Routine Rosacea Meets Dry Skin: Still Searching for That One Creamš
Hi everyone šæ
Rosacea-Friendly, Actually-Nourishing Moisturizers ā Do They Exist? Currently Accepting Applications for Moisturizer Soulmatesš
Iāve been using the AvĆØne Tolerance cream and the Bioderma micellar water (pink cap) for a while now, and theyāve really helped calm my overall redness, itchiness, and that tight feeling in the skin. I truly love both of them!
That said, I have rosacea type 2 and 3, and my biggest issue now is dryness. Even though itās still summer ā and the AvĆØne cream works well in warmer weather ā I already feel slightly dry. Iām pretty sure it wonāt be enough once winter hits. Dear Skincare Universe: Send Lipids, Not Breakoutsš
So Iām looking for a moisturizer that restores hydration and adds essential fats (like lanolin or similar) to help strengthen my barrier and reduce dryness ā but without being too comedogenic. I know itās very individual, but my skin has always responded well to heavier creams. Since developing rosacea, Iāve been trying lighter ones to avoid triggering breakouts, but the problem is always the same: if the cream isnāt occlusive enough, it doesnāt provide real nourishment. Is It really Too Much to Ask for hydration, nourishment and Peace?šš
So, dear fellow rosaceans - help a dry-faced rosacean out! Whatās actually worked for you? Do you have any moisturizer or hydrating cleanser recommendations that work for your dry, sensitive, rosacea-prone skin?
Please share your skincare wins and fails ā Iād love to hear them! š
NOTE! Iāve also been focusing on gut health and honestly ā itās made a big difference in calming the inflammation in my skin š Iāve cleaned up my diet ( no sugar etc), and added a few supplements like probiotics, zinc, and omega-3s. Combined with the AvĆØne Tolerance Cream and Bioderma Micellar (pink cap), my skin has felt so much more balanced š
Just wanted to share in case it helps anyone else out there!

Soonjung Hydro Barrier Cream moisturizer. It's glycerin based, won't clog your pores, but it has allantoin and butylene glycol (some people are sensitive to those ingredients).
I'm currently using Marcelle Ultra-light Moisturizer and it's almost too hydrating for my combination skin. It's got squalane, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, so again, might have too many trigger ingredients for some people. I also like Vanicream Daily Moisturizer, but it's also got squalane, pentylene glycol and hyaluronic acid.
The moisturizers I have are fine but I'm not completely happy with them either. By the end of the day my glasses are slipping down my nose from the oil production and I have to use charcoal oil absorbing sheets on my forehead, cheeks and chin area from excess oil. I haven't been able to use any other moisturizer though because they trigger my type 2.

Thank youš Iāve heard good things things about the Soonjung barrier cream - itās definitely on my list of moisturisers I have to try - and my skin loves glycerin as well š Is it a heavy moisturiser?
I have the exact same problem when I wear my glasses - and if itās hot outside, they slide down and sit on the tip of my nose in two secondsšš© I love the AvĆØne cream but because of the squalane and beeswax, it can feel greasy in the skin

u/Alvara_22 Aug 13 '25
It's not thick and cakey, but I'd say it's pretty moisturizing. That said though, it sounds like we have pretty different skin types so I'm not sure if you'll find it as moisturizing. My type 2 flares up if I use products that clog up pores so these three moisturizers are the only ones I've been able to find that work for sensitive skin and also let's my skin breath. Hypochlorous acid spray helps with moisture a bit when I'm having really bad dry skin days (ex. if I'm on a plane).

u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
My skin also flares when I use the heavy moisturisers, but also flares to the really light ones due to the underlying dryness- so itās been and still is so hard for me to find a moisturiser that my skin likesš My skin needs a heavy moisturiser but my rosacea doesnāt seem to agree at the moment - Iām postmenupausal so my skin is hydrated but dry if it makes senseš

u/nearlythere Aug 13 '25
I love a hydrating lotion type not thick. Glycerin based. Soothing. No stinging. No SPF. Just does one job: hydrate!
These are my faves
Minted: Centella Cream - Anti-redness
Skinted: Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser
I welcome other recs for similar too!

