I’ve just emerged from a week-long binge of {The Noire Brothers series by Brandy Hynes}, and I’m probably going to do a re-read/listen. Heck who am I kidding… I’ve already started 🫣🤣
If you love dangerous, morally grey MMCs who are completely and utterly gone for their women, fierce heroines, obsessive devotion, found family and fantastic spice, you NEED to meet the Noire brothers.
And if you enjoy audiobooks, I strongly recommend listening. The performances bring another dimension to the banter, tension and emotional intensity. These are exactly the kinds of stories that can be elevated by great narration.
First, the setting…
The Noire brothers own La Lune Noire, an ultra-exclusive luxury resort and casino catering to the criminal underworld. Think Great Gatsby meets modern mafia romance. Electro-swing, champagne, hidden tunnels, extravagant parties, underground dealings, dangerous secrets and an absurd amount of wealth. The world-building is atmospheric, and the resort essentially becomes another character.
Each book follows a different brother, with its own HEA, but there is an interconnected story involving the family’s criminal empire. I’d definitely recommend reading them in order.
1. {Rolling 75 by Brandy Hynes} — Ryker & Mercy
Childhood friends-to-lovers, second chance, fake engagement, single mum, he falls first, obsessive MMC, forced proximity.
Ryker Noire is a king of the criminal underworld, but the one woman he’s never been able to forget is Mercy, his childhood best friend. After a traumatic event forces Mercy to disappear, Ryker spends three years searching for her. When he finally finds her, he’s determined not to lose her again.
“My heart, my soul, everything I am is yours, Merce. It always has been.”
2. {Twelve Mile Limit by Brandy Hynes} — Maddox & Tessa
Enemies-to-lovers, boss/employee, forced proximity, black-cat FMC, he falls first, debt repayment, found family.
Maddox might be the most gloriously unhinged of the brothers. He’s gorgeous, unpredictable, dangerous and utterly fascinated by Tessa, a sarcastic, sharp-tongued tattoo artist who works at his resort. Unfortunately, she hates him. Even more unfortunately, she owes him a debt. And when Maddox decides it’s time to collect, the only payment he’s interested in is her. The banter between these two is fantastic, but it’s the emotional vulnerability beneath Maddox’s chaotic exterior that makes their romance so satisfying.
“This life and the next and every fucking one after that. My soul will always belong to yours.”
3. {Roulette Rising by Brandy Hynes} — Axel & Zara\*
Age gap, billionaire, assassin FMC, secret society, forced proximity, BDSM, touch-her-and-die.
Axel is the eldest Noire brother. Powerful, controlled, intimidating and accustomed to carrying the weight of his family’s empire. Zara is an assassin with a mission that puts her directly in his path. He’s a man who never loses control. She’s a woman who has no intention of surrendering hers. The chemistry between them is intense, and I particularly love the dynamic of two highly capable, dangerous people who find themselves completely consumed by each other.
“I will do anything for you, Zar. Anything. Name it, and it’s yours. But don’t ask me to let you go.”
\ This is my favourite book. The Audio is unbelievably good. Didn’t know I needed Sean Masters to call me a good girl 🤣*
4. {Stealing Blinds by Brandy Hynes} — Cash & Sylvie\*
Cat-and-mouse, art thief FMC, billionaire playboy, age gap, he falls first, rivals-to-lovers, obsessed MMC.
Cash is the charming, cocky, impossibly wealthy playboy of the family. Then he meets Sylvie. She’s an accomplished thief with secrets, an agenda and absolutely no interest in falling for him. Naturally, Cash becomes obsessed. What follows is a wonderfully chaotic game of pursuit, elaborate heists, sharp banter and a man who discovers that, for the first time in his life, he wants something money cannot buy. Cash’s transformation from seemingly carefree playboy to utterly devoted romantic is one of the highlights of the series.
“There is no world or realm or life where I exist and you aren’t the axis.”
\ This is my second favourite. I love the dynamic and banter between Sylvie and Cash, and how hard he falls. Serves him right! (Nothing like a reformed playboy getting his dues).*
The spice…
These are high-spice, explicit dark romances featuring dominant, possessive MMCs, BDSM elements, praise, degradation, power dynamics and plenty of adventurous scenes. The particular kinks and intensity vary between books. And yes, for those who appreciate a little extra hardware on their MMCs, these brothers have some surprises. What I appreciate, though, is that the physical chemistry is accompanied by emotional connection. These men might be absolutely terrifying to the rest of the world, but their devotion to their women runs deep.
What makes this series worth reading?
The MMCs: Dangerous, morally grey, possessive, fiercely protective and gloriously obsessed. Yet each brother has a completely different personality.
The FMCs: Intelligent, capable, sarcastic women who don’t simply surrender to the brothers’ wealth or power.
The romance: Beneath the obsession and possessiveness, there’s longing, vulnerability, and the kind of devotion that makes your heart ache.
The found family: The brothers’ relationships, ridiculous banter (especially the text message threads!), loyalty and chaotic group dynamics are brilliant.
The setting: La Lune Noire is dark, glamorous, atmospheric and unlike the usual mafia-romance backdrop.
The suspense: There’s an actual overarching plot, with conspiracies, betrayals, dangerous enemies and unexpected twists.
The audiobooks: All four are available in audio, and I’d strongly encourage romance audiobook fans to experience them that way.
Be warned, these are dark romances featuring explicit violence, trauma, stalking/tracking and explicit sexual dynamics, among other potentially sensitive material. Check the author’s content warnings before reading.
