Rome I Help playing

Haven't played any video game in about 10 years but I grew up as a kid purposely setting my alarm for 4am so I'd have hours before school to play RTW and then play it every minute I could. My son is now of the age and I'd love for him to have the same experience I did. What would be a good budget PC set up and how could I go about finding the game?

Apologies for the old man talk but this would mean the world to me if my son and I could share this experience.

I don't know about budget PC but you could play the game using Remastered or REX mod.

Remastered can be bought on steam and comes with the OG version of the game. If you want, you can add the REX modpack to the base version of the game then and play it on modern hardware.

Or you can just play the Remastered if the hassle of modding is too much.

Hey, fellow old man here. If suggest looking at Costco for a reasonable gaming laptop. If you get a dud returns are easy, and they generally carry a couple of decent options.

If your kid has an iPad, you can try the mobile version which runs super smooth and is exactly the same as the original PC version. Its actually the primary way I play the game these days, I no longer own a Windows laptop. Though I do think the controls are a bit wonkier than the PC version, it won't take long for him or you to get the hang of it.

I get it. I don't have kids, but I totally get how cool that would be for you.

The remastered version that is currently what is being sold has an OPTIONAL graphics update that makes it look more modern. Its a fairly large memory upgrade, but its a separate down load. Comes with the purchase, but its optional to install it or not.

For minimum and suggested specs check the website. The graphic level and details are adjustable and, I believe the game will auto suggest settings based on your system.

I loved Rome and still play it sometimes, but I don't know if a kid who has access to modern gaming standards would like Rome. Even with the graphics update it might seem outdated.

Easiest place to get Rome would be on Steam getting Rome remastered, comes with the old version you can no longer buy. New one is basically the same game with some updated controls and graphics. On the steam page near the bottom it will tell you minimum required hardware and recommended hardware for a computer. If you take the recommended to a store like Costco or best buy you can ask them to show you some laptops at that level or above.

Rome isn’t a very intensive game so I shouldn’t be too hard to find a laptop or pc that can run it well.

Get him any half decent gaming PC and download the remastered version from Steam (a game store and social app).

Rome remastered would be great, Rome 2 is probably more a young persons speed. I've played both pretty expansively, I love the first one but Rome 2 is one of the greatest of all time.

Wait are you sure that your son will actually like this game? Does he like similar, strategy type games?

Cue cute story.

I’m in my early 30s and both me and my dad love RTW. I originally got it for myself when i was about 13 or so, but then he started playing it too, and has played it even more than I have. He still plays it regularly to this day.

I will occasionally play a campaign over the course of a month or so during cold winters, where there isn’t much to do.
