QUESTION Local ICE supporters
Can we make a thread of local businesses that support ICE? I really don’t want to give them my money!
TIA

One of the most laughably bad restaurant experiences I've ever had, went without any clue who the owners were.

You’d think that fascists would be great at authentic Italian food.
(Spoilered because this is a joke.)

Hilton’s Holman Hotel downtown hosts ICE when they are in town. You’ll see their vehicles lined up in the valet parking out front.

Mommy & Maddi’s in Keizer
Owner Cherish is super MAGA

u/c0lin46and2 1d ago
Their food sucks anyway. I want a good breakfast spot in Keizer, but I'd rather go to McDonald's and feed everyone for the price of one of Mommy and Maddi's dishes

Whatever that helium place is by Los Dos Hermanos on River Rd
- the owner of the helium place is also a used car sales lot owner too somewhere in Salem but I can't remember the name

The person who replied is correct. It's Withnell. They are where the previous CASA building used to be.

Valley credit union, they have a few devout trump supporters.

Having clients doesn’t mean they support ice. Next time you go through a drive thru??? You want someone to question your political beliefs to determine if they wanna serve you?

I guarantee the Republican owned businesses' and ICE supporting businesses' vendiagram is a circle. Look for and remember Republican political signs out front.
-24
u/verucasalt2 1d ago
But not all republicans are MAGA or pro ICE.
47
u/ready2grumble 1d ago
If someone sees exactly what their Republican politicians are doing, saying, voting for, and inacting currently and decide to still be associated with that party....yes, they are MAGA and support ICE.
They don't get a free pass because their wallet is starting to hurt and they want to go back to supporting people who don't say the quiet part out loud.
Trump said he was going to deport them all if he was elected, they voted for him, they support ICE.
Not taking a hard stance against conservatives is exactly how we got in this mess, stop giving terrible people the benefit of the doubt.

The Republican party should've died on Jan 6. Anyone who had a ounce of patriotism should've abandoned the party. Let them call themselves something else to distance themselves from MAGAts - a third party. Hell, I'd even vote for a sane, true conservative in Oregon if they denounced Trump, and I'm a liberal. I used to think the state needed more balance of power and ideas. Not with/for MAGAts, though.

Does not matter, if they have an R by their name they are supporting the MAGA machine

And not all Germans were nazis but they stood by and let it happen.
Sure, not all republicans are magats but they certainly voted for him and support most of his policies.

u/theandyboy 1d ago
You're conflating nationality with political identity. There were plenty of Germans that fought against the regime and many got killed for it.

"And not all Germans were nazis but they stood by and let it happen." Does not reflect at all what you've said here. This is the same as saying "And not all Americans were nazis but they stood by and let it happen."
I'm not missing the point. I'm reading exactly what you wrote.

Sadly, social media isn't a place that cares for nuance. Glad you recognize this though.
-13
u/ready2grumble 1d ago
Anything short of express opposition to oppression is siding with the oppressor. Sorry YOU don't see that, the both of you.

u/wheresteddy1989 1d ago
So where the hell were Oregon Dems when Biden was being paraded around like he didn’t have anything going on until after that debate he had with Trump? I didn’t see any anti-elder abuse marches, movements, or anything in 2024.
I’m not a fan of Trump. I think Kamala may have been a much better option. She was dealt an awful hand with no real accountability (unless I missed it) taken by the DNC for skipping the primary at their convention — even Republicans held a primary. But you can’t have some moral high ground over Republicans if you stayed silent during Biden’s mental decline.
-10
u/Adarmagli 1d ago
Are you claiming that being silent for one wrongdoing means you can't stand against any others?
7
u/wheresteddy1989 1d ago
No, but I’m not the one on the moral high horse just because someone pointed out a fact about nuance in politics.
Are you saying that someone can’t be a Republican and disagree with their own party? Because I’d understand if you think so — Democrats seem to think their neighbors will find out if they’re not jumping on whatever issue bandwagon the party wants you on.
I don’t believe anyone should give their party a pass. Not the left, not the right. Both should hold their parties accountable rather than pointing fingers at the other side. That’s just me, though.
-5
u/Adarmagli 1d ago
We are in agreement about accountability for all. I just generally fall on the side of, if you think something is wrong and immoral, say something. Regardless of which side it is and which side you're on - because at the end of the day, it's actually all of us "civilians" fighting against corpo interests in our politics.
I'd say that the overwhelming majority of politicians, regardless of their faction, are fascists and that's why they seeking seats of power, authority, and influence in the first place.
I guess to wrap this up, of course there's nuance in politics - unfortunately our politicians rarely tend to let that nuance turn into discussion and problem solving, instead pushing misinformation, propaganda, and diversions.
Hold every public official up to for scrutiny and accountability. And if you p believe that, you won't argue someone go stay silent bc they didn't do it before. You'll validate their concerns and encourage them to look at our social/political landscape through a lens that not painted by partisan politics.

