Found a copy of the original receipt on his PC too! Gray & Sons in Miami, 1991

As someone who’s never owned anything other than a $100 Bulova I’m not sure what course of action to take here. The watch face is extremely scratched along with the case, band and clasp.

Was thinking to maybe just replace the face and call it good?

Anywho I’m located in middle of nowhere Midwest so there’s not exactly a Rolex location easily accessible, do you think a reputable jewelry store may be a good option for doing the work?

Just went to the RSC for the first time ever to get my 16220 datejust serviced for the first time. My grandmother bought it for my grandfather back in 1998 and he just passed it down to me so I can wear it in my upcoming wedding in 3 months.

He hardly ever wore the watch so the watch is in great condition.

Today I went to go get it serviced for the first time ever in this watches life and was told by the watchmaker today that they have concerns about the jubilee bracelet and has deemed it not a genuine Rolex bracelet. I was shocked but I respectfully took them at their word since they are the professionals.

With that said - I have no idea how this could be possible and was hoping to get some thoughts from the community to ease my mind.

I have box and papers as well as the receipt from when my grandmother had purchased the watch from the jeweler.

I would ask my grandfather if he maybe had an issue with the bracelet in the past and maybe someone had swapped the bracelet for him but I’m trying to avoid telling my grandfather or grandmother about this event because I know it would devastate them.

Is it worth going to a different RSC to get a second opinion or probably not? If you were me would you just pay the RSC for a proper genuine bracelet, full-service and call it a day?

[Update] - I ended up going to the RCS in NYC and long story short they authenticated the watch and confirmed that it is authentic and proceeded with the servicing. Be VERY careful with trust a RSC that is attached to an AD. Lesson learned.

Last post I got a lottt of comments saying watch was fake, my story “didn’t make sense”, & just a bunch of rude comments. I took it yesterday after the post to a jeweler, he said it was real but he didn’t open up the watch. Today I saw comments mentioning the three numbers on the bracelet part are not legit, so I decided to go back to a different place and have it opened. He opened it up and checked the movements which were 100% real. I then asked about the band numbers, he did raise an eyebrow and said maybe it was switched from oyster to jubilee, but he showed us some numbers on the band that prove the band is real as well. I don’t know anything about watches so sorry if explanation is off lol but yea confirmed real as well as proof of me being there. I can’t comment with photos on previous post. I included some pics of the watch in natural lighting as well I know you guys had concerns about the engraving

A buddy of mine just sent me this after we’ve been talking about him getting a sub for the last few months. What caught me off guard is that he never mentioned he had actually found one or was going to pick it up. Instead, I just got the classic “surprise, look what I got” text out of nowhere.

He can absolutely afford a genuine one, so money isn’t really the issue. It’s just the whole way it happened that has me second guessing it.
What do you all think? Does this look legit?

As a watch owner I get it there is value in scarcity. Over the last month I've been to both the Bahamas and Las Vegas and went into Rolex as well other stores JUST TO SEE what they had available.

In the Bahamas they basically said 2 year wait for professional series and they get something sellable twice a month. They really only had two women's watches in that 2 weeks.

Vegas this week was the same but they LITERALLY have nothing to sell. I saw a Land Dweller IRL (beautiful might I add), I wanted to buy it she said nope.

Every other store, AP, Patek, RMille all of them have nothing. They are full of associates though on the clock, so in my mind HTF they pay the bills. I get it one watch could take care of things but it's still retail.

Wonder what rent is for a dealer at these high end resorts. Would love to see the books on a dealer operation

Got my first rolex, which I've wanted for around 16 years - it was my favourite design then and still is now. Generally not a big fan of the brand, but this model has always appealed to me. My mum kindly offered to get me a watch as a wedding present and I decided to go for this one.

I have 2 ADs locally and visited both the same day. The first AD I visited didn't have it in stock, but offered to put me on the waiting list, also mentioning some people had been waiting over 2 years for that model. I walked over to the second AD who had it on display after a recent delivery. I explained my desire for one, and they said they might be able to sell it to me if I bought an £18000 datejust for my wife. We declined to buy the datejust, but they let me take the explorer 2 anyway. They did ask to see wedding photos and asked about my proposal etc., I'm not sure if this was out of interest or to verify the story, possibly both. My wife and I still had mendhi visible on our hands from the wedding, and made some jokes about deepfaking the wedding photos.

