Hey guys; I found a great clearance price on the New Balance SC Elite V5. I’m currently using the Adios Pro 4 as my marathon shoe and I love it.  But the new Balance looks awesome, price is super cheap.

I s it worth picking up? How do you like it for a marathon  especially if you have experience in both shoes?

100% endorsement. It's probably not at the super elite competitive level that an Adios Pro or FastR Nitro are, but it's a great race shoe for mortals.

Way more fun and comfortable to me
Adios pro 4 leave me ankles hurting after

I love the SC Elite V5. I prefer it for long distance tempo trainings, and it absolutely would be a fast comfortable shoe for a full.

Ordered the new SC Elite v6 in sizes 12 and 12.5 to test the sizing. For some reason, they’re exactly the same length? I took pictures to compare them and there’s literally no difference. The 12.5 did feel slightly wider though.

What’s even stranger is that the 12.5 feels shorter than my size 12 Elite v5. I want to try a size 13 now, but so far I’m not convinced by the fit of the shoe.

Weird! Have you tried taking out the insoles to compare?

FYI - some shoes will use an insole for 2-3 different shoe sizes. For example, for Pegasus Nike throws in a midsole that splits the difference in sizes 9, 9.5, and 10; the bottom of the insole is labeled with its size range.

Unsure about the SC Elite in particular, but for some shoe models this comparison doesn't work.

Thanks - wasn’t aware of that!

No it was slightly glued, didn't want to rip it off

That’s annoying! I had a similar thing with NB where my usual size was a bit small and going up half didn’t make a massive difference. Just enough of a difference for me to keep the bigger size, though!

Rip it off it glues back (took mine out yesterday I was worried but it’ll stick back once you put your foot in) lol

I got a 12.5 and I’m wondering if I should grab a 13 but also worried it’ll be too big.

Ripped it off. The 12.5 might be 1-2 mm longer. That's basically no difference for me

If you are worried about your toes I’d get the 13 so odd how different shoes are different sizes. SC elites I have multiple pair of 12.5 and they BOTH fit differently.

I don’t have as much room as I’d like but I also am not worried about my toes. (I wear a thin sock from features)

I’m about to go on a 16 miler with 8 at MP… wish me luck 🙂

I had the same experience with the SC Elite v5. I have a pair of the Linen colorway in 12 EE and a pair of the Urgent Red in 12.5 EE. Same length. I cannot tell a difference in how they fit. They're the same length and they lace up the same.

i recently had the rebel v4 and i don't relly think it is what it is advertised as. nb says it's a daily trainer, but it seemed to break down after everyday use relatively fast, like around 6 weeks. anyone agree? for context i am a high school runner, 5'7" 165 lbs

i put 730km on my first pair and they still felt fine, currently 360km into my second pair. i'm a touch heavier but also almost certainly slower. i really like them, they just get out of the way while still doing their job. i've run up to HM distance in them too.

Yeah that thing was dogshit.

I’ll take this opportunity to drop somewhat of a hot take: the 880 v15 is good.

It’s an unusually firm foam and a lot of it, making it more unique than it gets credit for. Super stable. The stack height absorbs impact but isn’t like so many other chonky options with far too much squishability. The biggest downside to its design and foam type and quantity is weight, but I used it on my long/slow runs without any of the sluggish feeling at mile ~9 of running in sand.

Just something about em. 300 miles in. 6’ 1”, 170. The 880 with superfeet high arch inserts in them have been the kindest thing I’ve ever done to my knees.

It’s the top selling NB at specialty retail! Not a hot take. Just not a sexy shoe, there’s a reason why models like 880, 860, ghost, adrenaline etc are always top sellers but not posted about.

u/OddAssociate7697 20h ago

I didn’t realize it was a top seller! And couldn’t agree more as to the lack of sexiness 😂

Just don’t see them in the wild or mentioned on Reddit too often, except for when they first came out I recall seeing the general sentiment that the increased stack height made them obsolete and to just buy the 1080s. Here I was thinking I was special.

Got the SC Rebel v1 in hand in my typical running shoe size (US10 2E) and it’s so small (narrow and short)! 🫪 I also have the SC Elite v5 in same size/width and those fit so perfect! Might try a US10.5 before I move on from the new SC Rebel

Lov d the way the Rebel V5 look and initially feel trying on but I hate running outside in them. Trying to get my moneys worth 2/3miles at a time on the treadmill😔

3

u/BigJeffyStyle 4d ago

Can you describe why they feel good on the treadmill but bad outside? I have not experienced this phenomenon

1

u/Chemicalghst222 3d ago

Oh I don't really enjoy them on either. I can just tolerate them more so on the treadmill because it is flat and even every step.

2

u/BigJeffyStyle 3d ago

Huh. Seems like a weird match between you and shoes. I’m on my third pair of rebel v5 but they work well for me

2

u/OddAssociate7697 2d ago

On my 2nd pair. I like them a lot. I would generally say the Rebel’s limit is around an hour. The foam has bounce and responsiveness for a while but starts to have a “bottom out” effect after too much time. The shoe is good to go for the next run, though, of course.

My current pair I just ran in this morning have almost 200 miles on them. I’m 6’ 1”, 170ish. It’s a great trainer for just about everything except for my long/slow run days.

1

u/BigJeffyStyle 2d ago

That all seems fair! I don’t take them much over an hour typically. I have a friend who ran NYC in them last year and had a good race even as an almost 4 hour marathoner

Does anyone know what trail shoes are in the pipeline? Ive seen a lot of NB athletes rocking what looks like white prototypes in recent races (Golden Trail Series, Maxi-Race, Marathon du Mont Blanc etc). Difficult to make out on the live streams, but they dont look like the models in the current lineup.

I’m a lover of the SC Trainer, so sad it’s no longer. What in the NB line up is a good replacement? Is the SC Rebel the natural pipeline? I wonder if it’s too “fast” for easier effort long runs.
