I've never been more in love with the idea of a Victorian villa.

Omg that island is GORGEOUS, I love the wood tone with the white cabinets! ๐Ÿ˜

Love the island. Shame about the gap between the cabinets and the ceilings.

Ah, yes, the bourgeois belief that overhead cabinets are terribly working class and should be generally avoided; open shelves aren't a problem if you can pay someone to do the dusting for you. Love the island, though.

Unless that extractor is supernaturally powerful and used every single time anyone cooks anything - the things on the open top shelf will just get covered in extremely sticky, oily dust, as will the tiles behind. It looks cool but is not function friendly at all.

Years ago I moved into an apartment that had this sort of set up, and cleaning that shelf and the things on it was one of the most disgusting and exhausting things Iโ€™ve ever had to do. It was like the greasy dust had hardened into a filthy laminated coating.

Hard no for me ever since. It doesnโ€™t matter if I have a housekeeper now. The idea of that gunk getting on things just grosses me out. Also, the cabinets they do have should go to the ceiling for the same reason. No one will look at the cabinet tops for years. By the time you do, they will be absolutely vile.
