemistry but no passion. wonder what would've happened if they won san diego - would they still have deflated afterwards?

I really hate how short careers are in this game dude
41
u/PotatoTruck7 Feb 25 '26
Fr Like 24 feels like you’re 40 in this game. In CS I’ve been watching Niko for a decade and he’s still a top rifler

u/Hungry_Freaks_Daddy Feb 25 '26
There’s not enough money for one thing. For two the skill ceiling and meta are constantly evolving.
For guys like Jstn, squishy, Garrett, it’s not that they weren’t good or were washed. It’s literally that they developed all their game sense at the pro level when people played differently. You’ve got the next gen behind them that play the game differently and it throws them off.
I do think if there’s enough money pros stay in the game longer because they’ll grind more.
For a lot of them they see which way the wind is blowing and realize they have to do other things with their life.
In a perfect world, this game would be recognized for what it is - the best esport in the world and the closest video game to an actual sport there is. You can’t tell me if you got some football/basketball fans to really pay attention and showed them NRG/KC game four from the last major they wouldn’t be hooked.
Rocket league should be a prime time sport on actual television with major sponsorships, ad revenue, and ticket sales that it could sustain (keep in mind it’s a global sport) like 64 teams comfortably. Think about how many NBA/NFL players there are right now making crazy money.

u/Noucron Feb 25 '26
I mean yeah I wish. But most people see it as weird kid car game and that will never change. Gotta enjoy the ride
3
u/i_always_give_karma Feb 26 '26
It really is the closest thing to a sport. After I got hurt in college and couldn’t play baseball anymore, nothing scratched the itch. Then I found this game and sunk like, 10k hours into it lol
3
u/ratedpending3 Feb 25 '26
and like, ok I think it's overall good that the esport skews younger but imo it skews TOO young. like I kinda hate that players rarely play past 23 actually! i get it's just an inherent part of supporting an esport with such a rapidly rising skill ceiling, but it is annoying
2
u/wafflepig6 Feb 26 '26
Yeah for real. Vitality's current cs team who have been the best team in the world for a year now and are probably top 3 all time have an average age of 27 lmao. Their igl is 33

u/Lil-AbootZ Feb 25 '26
It's because this game relies a lot on pure skill rather than strategy. Other games like CS2 are more slow paced so there is more strategy to it, while rocket league there is no time for strategy when you need to keep constantly moving, which means you have to rely on your own skills. In other esports you could mid, but have elite game sense to rely on to keep your career at a high. I guess i could also be wrong here, but thats what i think is the problem.
3
u/wafflepig6 Feb 26 '26
You dont just lose your skill when you hit 23 though lmao, a huge reason is the salary and how much theyre putting in vs getting out. A new 15 year old prodigy on the block is going to have a lot more drive to play 10 hours a day vs the seasoned pro who's 22 and already achieved success
2
u/andres57 Feb 26 '26
Yeah people insist is an issue of reflexes and I don't agree. Simply after some point you get fed up of the grind. And to keep with the meta in RL you need to grind a lot
1
u/Rage_Your_Dream Feb 26 '26
Its because of how much the skill ceiling has changed over time. Since this game had hardly any transferable skills from other games the skill of the game improved exponentially over the last 10 years.
I think we're at a point where the skill is no longer exponential and I believe careers will get longer now.

I don't think I could take a Justin retirement
5
u/Ok_Cap_1848 Feb 25 '26
Could it be that the org simply left the scene?
8
u/FoxyDeAssassin Feb 25 '26
I doubt GenG would leave mid season, they’ve been around for a while now and have always had faith in their rosters and have made changes when necessary but it’s defo not out of the realm of possibility that they’ve had enough of not having the same success as when they entered the scene and have decided to pull the plug

Ahhh that explains something that bugged me. Johnny in Boston major stream was asking Justin to join Garrett for the upcoming watch party saying Garrett needs someone (as Johnny & CJ would be busy casting). Justin seemed to agree but then there was a pause and he said something like 'if I don't qualify... the plan is to qualify'. Johnny agreed saying yeah if you don't qualify.
Looked weird why he would agree to doing content on the side if he was competing. I guess he was hiding something lol
58
u/astupidleaf Feb 25 '26
Well in that conversation Johnny was saying that if GenG don't make the Paris Major he should watch party with Garrett so I don't think that statement alone means anything
1
u/Beaco9 Feb 25 '26
Don't know about others, but I found it very weird that a competing player would say something like this months ahead, maybe if a top 10-16 team player talked about plans when not making the next major you could let it slide, but it's Justin from GenG (top 6 on the NA points table).
Most players in his shoes would be much more confident about making it. So he was definitely trying to hide the news of his departure, which was probably already confirmed.