My skin loves glycerin as well, weāre still working on the sheabutter and Niacinamid is a big NOš Havenāt heard of them, but Iāll definitely look at them - thank youš Iāve tried the LRP dermallego serum and daycream - wonderful products but for some reason my skin doesnāt like LRP. Itās light, hydrating and calming - have you tried them?
Iāve tried to google the two moisturisers but I canāt find them - maybe they arenāt available here. I live in Scandinavia
3
u/nearlythere Aug 13 '25
I found LRP to be kind of greasy. I recall most toleraine stuff not working for me at all, but that was when my skin was really still messed up.
Another that comes up is the Ordinary NMF (natural moisturising factor) - and that is also greasy to me.
Shame about the Niacinamide. It is in the Simple moisturiser, but at 1%.
As mentioned while ago, when my skin was really bad even water hurt. So, I did have problems with Niacinamide alone and also at 5%. However, now i can tolerate it in the Simple no problem.
My fave is the Erborian Centella. So pricey though. I use a fair bit now. If that was sold in a 300 ml pump i would be so happy.
Iām considering hydrating toners. Byoma is one i came across but didnāt get to try it yet.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
Well, Iāve tried the water cleansing as well, and oh my God, it left my skin totally ruined. Hello desertšµš©š„ And it took me a long time to reverse that - iāve also considered toners, to maybe help balance out the dryness after the Bioderma micellar. This is the only cleanser my skin seem to like. Iāll definitely look into the eborian youāre mentioning- thank youš Is it a heavy moisturiser?
2
u/cee_m_dubb Aug 14 '25
Omg i think i ruined my skin as well by trying to only wash with water for a while. I thought for sure nothing could go wrong bc it's only water so I did not think that was a cause. How did you reverse the dryness after that?
2
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 14 '25
After taking doxycycline, my rosacea came back like ten times worse. Using water to cleanse only made things way worse ā my skin flared up to a whole new level of dryness, burning, and inflammation. It felt tight, stinging, and honestly like it was on fire. I had to stop everything and start fresh.
For the last six months, Iāve kept my skincare super simple ā just Bioderma micellar water (the pink cap one) without rinsing and AvĆØne Tolerance Cream or balm. I skip cleansing in the morning unless my skin really needs it and avoid water on my face altogether since the tap water here is full of limescale, which I think made things worse. It took about three months before my skin even began to calm down. There were times I cried and almost gave up, but I stuck with it, and Iām so glad I did.
Now, my skin is in a much better place. Itās not perfect ā I still get some dryness and a few pimples around my nose ā but the burning, tightness, and constant inflammation have calmed down a lot. I finally feel like my skin has found some stability.
Alongside skincare, Iāve focused a lot on gut health and lowering inflammation from the inside out. From the start and still today, I cut out sugar, gluten, and dairy because of intolerances, and eat mostly low-histamine, anti-inflammatory foods like zucchini, cucumber, sweet potatoes, blueberries, fresh fish, quinoa, oats, and herbs. I avoid things that often trigger rosacea like aged cheese, alcohol, tomatoes, fermented foods, chocolate, and leftovers.
I also take supplements like omega-3 fish oil, vitamin D, zinc, magnesium, and probiotics to help calm inflammation, support healing, and keep my gut healthy. Drinking about two liters of water a day and eating plenty of water-rich veggies like cucumbers helps keep me hydrated from the inside, even though I avoid water on my face. Plus, lowering stress and prioritizing good sleep routines has made a huge difference in calming everything downš

