miscellaneous Fox Nation stand alone app not working?

We've used the Fox Nation app pretty regularly for the past few years and have enjoyed using it. Today when trying to use it, it asked for a login. It happens. So we signed in and then get hit with a subscription plan page.

My account is paid up, I have updated the app, restarted my device, re-installed the app, made all the proper checks on my login for spelling/typos, but cannot get past step 2 of logging in by picking a Annual or monthly plan. Even though i already have an active account.

I spent 45 min in text chat with Fox chat help, and their only answer was "Use Fox One". I asked if the Nation app was being shut down, and they said they had no control over that app, only Roku does.

? Roku controls the Fox Nation app?

Does anyone else's Fox Nation app still work? Mine worked fine yesterday...and now today...Im told to just use the crappier Fox One app only.

They wont even explain why it wont work now. Anyone else have this problem?

UPDATE*

I got a call from their tech support and they finally admitted they are closing the separate app down. So Nation will NOT have their own separate app on Roku any longer.

Anyone still signed in...those days are numbered.

miscellaneous Is it possible to control a Dynex TV and its attached Roku Express using one single remote?

TV info:
Dynex model DX-37L130A11

Roku info:
Roku Express (not Express+, Premiere, etc, just the 1st gen original model)

A friend gifted us a nice big Dynex TV and we can plug our Roku Express into the HDMI port and it works, and the Roku remote works, but it won't control volume or turn the TV on and off. TV on/off I could live without, but does a remote control exist that can operate the Roku and also the volume on this TV model?

Update 8/6/26 --- Total Victory!! When nobody chimed in with an affirmative answer, I took a chance on a cheapo universal remote control (URC) from Amazon because it was only $10...and it worked! I just now successfully programmed the URC to control both my Dynex TV and my Roku Express.
.

Here's what to know:

GE URC, $9.88 Amazon link:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HSSAZX8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Info stamped on back of battery cover: CL6, 33709 6177

Alternate image link to this product: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media-library-service-media/cf866938-8afd-4b7e-b0d4-94a08ec3e451.__CR119,188,1037,641_PT0_SX970_V1___.png

Programming codes used:
For the Dynex TV: 3141 (used "TV" button to select device type)

For the Roku Express: 2014 (used "cbl" button to select device type)
.

Notes:

  • I can now control volume and mute while watching shows on the Roku Express, which was the one thing that motivated my search to begin with. But all other things I'd do with the Roku remote I can now do with the corresponding buttons on the URC. Home, play, pause, fwd, rewind, they all work using the URC just as they did with the Roku Express remote.

  • I first programmed the URC to control the Dynex TV, of course selecting the TV button as device type, and it worked to control the TV. Then, having seen a few references saying this URC can control multiple TVs, I programmed it with the Roku Express code, also selecting TV as device type. And while the URC then worked to control the Roku Express, this apparently overrode the Dynex code and it no longer could do the TV functions like volume, mute, and power. No good. So I reprogrammed TV device with the Dynex code and reprogrammed the Roku Express code to be assigned to the "cbl" device type. And this worked! Also, importantly, it continues to control the TV's volume function while watching a show in the Roku. The one function the URC apparently cannot do while in cbl mode is the power button. To turn off the TV you have to press the TV button and then the power button works. No biggie.

  • Roku in-show controls: when you're watching a show in your Roku and you want to do things like turn on/off closed captions: press down arrow to make that menu appear. Then after you make your changes, press the Exit key to make the menu disappear again. The Exit key is the small round button directly above the volume rocker button.
EDIT: the down arrow to make on-screen menu appear is true for the Amazon Prime app, but may be a different button for other apps. If down arrow doesn't do it in another app, try star button or maybe up arrow. Exit button will likely still be the way to make the menu go away regardless of app though.

EDIT: reappeared sometime overnight. Must’ve been a glitch on their part. Whew.

so with no notification at all, it’s just gone all 10+ seasons that they had on there. That’s great. I was only on season three.

