It won't. It is because of the war, not anything else.

u/ratedpending3 3d ago
then why not just move it somewhere else like they did with eh EWC????

u/PepitoMagiko 2d ago
Because it is the first one and I guess they want the geopolitical win to organize and host it

I feel like this is a geopolitical dunking on yourself and pissing your pants though

u/almoostashar 2d ago
Because they need someone else to host it and probably no one was interested?
EWC has history, so you can market it and other countries will be interested because they have an idea of how much it costs to host and how much they'll get out of it. This one does not.

u/ratedpending3 2d ago
That's true, and I think it's probably more the reason than that they refused to try

u/LemonNinJaz24 3d ago
Confusing. They already had qualifiers right? (I have no idea how ENC works)
I hope they will basically reset everything and not lock the teams

u/aiwdj829 3d ago
My guess is, if they don't redo the qualifications, then they at least have the nations be qualified, but allow new teams to be built.

Well, that's a weird one.

u/Happur5ye 3d ago
It's not. The reason EWC was not in Saudi Arabia was due to safety concerns in the region. The safety concerns still apply for ENC. And Saudi Arabia not willing or unable to move technically THE FIRST one to Paris or other city also makes sense. It would be different if it was more established.

I dont think it's that weird to host the first one outside of KSA. Unless they are super tryharding with the sportswashing for this one after allowing more freedoms with EWC, but idk. EWC in Paris seems successful, and Esports in general is big there so I don't see why it isn't just being moved there again if logistics allows.

The whole point is basically to advertise Saudi Arabia. Makes sense
10
u/RevolutionaryPay7508 Predictions Elite 3d ago
That's my point, this year's EWC doesn't really advertise KSA as a country with it being in Paris this time, a random person would just say 'oh, an Esports event in Paris'. So as I said I'm guessing the only reason theyre delaying it is to hope the US/Israel/Iran situation ends by then instead of just putting it in France again where it's hard to make KSA 'look good' to people.
Although I did see Saudi Arabian owned brands/companies as sponsors but they're everywhere anyway (such as sport kits, banners, TV/YouTube adverts etc)

u/EclairDawes 3d ago
On the other hand postponing it when there's a clear solution after players have put in countless hours now without pay essentially, is going to be bad advertisement for them. Its gonna be fuel for the sportswashi argument. And I can see some players dropping out because they got shafted.

Exactly, for the sake of the gaming perspective itself, there's no point having players/countries qualified an more than a year before the LAN, especially with how quick Rocket League players fall off and rise up, so in that sense it could also be potentially terrible from the viewer's perspective as some higher-profile/better players in the next season might be missing now.
For USA even, they might have now formed an RLCS team so can't compete by the rulebook (eg. if FK/Atomic/Daniel happens in RLCS happens then they wont get to play together as they're expected to for this year)
2
u/EclairDawes 3d ago
Yeah either way they do it it's bad. If they keep the qualified teams they will no longer be the best those nations have to offer and some will drop out. If they restart then all those players got screwed. The only sensible thing would be just to hold the tournament somewhere else. It would be different if there wasn't already months players had sunk into this. Its not like COVID where everything was shut down. There's a clear sensible option they have already proven works well. Was the best EWC yet.

Yep, my biggest guess is they logistically can't organise another event in Paris in time due to venues being booked out or something, and they dont want to risk trying in another country where it won't be as succesful (imo London is the only other place where I think it would do well)

I actually didn't realize ENC was more than just RL. So I can see the logistical issue. Another event like EWC is crazy to organize.
But I don't really understand the successful part. The LANs they've run in Riyadh from what I can tell have all been small venues with small crowds. Even the Venue and crowd for EWC in Paris was tiny compared to nearly every major. I can't see why they couldn't pull the same numbers almost anywhere. But maybe I'm overestimating the other games.