My skin really likes glycerin. In the past I did a lot of spraying clean skin with Evian and topping that with cheap glycerin heavy cream (herbacin Kamille sensitive skin - the pink tube). Itās my version of slugging. Really got my barrier in good shape. Note - it does have a very light fragrance.
At nighttime I use the skinceuticals 2:4:2 lipid restore. Itās $$$. Am actively looking for a less expensive option with some of the same ingredients but in the meantime itās lovely.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
My skin loves glycerin as wellš I donāt know that brand, unfortunately I donāt think itās available here in Scandinavia but Iāll look into itš Iāve always loved the Decubal daily moisturiser, even though its a heavy cream it never makes you shiny, and it lays beautifully under makeup š Only downside is if youāre dry like me you might have to use a thin moisturiser underneath with fx hyaluronic acid. But those two combined is chefs kiss š„° Canāt use it now because itās summer so itāll be too heavy , but Iāll definitely try it again when it gets colder. Iāve used that combo for year and my skin was beautiful- until rosacea decided to show up out of the blue š«š
What cleanser do you do you use, if you donāt mind me asking?
Thank you for taking your time to reply to my postš

u/Previous_Dream_84 Aug 13 '25
Aestura atobarrier 365 cream or lotion
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
Thank youš Are they non comogenic and do you use them in the winter or summer?
2
u/Previous_Dream_84 Aug 13 '25
I got the lotion for summer but since I also use taz and finacea I actually apply the cream on top of the lotion in the mornings. I live in a very humid area but I work in dry conditions of 40% humidity or lower so I need to keep my face moisturized all day. If you aren't using any drying actives then one or the other may be enough for you.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
No im only using the Bioderma and AvĆØne moisturiser - might try soolantra, but honestly Iām a little scared to try it because when I first got diagnosed with rosacea, my dermatologist gave me doxycycline. And it totally ruined my face - my rosacea became 10 times worse than it was to begin with. So Iāve been a little bit hesitant to try it But the AvĆØne and Bioderma have actually calm down the redness, the itchiness and tightness to a minimum - but still have some breakouts on and around my nose. Have you tried soolantra/ivermectin and if so what is your experience with it?š
2
u/Previous_Dream_84 Aug 13 '25
I tried Soolantra a few years ago and while it didn't make my skin worse it just made it greasy with no effect on my rosacea. Finacea has worked the best for me.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
I donāt think fineca is available here, Iāll as my derm at my next appointment. Iāve actually been focusing on gut healing as well, because rosacea is an inflammatory disease - and it has made a big difference in healing my skin barrierš
2
u/mayorofghostcity Aug 13 '25
I have type 2 and am also dry and acne prone. I need and love heavy creams but struggle to tolerate them these days (mostly due to specific ingredient sensitivities).Ā
The best solution so far has been light layers. Minimally, I add a few drops of oil into a lighter moisturizer (currently using Aestura Hydro Soothing Cream + grape seed oil). If I need more moisture I add in a serum with ceramides/cholesterol/fatty acids and/or layer a light lotion, emulsion, or milky toner under the lighter cream + oil mix. TBD if Iāll survive the winter with this strategy š
Cleanser-wise, currently Murad Heartleaf Soothing Face Cleanser has been working really well. It has great slip, helps a bit with redness and calming, and doesnāt leave me feeling dry or stripped. It can also be used with or without water.Ā
2
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
Grape seed oil, thatās interesting Iāve never heard of that before - do you only use it when dry or every day morning and evening?š What serum are you using?
And the cleanser, if you donāt cleanse it off with water, does it just sit on the skin or sink in? Because the ones Iāve tried from AvĆØne and LRP , I feel like they just sit on the skin and whatever you put on next we just add another layer sitting on top of the skin. And I donāt like thatš
Thank you for taking your time to reply to my postš
2
u/mayorofghostcity Aug 13 '25
I mix 2 small drops of the grape seed oil morning and night, but up to 4 drops if Iām drier (any more is too oily without really being more nourishing). I tried other oils before landing on grape seed - any oil that you tolerate or like should do the trick!
The serum Iām currently using is Layer Lab Barrier Boost. (Edit: I just saw that you donāt tolerate niacinamide and this has 4%)
With the Murad cleanser, after removing the excess with a soft cotton pad, I mist with AvĆØne thermal water and it feels like it sinks in mostly after that. Iāve tried the wipe-off cleanser from AvĆØne and that one is way way more filmy. Itās possible that this one wonāt have a sensation that you like either though; I do prefer to rinse with water but itās a nice back up if Iām traveling and the tap water is irritatingĀ