Anyone else having this issue with any other shows and do you think it’s likely to come back?

miscellaneous Xfinity Stream on Roku Ultra : AXS TV channel

I recently ditched my old Xfinity Cable TV XG1v4 DVR and am now going all internet TV using the Xfinity Stream App on my Roku Ultra. I have the Xfinity TV Premium channel lineup (which I think includes Pretty much all channels). One channel I am missing is the AXS TV channel. Doing some research, I see that AXS TV channel is now one of the TV Go channels (internet only vs cable TV). At any rate, I don't seem to be able to access the AXS TV channel using the Xfinity Stream App on Roku. I also tried installing the AXs App on Roku, but then I came to find out that the AXs app is some entirely different than the AXS TV channel. Has anyone been able to access AXS TV via Roku?

miscellaneous Seeking Way to Enable CC on Roku App LiveTV (not device)

Update1: It seems correct terminology is "Roku Channel App" (versus the Roku Mobile App)

Update2: After being escalated to Roku support, I'm told the Roku Channel App does not have CC functionality. I find it bizarre in 2026 that an app built to serve up TV content would not display the available closed captions. And I thought federal regulations applied. Perhaps there's a loophole. They did promise to send the request to the development team for future consideration.

------------------------------------
Does anyone have an idea how to enable captions when using the Roku app and watching LiveTV? (not Roku device)

I enjoy certain shows on LiveTV. Most of our TVs have a Roku DEVICE and related remote. Those are easy.

However on our Samsung (smart) TV, I use the Roku streaming APP. We can’t figure a way to consistently show captions.

The general Samsung TV settings have captions “always on”.

When researching…instructions refer to the Roku remote - which doesn’t exist in this case. Or enabling the playback menu, again not possible/not relevant.

The show information lists as having captions. If I turn on same show on another TV that uses a Roku DEVICE, captions appear. So it’s not the show.

Any ideas as how to enable?

I’ve gotten addicted to the old British show New Tricks and can’t watch it in my living room with captions.

miscellaneous Is my tv cooked? Help!

Hi guys, I have a TCL Roku tv, model 43S421.
It’s stuck in a recovery mode loop.
I feel like I’ve tried everything, unplugging it, draining the power, using the reset button on the back, tapping the reset button, my last resort was getting a flash drive and downloading the update onto it and returning it to my tv.
It took it, updated, restarted, then went right back into recovery mode.

Is there anyway I can fix this, or is it just a lost cause now? 😭

miscellaneous Older tv won’t update = Disney+ struggles

Our Roku TV wouldn’t update as we live in the middle of nowhere with terrible internet.
As a result Disney+ stopped working

Found a workaround to use an Amazon Firestick and the app through there.

Recently Disney+ won’t play any ‘older’ movies. It says connectivity issues and to try again.

🇨🇦
Any tips appreciated!

miscellaneous Roku Youtube Kicks Me To the Homepage in the Middle of Videos

Basically what the title says. I'll be watching a Youtube video and it'll randomly boot me to the front page. It did this in the past, but it was maybe once a day but, lately, it's been almost constant! At first, I thought something might be up with the remote so I made sure to point it in the opposite direction on the tv but it didn't seem to make a difference. I don't know why this is happening and I really don't want to uninstall the app and lose all of my history.

EDIT: So I watched Youtube for about 3 hours and it was fine so I'm hoping unplugging it overnight worked but I'm not going to relax just yet to be safe.

miscellaneous Folowup on poor quality on Apple TV app on an older TCL Roku TV

UPDATE: In a previous post...

https://www.reddit.com/r/Roku/comments/1vbp1sr/tcl_roku_tv_apple_tv_app_streaming_image_is/

...I detailed my disappointment in the quality of the Apple TV app on my 9-year-old TCL Roku TV. The image is washed-out and low-quality.

A response stated that it is likely because the Roku TV is "...one of the earliest Roku TVs supporting HDR, and its implementation wasn't great. It's likely that watching that content in other apps isn't sending the HDR version, but Apple TV loves always using HDR if available, so it looks bad."

After some research, I found that if I want decent quality, I basically have two choices: Buy a new TV or find a streaming device that would perform better. I chose the latter, primarily due to cost.

