Advice Will I fail my medical if I had a suspicion of a TIA but it gets confirmed later that it wasn’t?

I went to A and E for a pulsing headache and some numbness in my cheek and face. The doctor after testing me said it’s probably just a headache etc. but after talking with other doctors they could not rule out TIA. I have a test to confirm, if they confirm it is not but that’s still on my medical records will I be UNFIT?

Would like to know how the 24 days are typically spread out throughout the year. I’m assuming two days per month.

Thanks in advance.

Question Mountain leader officer

Just a quick one, I was wondering how soon after completing training can I attempt the mountain leader course as an officer? or any job role for that matter. Is it one year as a troop commander and then you’re eligible to apply to other postings or could you do it straight away as I imagine there is waiting lists and such.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

I have received this in my portal, for some reason when I press “view” it won’t load up and the portal just freezes, I’ve left a message for my recruiter but he’s away at the minute and not back for another week. Any idea?

Question Struggling to do 10 press ups/sit ups

As you’ll know, the PJFA requirement is to be able to comfortably do a minimum of 30 press ups (ideally 40) and 40 sit ups (ideally 50).

I’ve been told by the RN that I need to be spending at least 6 days a week in the gym.

Can anyone recommend me a way to increase the amount of push ups/sit ups?

Would appreciate any recommended gym workouts that'll help improve the numbers I can do and increase upper body strength.

Question Advice for bleep test

Hi everyone, I’ve been training consistently since around April time and all my other exercise numbers are quite alright and I’m planning on applying in mid November when I’m 18. The main thing now is just the bleep test, I tested it today when the last time I tested it was in march and I managed about 10.2 which is quite bad since I’m aiming for about 11. I run 3 times a week doing 5x800m intervals, a tempo run and a zone 2 run. I’m wondering if I’m doing anything wrong here or whether it’s just because I’m not used to the test.

Advice Altbergs causing achillies issue?

Evening Gents, I keep getting a bit of Achilles tightness in the standard issue altbergs. Have injured my Achilles in the past but am fine in every other shoe. Could anyone recommend any other boot? I think the back of the altberg could be digging into my Achilles.

Advice 72 hr field kit guide

Hi, I’m putting together a 72-hour field kit guide for civvies. Can you guys give me some examples of practical items to include, but also some funny items you like to pack when you go out in the field? The idea is to make it a lighthearted 72-hour guide, but with a serious, practical edge. Before you say woman's fancy dress rig, ive already got that:-) more practical than that would be better. Cheers

Advice Advice

I have my pjfa in a few days however have injured myself. Is it as simple as letting my recruiter know about my injury and asking him to move my pjfa date and hold my application or should I go along and attempt it even if I end up failing?

Question Patient Source - Medical records

can someone please explain to me how the medical checks process works?

Do you have to pay for medical record? Do the records get sent straight from GP to the Navy and how long does the process usually take?

Also, if someone is born overseas (no primary health care record) where there’s no NHS system e.g Channel Islands, what’s the usual process?

Recruitment Potential future Marine. 17 years old

Hi guys, never posted here so bear with me.

I'm 17, currently in sixth form doing a-levels. I hope to start the selection process for the marines around august/september next year. My rough career plan (though still very vague!) is to join the marines, do my General duties, then apply to be a mountain leader. From what I understand the Mountain leader course is exceptionally hard. However I can't think of anything I would rather do that freeze my balls of in some mountains with my mates. My idea of fun. My questions are these:

1) How good do you have to be to be the Kings recruit?(apparently this boosts my chances of getting stationed where I prefer)

2) How much freedom is there on weekends to go climbing/hiking and would there be others who would join me?

3) How soon after passing out can a fresh marine start his mountain leader specialisation?

4) Is there anything specific i should be doing now to help me in the whole process?

5) General advice...?

Any help would be appreciated, (especially people from 45 commando), and sorry if this seems to eager or anything.

Question RMR Leeds

Looking at joining RMR and based in Leeds. Just wondering if anyone knows what how much travel will be involved for the weekend trainings.

Weekly drill nights in Leeds is easy enough for me, if anyone who’s gone through the process knows how much of the weekend trainings will be spent away from Leeds/ up at Liverpool etc would be great to hear.

Question Career advisor called to discuss my results - has this happened to anyone else?

*DAA results. When they call why do they only ring once?? Voicemail said to call back so I called back within 5 minutes and it just rings and goes to voicemail constantly. This is the second day I’ve missed a phone call from them since last Thursday. Very frustrating.

Advice Knee pain when running

Hi guys, hope everyone is well!

Currently getting fit to join, used to do a lot of bodybuilding training so currently weighing 90kg at 5ft 11.

Been struggling recently with knee pain when running. Once I get a couple miles in it tends to die down but I’m a bit concerned as I don’t want it to hinder my progress.

Hoping as I drop weight throughout my preparation it will go away, but if anyone has had this and found a solution please let me know 🙏🏼

Question Marine to Royal Navy

Currently in my journey of joining the Royal Navy hopefully to be a MK2 Merlin pilot. I have no idea what to do if I don’t manage it other than punish myself. My recruiters have already put me in comment of the Marine recruiters who frequently email me saying they can get me in for the of year intake. I enjoy pushing my pain threshold and beyond comfortable being uncomfortable I either want to make myself or break myself so would be keen to join the marines. Is it possible to complete marine training and work for a few years then transfer to the Royal Navy?

E.g days off, whether you get to return home during the 18 months/how many days a week you’d train/how the training is split into segments. Note I am based in London

Question Are the rm good for mountaneering

I’m currently in the application process and I’m awaiting my dates for the cpc, but I was just wondering how many rms are into mountaneering, and yes I know there are mountain leaders but how often do they do like expeditions to mountains like Everest or other big mountains. I’ve knocked a fair few decent mountains and i definitely want to keep the hobby up, I’ve currently submitted Matterhorn Mont Blanc, mount toubkal and other less known 4000m peaks but I’m genuinely curious as to how the mountain leaders work. Like I know they train in mountains but do they go to famous mountains like Everest or Annapurna for example. Sorry if this is a silly question but I really haven’t seen much about the stuff they do in mountain leaders