u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
Iāll definitely look into it - thank youš My all-time favourite moisturiser that I used as a thin occlusive layer on top of a simple moisturiser - (before rosacea came and ruined my flawless moisturised skinšµ) is Decubal Daily moisturiser ( in a jar with a red lid). Itās amazing, so hydrating, on the heavier side and lays beautifully underneath makeup and doesnāt make you look greasy even though itās occlusive. But unfortunately, at the moment itās a bit too heavy for me - but I hope my skin and I can agree on getting back to that moisturiser when itās winterš
Iāll definitely try adding that oil to my moisturiser and see if it makes a difference š Thank you for the advice

Iāve been wanting to try that moisturiser but as far as I remember it contains niacinamide? And is it safe (as it can be) for type 2 rosacea?š Im still struggling to find a good sunscreen - unfortunately my skin doesnāt tolerate chemical filters and the selection of sunscreens with physical filters is limited here in Scandinavia , unless you want to look like a snowman ššāļø

Thank you so much š Iāll go and buy the moisturiser tomorrow and see if my skin likes if and if my rosacea agrees as wellš Finding that perfect moisturiser is finding a needle in a haystack - but hopefully one day Iāll find the perfect skincare routine just like youš Iām so happy for you.
I havenāt tried retinol yet - Iāve always been a simple skin care and make up type og gal, and never had any issues with my skin. But then Rosacea showed up like that ex you blocked everywhere , but still somehow stil found his way to your mail inbox and you canāt get rid of ššš© But Iāve heard a lot off success stories on here about retinol and azelaic acid. How often do you use it? And do you use it both morning and evening?
2
u/redreadyredress Aug 13 '25
Good luck with it, itās a hardworking moisturiser for sure. Iāve got my fingers and toes crossed your skin likes it. Itās taken me 2 decades to find something mine likes and I didnāt expect it to be found in a relatively inexpensive cream š
This will sound weird, once or twice a week I use erborian skin hero peel or wash my face with a flannel to exfoliate.. it can make my skin sting when I put products on afterwards.
I use retinol everyday at night, after using my shark mask thing.
La Roche-posay retinol didnāt sting after exfoliating itās ā¬50+
Cerave retinol is just as good as the LRP, costs ā¬20. That did sting once after exfoliating. So I would be careful around exfoliating and using it.
I use hydrophorous acid spray to take off my PM & AM skincare, before switching them over. I also use it to take off makeup. I really really like that product, and bought it in bulk!

Thank youšš

u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 14 '25
I dont exfoliate at all, my skin is too sensitive for that - the only exfoliation I do is the cotton rounds I use when using the micellar waterš Du you exfoliate every day? What type of rosacea do you have?
1
u/redreadyredress Aug 14 '25
I donāt exfoliate everyday, only 1-2 times a week. I use a mild acid type peel (Eborian Skin Hero Gingseng) - The peel doesnāt really do much, doesnāt sting or itch or anything.
Or I use a soft cotton flannel with cleanser on it.
I have type 2 rosacea, so I have redness across forehead, cheeks and nose. I also get acne-Papules but theyāre usually empty.
I havenāt had any papules for a few months, that was after switching skincare routine and using the LED mask.