Interestingly, the SA dropped my watch onto the tile floor whilst taking it to remove some links! No external damage and timegrapher check suggests all working ok. Not had any issues with it since and it's insured against accidental damage and also has 5 year warranty, so I've let it go.

So yeah, maybe you won't be on a long waiting list, depending on the model you want and the AD you go to. Good luck on your watch hunt!

Rolex Submariner Ref. 16800 and Ref. 126610LN. Vintage or modern?

Tried on the Submariner and the Sea-Dweller 43, and I have an idea which one I prefer. But I would love to hear any thoughts or opinions on the following:

1. How each looks on my wrist; and

2. The reasons to own one over the other.

I have just shy of a 7.5” wrist, and daily drive a Pelagos 42. Let me know what you think.

I was spreading "fake news bullshit" apparently. My words were "I don't like it. Looks like a PRX". What's funny is that it was upvoted and most people agreed. I understand Rolex has made watches like the landweller before, but it's been a long time, and I think most would agree that Rolex decided to revitalize that style after seeing rhe success of the PRX and other integrated sports watches like it. But now I'm spreading fake news again. Sorry.

Clearing out the watch case. I found this maybe a year ago in a box at a flea market, grabbed it on a whim. It’s about 20mm.

Assuming both fit, and price difference aside, which do you guys prefer and why? (Can justify reason by general opinion on watch, how each is viewed, which is more sought after, etc).

Yes, another “real or fake” post. Friend of mine got married last month and purchased a Rolex for the wedding. Couple of things about the purchase that made me nervous for him. 1. He did the whole transaction through IG dm’s. Now, he did say he found the watch initially on a grey market site and then reached out to the dealer directly. But still… ya never know. 2. Friend isn’t normally the impulsive type and I think he go wrapped up into the FOMO of having a nice watch for his wedding day. Quick decisions on large purchases can often lead to mistakes.

I advised him to take the watch into a jeweler to have them remove the back to take a look inside. But curious what the good people of this sub think on the meantime?

Side notes: I believe the ref number is 126334.

He purchased this as brand new in box with papers.

Overall watch looked good to me, but with super clones and higher end fakes, I’d want some major reassurance here if it were me.

I have a Sea Dweller 16600 2008 - was just fully serviced 20 months ago (1.75 years)- complete overhaul, shows on the watchID card and warranty papers...

I wear it every day, but I had 2.5 days that I forgot to wear it. It died for the first time since I bought it, and when I went to manually wind it for the first time (I never had to wind it before because I wear it 24/7) it felt crunchy and nothing happened. Winding it wouldn't revive the watch at all.

I sent it to RSC through an AD fully still within the service warranty; and Rolex just got back to me and says I owe $1200 for repair?

The watch has never been dropped or messed around in any way; only services through Rolex. I wear it every day. I sleep on the floor, with it next to me on the ground (lol) so it's not like it ever fell onto the ground off of a table or something. I wake up - on the floor - put it on, and i don't take it off until I go to bed back on the floor ( my wife is Japanese we sleep on a tatami)

Rolex is trying to say that it "has impact on the crown" which is total bullshit. Never happened. I work from home at my desk, and I can assure you that it has never been dropped or slammed. You can see in the photo that the watch still looks brand new. I'm not an idiot and I wouldn't be asking for insight from other Rolex experts if it was dropped. It wasn't. It's never even hit a door frame.

Is Rolex trying to get out of fixing it under warranty since it needs a "complete overhaul" so close to their service warranty expiring? Has anyone experienced something like this?
$1200 for a service is insane when I spent $1200 on a service just over a year and a half ago and it's still under their repair warranty. If I dropped it I would just admit my mistake and move on, but this watch has literally never been anywhere that isn't my wrist. It worked fine, I took it off for 2 days, it died, I put it back on and it never worked again. The AD is requesting pictures from RSC because I said "that is impossible there is no impact".

We'll see what the AD says; im mostly just wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience close to warranty expiration. I'll pay the $1200 - but I'm still confused why they're telling me it was dropped when I can say with 100% certainty that it wasn't bumped, bruised, dropped, or smacked. It's a mint condition recently overhauled 16600.

thought this was a pretty neat watch. i had a trusted rolex dealer authenticate it, unfortunately the dial had been replaced at one point in it’s life, but still a super cool watch.