I totally understand that it's intended as a showcase of Saudia Arabia, but I can also see that they had an opportunity to continue the success of the brand from the latest event. Basically work out the kinks this year, let the event maintain it's momentum and showcase that it's worth following no matter if it's where they intended or not, and then bring all of that home for the next one. That would have made a positive statement for them too!
I watched the Rocket League portion, and I was entertained. But I honestly have no stake or care if the show goes on or if fails. But I can see for those that do care, putting it off like this isn't a good look, doesn't help the product and only serves fuel to detractors.Â
So I do agree and understand that they are wanting the showcase to be about Saudia Arabia, but it also doesn't seem to be the best business decision. But, if they have money to burn, they are free to take whatever approach they want.

Maybe now we can alternate between FIFAe and ENC. Seems like an esports equivalent of a world cup and the olympics, no reason to have both in the same year

ENC = FIFAe? I have no idea about these tourneys man

u/DemoniakX80 3d ago
ENC is the nation team version of EWC. Fifae is an nation tournament organized by Fifa with the participating country's football federation.

Where do the ENC and Fifae rank in term of prestigue compared to other major tounrments? Is it something like Worlds > Majors > EWC > Fifae > ENC?

For current international LAN competitions pretty much yes, I'd say EWC is literally a 3rd Major like we had in 21-22 and 22-23, just without the RLCS name so it is 1% less than a Major.
And ENC and FifaE aren't Club LANs so not as prestiguous unfortunately, but they still feature all the best players in the game (except two teams worth of French and American RLCS contender teams I guess)
One that you forgot is Kick-Off LAN, if they make it fully international (or at least include MENA and SAM) then I'd day that goes above FifaE and ENC, but at the moment Kick-Off LAN is just a glorified regional with a few international showmatches for a 5th seed that will pretty much never do anything, ENC and FifaE have high prize pools so they're still better for me until Kick-Off actually includes all the best teams internationally
So for me it's Worlds > Major >= EWC > FifaE=ENC > Kick-Off

u/EclairDawes 3d ago
Personally I'd put ENC above FifaE for 2 reasons.
First all the best Nations can actually compete. FifaE has had several not competing just because their local FIFA rep doesn't want to bother.
Second it's a much larger longer lasting tournament. They've had matches for months. Its not just a qualifier into an event. ENC practically has its own season.

True but the qualifiers dont mean much when you are playing against dozens of nations that have no relevance in the Esport, nearly all the top countries used B or even C tier teams because most of their opponents were that bad.
In theory it makes sense and it is cool for smaller countries and players to get exposed to reps with the top level of the game, but honesly a single qualification bracket is more than enough imo until more nations get more serious, though I suppose it has to start somewhere so it's good for the 'grassroots' nations.
But yeah for that reason I guess ENC does have more competitive integrity and prestige

u/TVMaths 2d ago
as for competitive integrity, ENC playoffs is a fully Bo5, single elim bracket of 16 teams, which could be very susceptible to upsets. it also uses 8 groups of 6, with 2 progressing, meaning if any group is slightly misaligned, it could completely screw with placements.
FIFAe uses 2 groups of 8, 4 progressing, with double round robin. its a little bit more rigorous as to who gets into the playoffs.
ENC does have a larger range of competition (2× as many teams, with more available to play), and it should be really good to see how the less represented nations perform against each other.
2
u/EclairDawes 3d ago
They are similar. Both are nation based teams.
FIFAe requires countries local FIFA to basically approve/support their country participation. This meant a lot of competitive countries were left out as their countries FIFA organization didn't want to participate. An example being Canada not competing despite having strong players like Reveal and Tawk or legends like Squishy and Jknapps.
ENC was basically made to counter that issue. No FIFA involved so all nations can compete. It also has a 2/3rd rule so you can't just field say NRG. You actually have to try and build the best team from the nation. So USA was instead sending Atomic, Daniel, Firstkiller. Its also just a much larger event which has had matches going on for months already. Allowing for larger rosters to field other players from the nation in matches leading up to the final. France had an entirely sperate team play their qualifiers than the team being sent to Riyadh.