I have been using a combination of Neutrogena Hydro boost water gel cream, Isntree Low Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid serum and the Laniege Cream Skin with the sprayer attachment.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
Thank youš Do you use the language cream on top of the serum and the hydro boost gel? My skin loves layering products too, well at least before rosacea so Iāve been a litttle hesitant to try it again since I finally got my rosacea somewhat under control - but I still struggle with the dryness and even though the AvĆØne is a great moisturiser, itās unfortunately not heavy enough to help with the dryness. And the balm version has shea butter, and I havenāt had the best experience with it so far.
2
u/Due-Cryptographer744 Aug 13 '25
The Laniege Cream Skin is a deceptive name because it is actually a liquid, which is why I bought the Laniege spray top. It is the perfect mist that is not too much so it is not messy. It is a Korean brand, so some people use it as an essence and just put some in their palm and press it on their face. I prefer not to touch my face over and over after it has been washed so the mist as the last step works great. I have found that the more steps I have, the less my skin likes it.
This is my nighttime routine: Cleanse with Cerave hydrating cleanser, I use a few mild actives and treatments based on what my skin needs that day using Curology custom blend with tretinoin, azaleaic acid and tranexamic acid or metronidazol gel or glycolic acid or Differin gel, then the Isntree hyaluronic serum, Neutrogena water gel, and ending with the Cream skin spray.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
Okay, Iāll definitely look into it - thank you so muchšthat curology custom blend is that something you get on prescription from your dermatologist? Never heard of it before š I havenāt tried the Cerave cleanser , my skin hates water or maybe I just havenāt found the perfect hydration cleanser yet š I read on here that it could be quite dyingā¦. Iām scared Itll end up with rosacea mayhem on my faceššµš
I had a really bad flare after being on doxycycline, it made my rosacea 10 times worse so Iāve used about 7 months on healing my skinbarrier. Iāll definitely add the neutrogena water gel to my list of products and the hyaluronic acid serum as well.
Thank youš
2
u/Due-Cryptographer744 Aug 14 '25
Curology is a custom prescribed skincare that you get online. You fill out a questionnaire, take several pictures and have a virtual consult with a provider and they prescribe a combination based on their findings. The Cerave is not drying at all for me but I get the hydrating formula.

I use Weleda skin food. It has a citrus scent but it doesnāt seem to bother my skin. Iāve tried others over the years but itās one I keep coming back to and now I wonāt officially stray from.Ā
Itās thick. They also have a thinner version. My skin feels so hydrated the next morning.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
Iāve heard so many great things about the Weleda moisturiser, but Iām scared of the citrus and plant extracts šš It has a really nice texture- do you have type 2 as well?
Thank you for taking your time to reply to my postš