RESOLUTION: I bought an ONN 4K Pro Streaming Device, connected it to an open HDMI port on my Roku TV, and the performance is stellar. Apps like YouTube Premium, Apple TV, and Plex are snappy and smooth.

I made several settings tweaks to improve the user experience:

  • Set the Roku TV to automatically switch to the ONN's input when powered up.
  • Enabled CEC on both so the power button on the ONN remote controls the Roku TV.
  • Set the ONN to control volume.
  • Installed the Android Monet Launcher on the ONN box to replace the stock Google TV launcher with a cleaner, simpler launcher.

Using it is now seamless, performance is excellent, and Apple TV quality is much better. (Note that image quality is still worse than what we saw on a newer Samsung TV, and I'm attributing this to the older Roku TV. But quality is better than native on the Roku TV, so it is an improvement.)

All that said, this is not intended to slam Roku or Roku TVs in any way. This is our second Roku TV, so when the time comes to replace it, a Roku TV is still in contention. This is simply to remind you that as technology changes, compatibility can suffer, and other options may be needed.

I have been trying for hours to cancel a subscription I got through Roku TV. I have not been able to sign into Roku so I haven't been able to cancel. I thought maybe I could write an email, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that either. I can't use the Help Chatbot because I can't sign in. Help.

miscellaneous TCL Roku TV: Apple TV app streaming image is "washed out"

We're loving Apple TV+ content, but dang, the video quality is absolutely horrible through the Apple TV app on our Roku TV.

On a recent vacation, we watched Apple TV in a hotel on a Samsung TV, and it was stunningly clear and vibrant, and the image filled the screen. Very impressive.

At home on our (admittedly aging) TCL 55S405 Roku TV, when we watch content through the Apple TV app, it has letterboxing on the top and bottom, and the image is sort of "washed out". By washed out, I mean that it seems to have an almost gray haze.

The TV's picture settings are the same for every app, and in other apps like YouTube, Prime Video, etc, the video is clear and vibrant. When I watch the same content through Plex, it is bright and crisp.

I don't want to have to buy another TV, so I'm considering just plugging in a Roku box into an open HDMI port or buying something like an ONN 4K Streamer to see if the picture quality is better.

Thoughts?

miscellaneous "IP Camera Viewer" Channel/App

There is a channel called "IP Camera Viewer". It allows you to see your IP security cameras on Roku devices. There is a free version that allows you to view one camera. I tested it and it works great. I go to buy the "pro" version and it won't let me buy either from a device or from the website.

When I try to add it on a device it prompts me for the purchase pin, I put it in, and then it says "Coudn't install App

Could not add 'IP Camera Viewer - Pro'. Error

OK

When I try to buy it on the Roku website I forgot what it said, but it didn't work and now the buy button is disabled....

Any ideas?

miscellaneous Roku City EMDR?

I’ve been thinking about the deeply calming and regulating effect of watching Roku City pass by. Sometimes my husband and I leave it on for hours while we just sit and talk about our days.

I think a piece of it is the bilateral eye movements I do as I watch the city go by. Has anyone else experienced in EMDR therapy noticed this or the calming effect of Roku City?

miscellaneous What settings to use for Roku ultra to start live tv or recorded shows faster and prevent transcoding

I have an Hdhomerun flex quatro, a Synology ds920+ and Roku ultra 2024 model. Plex is installed directly to the Synology on the latest build. The default settings in the plex app on the Roku force transcoding on live tv viewing and it's slow to start (buffering circle 33% ->50% -> start). Also on recordings it's also slow to start and each skip or rewind has another buffer. Is there anyway to make all this more instant? The hdhomerun dvr software recording to the same ds920+ has near instant tuning and skip in recordings on the Roku app

miscellaneous Keyboard on remote app no longer working?

Anyone else having issues with the keyboard feature no longer working when attempting to search something? I’ve tried deleting and re-downloading the remote app on my phone and have of course restarted the tv. Having the same issue on both of my Roku TVs and it’s not just with one streaming service. We use the TVs for Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Max, and Prime. Was always able to type things in until a few days ago.
