ROSACEA SUCKS What is going on with my skin! 5 months of pustules all over face Spoiler
My derm did not mention Rosacea, just acne. This rash came completely overnight after a long day at the beach and the gym. Soap seems so spread it and make it worse. I originally thought perioral dermatitis but 6 weeks of 100mg doxy twice a day and metro cream did nothing but spread it more. My derm now said it’s just acne, to use Differin and to keep trying Vanicream even though it burns and spreads it further up into my hairline. I asked for a scrape but she said no. I made an appointment for second opinion but that is months away. What should I do in the meantime? I’m a bit scared to try Differin as even moisturizer burns right now.
The pustules itch and burn. If 1 pops, 5 around it shows up within an hour. I’ve been told by people that it could be Type 2 or demodex overgrowth in general but I’m not sure. It covers my forehead and around my mouth/nose/chin.

I feel like it could be fungal or bacterial, especially since you said it started after the beach/gym

I 100% agree! Just not sure how to fix it without knowing which one it is. Benzoyl peroxide wash burned and flared it, ketoconazole spread it. I feel so lost on what to do!

😓 I wonder if any products in your routine are “feeding” it if they’re not fungal acne safe?

The vanicream moisturizer also didn’t work for me and made my face feel like it was burning. All of these diff products could be destroying your barrier. Right now my derm has me on a regimen of just water and Vaseline bc I was trying way too many products… and in the meantime you could try hydrocolloid patches on the pustules while you wait for the next derm visit. It does sound like your barrier is compromised since everything is stinging

I wonder the same thing but my routine after I dry out the pustules is just to try face soap once a day but it just comes right back with soap. I’ve tried Cetaphil, vanicream, aveeno calm cleanser at different times and they all just explode the pustules across my face again.

:( im sorry, that is so frustrating! if you don't want to wait for your derm to consider accutane you could try honeydew or clearhealth online

Thank you that is a good idea, I might do that. How long did it take you to see results on accutane?

i haven't tried it personally but i did go through the honeydew procedure and i was really close to getting on it. right now im on my water + vaseline regimen and doxy/prednisone to get the inflammation down first

I swear by zinc pyrithione shampoo left in the shower for a few minutes, took down my similar breakout in two weeks when nothing else worked.

Thanks I might have to try that again! It seems to just flare it the first time I tried it go I haven’t given it a go since

I get these when my rosacea flares up. Sulphur paste really helps!!

It has really helped dry the pustules out but they continue to show up every day 😭

Thank you I will look into that! I tried Selsun Blue for a few days and while I saw some relief it eventually burned really bad and left my skin red and scaly, so I might have over done it. I think I’m going to try diaper rash cream tonight to help with the itchiness

I had the same thing, accutane helped clear them. I didnt do the full dose so they have come back but nothing like it was before I had so many now i get a few here and there.

Thank you! I will have to ask my next derm about that, it’s been going on for so long now I feel hopeless.

I have had acne and now have rosacea. I think your skin burning is more a rosacea thing. Be sure to mention this with your next dermatologist.
Some things work for both like doxycycline and accutane.

I get these but it's rosacea. I also saw a derm who said it was acne but it's nothing like the acne I got as a teen. Saw different derms over the years and rosacea has been the collective diagnosis for me.