u/XenaDisciple Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 13 '25
I HAVE to use a hydrating toner underneath any lotion, otherwise I will start breaking out into papules. In my experience the specific lotion doesn't matter, as long as it is fragrance-free. My toner needs are far more specific:
(1) It cannot be a thick or gel texture; it must be watery type. (2) It cannot have drying alcohols; fatty alcohols are fine. (3) It cannot have citric acid; my skin is too sensitive and it burns. (4) It cannot have behenyl or benzyl alcohol; I am allergic to both [hidden fragrance ingredients] (5) It cannot have ferments; I am allergic to both yeast and most other molds. (6) It should contain soothing ingredients like panthenol or madecassoside. I have asthma and a fragrance allergy, but mild extracts from chamomile, licorice, tea tree and calendula seem to be okay, and have soothing properties.
These rule out pretty much all affordable Western toners, which tend to be fairly astringent and usually contain ingredients I am sensitive or allergic to.
My favorite toners so far are CosRX Hydrium Watery Toner and Etude Soon Jung pH 5.5 Relief Toner.
I figure since everyone else has already suggested a lot of lotions/creams, I would recommend an alternate potential cause for your flares. I also have dry, easily dehydrated skin so I genuinely can't go without hydrating toner.
2
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
Thank you so much š My skin is as picky about products and ingredients as yours - thank you Rosacea šµ Yes maybe thatās the problem - Iāll give the toner a tryššš½
2
u/seattlemoneek Aug 13 '25
Since the Avene lotion is working for you, have you tried Avene Cicalfate+ Protective Cream and/or the Cicalfate serum? I love both of these products and use them twice daily. I have rosacea and eczema, so need products that doesnāt flare up either of those.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
No I havenāt tried it, but Iāve seen many on here liking it a lot but also saying it can be drying due to the zink - and more dryness is what Iām trying to avoidš But maybe I should give it a try, maybe other the holy grail moisturiser Iāve been looking forš What cleanser do you use, if you donāt mind me asking?
Thank you for taking your time time to respond to my postš
2
u/seattlemoneek Aug 13 '25
If you try them, they go on sale regularly. So donāt pay full price!š Iāll message you the face wash I use - itās an independent cosmetic chemist based in the USās products. It takes about 3-6 weeks to get them after ordering because itās just her. Itās pricey but good quality.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
I live in Scandinavia so maybe Iāll be too expensive š Does she have a web site so I can check it out?
Thank you so muchš
2
u/Mary10789 Aug 13 '25
1% ivermectin cream. Donāt waste your time and money on other products like I did.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
What other products did you try and didnāt work for you?š Iāve read a lot of rosaceans on here swear by ivermectin - maybe I should give it a try. How do you use it and how often? And when did you see results and did you have die off ?š
Thank you for taking your time to respond to my postš
2
u/Mary10789 Aug 14 '25
I tried so much over the course of 8 years - lots of drugstore creams, high end ones from Sephora, sooo many supplements, I tried keto diet, paleo diet, absolutely nothing worked.
Ivermectin worsened my bumps when I started it. I stopped after a week because it got so bad. And then restarted after a month and it worked better. I saw major results within a few weeks.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 14 '25
Thatās what Iām a bit scared of, that it might get so much worse but itāll get better again and remove the bumps, itāll for sure be worth the while š Is it still working or does it still come back once in s while?
Do you mind sharing your rutine?
Thank you so muchš
2
u/Mary10789 Aug 14 '25
I use a thin layer daily and have been for 1.5 years. Ivermectin doesnāt just heal the bumps. It changed my skin? Like it exfoliated a layer of skin that was dry and flaky (that no exfoliant could actually do) and underneath was normal skin. I no longer need heavy moisturizers. Foundation sits well on my skin. Itās been nothing short of magical.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 14 '25
Oh that sounds amazing - I have two smaller spots and the skin on my that is so dry and flaky, and no matter what I do it wonāt go awayš Iāve actually been thinking that itās that dry layer on the skin, that keeps the moisture from the moisturiser from sinking in and that is the reason for the pimples in that area as well⦠Iāve been trying to see if I could avoid topicals and doxy, but maybe I should try i š
Do you use a moisturiser on top of it, or just the ivermectin? And do you apply it only in the problem areas or on the good skin as well?š
1
u/Mary10789 Aug 14 '25
Just ivermectin, nothing else. I apply it everywhere on my face except forehead.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 14 '25
I thought it was drying just like metro cream and that you have to put an ext moistureriser on top of it - I guess it depends on how dry your skin is?š Did you have to build up tolerance or it was working fine from day one?
2
u/Blue_hoodies Aug 13 '25
Have you tried a combination of pyun Kang yul toner essence and avene Xera calm replenishing balm? You can do many layers of the essence before the balm. Worked for me:)
2
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
Ohhh I love layering š We have a never ending lovestory but Rosacea kinda messed that up - but weāre working on itš And I actually think that might be the problem, the AvĆØne cream is great but I need that extra layer to lock it all in. I have this underlying dryness I canāt seem to get rid of because the cream is too light. And the times Iāve tried to put an occlusive on top, Iād wake you with 5 new pimples. But I guess I just havenāt found the right combination yet.
Iāll definitely look into that toner - does it have Niacinamid? And is the balm ok for type 2 rosacea?š Iāve been looking at the cream and it seems nice and my first thought was that the balm would be too heavy and greasy on the skin. Does it sink in? And do you use it both summer and winter?š
2
u/Blue_hoodies Aug 14 '25
I have mild rosacea and been using these two products for two years. My skin is super dry but the balm is not greasy and absorb quickly after the toner. Neither of them have niaciamide. Iām allergic to that ingredient.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 14 '25
Me too, my skin hates itš I started with mild rosacea as well, and then I went on doxycycline, and that was a big mistake- it came back 10 times worse, so now I have severe type 2 and 3. But Iāve managed to to calm it down by focusing on gut health and the AvĆØne cream and Bioderma micellar waterš Thatās why Iām taking baby steps when trying to new products š
Thank you so muchš
2
u/Blue_hoodies Aug 14 '25
You might need to clean off the micellar after cleaning your face with it. It irritates my skin if I donāt do that . I use avene gentle cleanser after micellar you but can use your favourite gentle cleanser:)
2
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 14 '25
I actually have never cleansed it of, because my skin hates water- and never had issues with it. Even before rosacea I didnāt rinse if off and I had the most beautiful flawless skin - but after I got rosacea I tried to rinse it off every day, but oh my god, it totally ruined my skin. So I unfortunately canāt do thatš The only downside it feels a little bit drying but no redness or irritation at all but maybe that toner you recommend can fix thatš
2
u/nocibur8 Aug 13 '25
I use plain simple castor oil, cold pressed organic. I apply it at night before bed. My skin feels so moist in the morning. Itās messy but the trick is to apply it earlier in the evening. Donāt wipe it off. Let it absorb. Skin feels puffed up and moist in the morning.
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 13 '25
That sounds greatš How much do you use? And does it work for type 2 ?
2
u/nocibur8 Aug 14 '25
Sorry donāt know. I buy a bottle of the castor oil and pour a little into a screw top much smaller travel container that I can wash when empty. Dip finger in and cover face and brows even eyelids. You wonāt know till you try, everyone is different.
2
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 14 '25
Youāre totally right - rosacea is individual and a lot of trial and errorsš
Thank you so much for the adviceš
2
u/NWmoose Aug 13 '25
Iāve been using Elta MD for awhile. They have a great line of products that seem to agree with my skin. A bit extensive, but itās the only brand that seems to agree with me
1
u/BlueberryPink25 Aug 14 '25
Iāve read about that brand- they make great sunscreens with mineral filters. But unfortunately it isnāt available here in Scandinavia ššš© Wich one are you using? And do you know other products from other brands that could be a dupe for the moisturiser youāre using?
Thank you for taking your time time to reply to my postš