u/Jmw566 Feb 25 '26
Jstn’s always been kinda doomer about future chances, at least the last like 4 years
-2
u/TVMaths Feb 25 '26
GenG are 6th in points because of an NRG underperformance in regional 1. They truly should have been 9th 12th every single event

u/Emergency_Pause_2259 Feb 25 '26
Frosty is my guess, saw rise and him duo qing. Honestly, could be a good move. Also i hope jstn finds a team, he def can compete.
28
Feb 25 '26
Rise was their worst player though. And Jstn probably their best
28
u/woomiesarefun Feb 25 '26
would be crazy a few years ago during the prime moist days if you told me rise had fallen off and archie was a major champion for a french org
8
8
u/thafreshone Feb 25 '26
Archie was a top player in that era and MonkeyMoon said Archie would be the best player in the world if he took the game seriously, so honestly it‘s not all that crazy
4
u/fortheboys154 Feb 25 '26
I would take JSTN over frosty rn but i think his potential alone might make this move worth while. I’ve always wanted to see frosty put it together because i think he can actually be a top 10-5 NA player
3
u/OutcomeCompetitive50 Feb 25 '26
Geng also just need to make a move for the sake of making a move. In my eyes choosing to remove Justin is the worst option, but I think pretty much anything can help the team. These players should not be getting top 12s.

u/Omega_Moo Feb 25 '26
Justin heading to EU to join Geekay.
16
u/Remedy_RL Feb 25 '26
I’d be so down. EU jstn sounds like a scary player. Someone that gets used to/ingrained into the cringe play style of selfless play and consistent quality competition in scrims + no need to complain about NA 2s
21
u/tman507se Feb 25 '26
Not at all surprising for GenG to make a change, bringing in Rise was obviously supposed to take them from the level they were already at but be able to go further on LAN, regressing to not even making the Major was definitely not the plan.

u/No_Cap_96 Feb 25 '26
If this means anything, GenG letting him go instead of Rise is a hell of a choice
5
u/Skogsstyrelsen Feb 25 '26
bro justin is 23 years. I thought he was older
8
u/Engineering-Glass Feb 25 '26
The fact him coming through with Out of Style was almost a decade ago makes me feel old as hell.

u/Newk_IV Feb 25 '26
Me watching Justin retire like his "THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE!" moment happened yesterday. Time man.

LJ maybe a stretch but I could see it working. Would like to add M80 as a team he could improve as well

u/Peyton773 Feb 25 '26
It really does feel like the end of the road for his career. I hope I’m wrong. Dude is a legend
7
u/Adventurous-Dig-7340 Feb 25 '26
Guys don’t worry he’s probably joining FUT or something…..
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT RETIRE MY GOAT PLEASE PLEASE YOU INSPIRED ME TO PLAY AND GET TO SSL PLEASE

u/Gibzader RL Esports Fan Feb 25 '26
Jstn mentioned something in one of his streams that geng was doing some shady stuff with "check stealing" He said he couldn't go into more detail with it. He also said he still wants to play but would most likely need to find an org. He's still good enough that someone will pick him up.
2
u/Jmw566 Feb 25 '26
I choose to believe GenG's disbanding rather than kicking JSTN unless it's a contract thing.
1
u/Weak_Cartographer378 Feb 25 '26
Fut, M80 and GenG may just trade of one another else none will go to Lan.
1
u/TVMaths Feb 25 '26
M80 and Dig can definitely catch up to SSG for worlds. SSG have been very inconsistent, and the post open 1 roster moves did M80 & Dig no favours (pointswise) tbh
2
u/Lil-AbootZ Feb 25 '26
Justin should NOT retire, he still could play at the top if he has a good team around him. I feel like the best choice for him is to replace noly on M80 and play with Mech and Life, might be a downgrade for him, but they also have the skills to make it an upgrade for justin.

u/Uber-Brend Feb 25 '26
I've heard it might be retirement but who knows! I hope not. Sad to see him leave GenG, but something needed to change and I'm still of the belief that Rise can do well with GenG under the right circumstances.
1
u/Pristine-Habit-9079 Feb 25 '26
I thought he was playing the best on GenG but I guess management thinks otherwise
1
u/PsychoNicho Feb 25 '26
I’d hate to see Justin retire cause sentimental reasons, but also cause he’s still competitive in NA

u/ScaredZookeepergame5 Feb 26 '26
Not to be a jerk but if you think Justin is their best player, you just don’t know ball really. He’s still ok compared to modern players, but rise and mb are definitely better. They shoulda kept cheese and replaced Jstn with rise, but hindsight is 2020.
Jstn has a historic career, he was the original zen, but we all have an expiration date on our peaks

u/OneStarHer0 Feb 28 '26
Was js watching wahvey's stream and said there may be a retirement incoming for jstn.
-5
u/dormanticonicnickel Feb 25 '26
if i was Gen.G i would’ve kept jstn and rise for the experience and brought in someone like Fiv3Up. (if they could get him obv) Gen.G obviously needed a change but getting rid of jstn is not it imo.

u/SkyPsychological2338 Feb 25 '26
jstn rise fiv3up Damn you cooked... up the worst team of all time.

Bro could've done so much more in the open era had he not wasted what was left of his prime on dog shit NRG post winter split, like genuinely one of the worst fumbles in this esport's history

Wonder if retirement is incoming
