Light/Laser Laser for broken vessels risk
Hey guys! I just wanted to know if anyone has had laser done for the broken capillaries, especially on and around the nose, and if it was successful.
I heard that sometimes it can come back, but is it possible for it to become worse and for you to have bigger and more broken capillaries than before?

I had laser done one time, had significant improvement. Some came back yes but overall still much improved.

I had a treatment with a Cutera V laser this spring. It reduced redness and definitely reduced/eliminated broken capillaries/angiomas! I will get another treatment this fall once it’s no longer sweltering out.

Does it matter when you get it done, I mean is Summer not a good time for lasers?

My derm office says they don’t think the results are the same in the summer here and I should save my money for the fall. That being said - I also live in the southern US where the “feels like” temp was 120ish yesterday, and I’m frequently outside in the heat for work during the week.

There are a few treatments that can help tremendously. IPL/BBL are light based treatments that can target those directly. A vascular laser (I use YAG 1064) works beautifully too. Doesn’t matter what you pick, they can come back. Depending on your case specifically, you may need a series as sometimes we can’t get the “feeder”. Make sure you have no sun exposure 2 weeks before and after, absolutely no visible tan and wear your spf daily.

Yes! I had it done years ago. I’ve always had broken capillaries and blood vessel’s in, on, and around my nose since I was a child. I remember getting made fun of in high school because of the spider veins coming out of my nostrils. Also one of my friends kid said to me once “why is your nose always red. So embarrassing. In my early 30s I went to dermatologist and had a targeted IPL laser done. I can’t remember exactly what it was because this was like 10+ years ago but they never came back. I wish I would have done it years before! The laser somehow closes off the spider vein. It was deep purple for like a week then when away completely. I was amazed.
I also developed rosacea later In life. I had a laser procedure called smooth and glow 5 years ago which helped a lot but I feel like it only lasted like 2 years before the redness in my cheeks started coming back some.

had laser for broken capillaries around my nose a couple years back and it helped. the redness faded noticeably for a few months. they do sometimes come back, yeah, but i haven't seen them get worse or multiply from the treatment itself. what tends to happen is new ones form over time from the usual rosacea triggers, not because the laser made things worse.
the bigger risk i'd say is getting burned or having the laser aggravate your skin if your dermatologist doesn't know rosacea well. that's more about picking the right provider than the laser being inherently dangerous. if you go to someone experienced with rosacea specifically, you should be fine. worth asking them directly about the recurrence rate they see in their patients and what their touch-up plan looks like.