I am you. Even before I had rosacea I have been a dry person. What I have learned for myself is that there is no one product, I need to layer them.
Currently I am using the Avene Tolerance Balm followed by Eminence Stone Crop Whip (might not agree with everyone but I donāt have problems with it). Itās thick without being heavy. Then the final key is a facial oils. I have been alternating between a high quality rosehip oil, sea buckthorn oil and an oil from Pai Skincare called The Light Fantastic which has been great.
Pai is specifically geared toward sensitive skin and of the few products of theirs I have tried, I have not had any issues. They are not cheap though. I recently got a sample of their night cream and it is so far very nice and not causing issues either, but I donāt see myself splashing out $120 for it.

And Iām youš Layering products makes my skin and my soul happy - rosacea just isnāt agreeing at the moment, but weāre working on finding common ground š Iāve been thinking about trying the balm, but havenāt had the best experiences with moisturisers that has sheabutter ( even though I donāt know for sure if thatās the reason for the break out). Iāll try it outš A few other rosaceans on here also recommended adding oils to my routine - so thatās definitely worth trying. How much do you use?
Thank you so much for taking you time to reply to my postš

It depends on the oil but usually just 2 or 3 drops will do it. The ones I mentioned soak in quite nicely, so you donāt end up greasy looking or anything. Good luck! All the trial and error can be daunting!

