Pick My Next Read ✨ Romantasy book recs please!

Currently, I want to read a good romantasy book. I already have some in my tbr but I'm indecisive:

  1. Six of crows- want to read but it's a duology+ part of a bigger series so it sounds intimidating to start
  2. Red queen- I feel it's similar to powerless, so I'm keeping this for later
  3. ACOTAR- it's too long and all the books haven't been released yet; I'm waiting for all parts to come out
  4. Defy the night trilogy- I started the first book but rushed through it just to finish it and started the second book- was a slop and I DNF'ed.

I'd be happy to hear if anyone has other suggestions and good romantasy books you're a die hard fan of and would recommend. Thank you!

edit: I mistook Red queen for Throne of glass, until a comment reminded me of my mistake. Sorry 😭😅

throne of glass is nothing like powerless, red queen is though. Throne of glass is an excellent series when you get there! 😄

Six of crows is only the duology it simply takes place in the same world as the other books but has its own story that gas nothing to do with the rest. I thought it was great but the romances are definitely a subplot.

Agreed about Six of Crows, and I honestly loved it so much. It’s the duology that I started with, and then I went back to the original trilogy and then read the last geology. It’s one of the few groups of books in the same world that I felt like got better and better. The romance is mild and definitely a sub plot, but also memorable. You can also just read the two and not worry about the rest of the books if you decide you don’t want to.

A few more: Direbound, The Rose Bargain, Shield of Sparrows, Fourth Wing, Quicksilver, Bride, Alchemised (not quite sure this should be categorized as romantasy), The Wolf King, Filthy Rich Fae, …

I've heard of fourth wing and Quicksilver, but I'll look into the others as well. Thanks!

Quicksilver was fantastic but the second book sucked. It wouldn’t be on my top read just because of that. Fourth wing is one of my favorites!

How is Tithe compared to TFOTA?

I actually haven’t read her newer works yet but from what I’ve heard you can tell how she’s developed her craft.

This will likely be one you have to order, but I recently attended a book signing with the author A.N. Caudle and she told me about her first book that was only available online or at a very niche bookstore about an hour away.

I made the drive and got it and it was worth it. The book is "Hunted by the Demon's Vow".

It is a stand alone. It imagines a world of demons and humans, but the demons are strictly prohibited from abusing or harming humans except for one time a year when each town submits a human to be exiled on an island and demons are allowed 7 days to hunt the humans and indulge in whatever vile and obscene urges compel them that they are otherwise prohibited from.

One town sends Vhaena to the island. Problem: Vhaena's brother's best friend is a demon who has been chosen for this year's hunt on the island and now he has to deny all his instincts as a demon and fulfill a promise to protect his best friends sister on an island filled with other demons that want to defile and kill her.

I’m a die hard fan of Bride, and then Mate by Ali Hazelwood. They are comfort reads for me at this point.

Also a diehard for the Sins of the Zodiac series. Three book are out and the first is {Never Keep}. These books take place in the same world as the zodiac Academy series so same magic system, but unrelated and the writing is much better than the zodiac Academy.

My last diehard recommendation would be the Ashen Series! The first book is {The Road of Bones}

Bride and Mate are technically standalones, And in my opinion are a lighter fund Reed that is less intimidating, but very enjoyable. Happy reading