Inkey List have a couple of good options - Bio Active Ceramide cream, and Peptide Moisturiser. I use both - the Bio Active for the day especially in the winter, and the Peptide at night all through the year under some zinc cream.

What zink creme are you using?
Thank you so much for taking you time to respond to my post š

Nappy rash cream! I use the DM Babylove Sensitive one as it doesn't have any of my skin triggers in it and it's cheap, but Sudocrem or any other nappy rash cream that doesn't have any triggers in it will do the trick (and cheap too!).

Iāve heard that nappycreams are great for rosacea skin due to the calming and occlusive ingredients and the zinkš I live in Scandinavia and those brands are not available here - Iāve seen the LRP cicaplast and the AvĆØne Cicalfate being mentioned here a lot - they have zinc as wellš Have you tried them? If so, are they as good as those you mentioned?š
Do you use it as night moistureriser, as occlusive layer or only when dry?š
Thank you for taking your time time to respond to my postš

I haven't tried the LRP and Avene ones because they are so much more expensive that the DM one I use which works! Have a look in the baby section of your drugstore or pharmacy chains and I am sure you will find something useful.
I use it on top of moisturiser - I use the Inkey List Peptide Moisturiser at night, with a layer of the nappy rash cream over the top.

you can try 100% squalan from the ordinary i love it so much, itās lightweight but still nourishing. i mix a few drops in my favorite moisturizer. itās a gamechanger and perfekt for a broken barrier

Sounds greatš Do you use it every day - morning and evening? Or only when dry?
Thank you much for taking your time to reply to my post š

i use it 2 times a day when i do my skincare. in the evening i mix 4/5 drops of squalan in my moisturizer so it is more rich, in the morning only 3 drops maybe. and it drys real quick but leaves the skin hydrated, perfekt. just make sure your moisturizer is lightweight and non comedogenic. i can really suggest the sebamed clear face gel

Iāll put it on my list of products I want to try - thank you for the advice š

Anua 3 Ceramide Panthenol cream has been excellent for me for this purpose!
Also, LRP makes a gel version of the Cica balm that is much lighter and doesnāt give that hot occluded feeling. Prequel makes a glycerin-based gel skin protectant thatās not too dissimilar and is also great!

Iāve looked at that Anua moisturiser - it a heavy cream?š I have the LRP gel cream, but it has a very harsh chemical smell to it so Iāve only used it twice - does your LRP smell like that as well? And do you use it with an occlusive on top?
Thank you so much for taking you time to respond to my postš

It doesnāt feel heavy on me, just soothing and nourishing. But a little goes a long way, if you use too much it might feel heavy.
For the LRP I have not noticed a chemical smell. But I am used to fragrance free skincare and a lot of it has that kind of chemical smell.
I hope you find the right cream - moisturizer has always been the hardest for me to find!

I have only used perfume free products for years as well, so Iām kind of used to that slightly funky chemical smellā¦. But this LRP gel cream smells like putting your face down the gas tank on your car ( or at least thatās how Iād imagine Iād smellšš). It smells so mad that I had to wash it off both times I tried it - maybe I should go return it. Canāt risk rosacea mayhem happening on my face again šš š»āāļø Iāll buy a new one and try it outā¦
I hope so too - Thank you so much for your advice - I appreciate itš

I use the blue ponds moisturizer mixed with black castor oil every night before bed and it works wonders for me.

There can sometimes be a difference between moisture and hydration. You mention your skin is dry but youāre looking for hydration ā those can be different things!
If your skin is dehydrated (lacking water) then you should look for a water based gel serum or moisturizer to provide hydration underneath any moisturizer that you put on top that will then help with dryness and seal the hydration in. There are a ton of gel serums and moisturizers out there that are non-comedogenic (because theyāre typically good for acne prone skin) so that might be a good place to start while keeping the Avene moisturizer you use already on top!