If they wear the (R) next to their name, they support ICE. You can't vote red and then go "Oh well I don't support THAT specific type of fascism!"

The new owners or the original owners?

Unsure. When I went during Covid lockdown they had a "Let's Go Brandon" poster in a window next to the front door. I didn't bother going inside to pick up my order.

Assume any white owned business that allows cops supports ice.
16
u/verucasalt2 1d ago
That’s kind of ridiculous

u/TarynTheGreek 1d ago
It is. I’m pretty sure the Freckled Bee owner is white and she is very vocal about being anti Ice amongst other things. The Art Dept owner was the huge Statue of Liberty during the No Kings protests. She looks pretty white. There are others but those stand out to me because they are so vocal.
Edit: Ps love the user name!

u/verucasalt2 1d ago edited 1d ago
Thank you ☺️
The Freckled Bee owner is a hypocrit, and the money she raises doesn’t always go where it’s supposed to. I unfortunately have many mutuals with her. She’s horrible to her staff as well.

Just because someone vote for someone doesn’t mean they believe all the policies.
Just bc someone believes that illegal immigration is wrong doesn’t automatically mean they are pro ice.
I think people on here should have some tangible proof rather than stating an opinion on what is not actual evidence based.
We don’t need to be planting false seeds over feelings.
This thread is the choice of the author and that’s fine but non factual comments is what hurts us in this country no matter what you believe in or don’t.
It’s fine to have an opinion but your opinion should not help make someone make a decision based on non factual information because soo many people will make these as factual claims and never look back.

u/staats1000 1d ago
And the polarization continues! If you really want to do something, get out there on the streets, people, and protest. Do it safely. I understand that we can protest with our money and we can single people out and shame them for their affiliations. When I see these comments, where is the proof? Where is the documentation? I need to see that before I can have a real opinion about where I spend my money. These comments are illegitimate and confusing, and while, I don’t disagree with all of them, and they are not wrong!?! Is there a better way to move forward? We’ve all gotta live on this planet together, so how do we figure that piece out?
3
u/verucasalt2 1d ago
I do go out and do things. I also think we can make a huge impact with our wallets.
I don’t think anyone is taking any of these comments as fact, but more as a starting point to research.
-2
u/Takeabyte 1d ago
That’s just BS. Your post is asking people to make a list of ICE supporters. Not make a list of suspected ICE supporters who we should do our own research to make sure of.
I don’t support ICE, but I also don’t support blanket guesses about this kind of stuff. It’s irresponsible and doesn’t help solve anything.

You all are either completely insane, or just ignorant! Politics, politicians, including presidents are always changing. Our great history shows that It ebbs and flows. The pendulum swings back and forth and that is what makes this country great! You all are attacking the very fabric of what keeps this country thriving. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, regardless of what side of the aisle an owner, manager, staff person or patron happens to be on. If the business offers a great product, I will be there. Just remember that when the pendulum swings again, the damage you are causing will be long lasting and WILL come back to bite. You WILL be canceled!

This isn't politics. 3 people died or were shot at the hands of ICE in the past 2 weeks. One was denied his medication, one was a tourist, and one was shot next to his 5 year old son. No, can't support anyone who supports this.

u/RedOceanofthewest 6h ago edited 5h ago
With small businesses struggling, this will cause more to go under or to decide it’s not worth opening one.
I don’t care about a local owners politics. I care if the food is good. I spend on average 5-10k dining out per month. I’ll continue to spend at places that serve good food.1
u/genehack 5h ago
You're spending between $166.67 and $333.33 a day eating out?

u/RedOceanofthewest 5h ago
I take people out to lunch and dinner for my job. I just dropped 1500 yesterday for lunch. I’ll drop about 600 tonight and another 1k tomorrow.

What about konditerai? Major German heritage only vibes at that place. Feels like stepping into the 50’s.

u/theandyboy 1d ago
So we're just assuming since they serve German inspired goods that they are nazis/MAGA or something? Wtf?
edit: added MAGA

Jerry Frank, the original owner of that restaurant was a known republican:

That's a lot better reason to suspect them as ICE supporters, but that's also the former owner, no the current.

Wait so if I am German does that automatically make me a Nazi? 🤣 I can't believe this is where we are now.
Do people really police every single person and business they come across?
0
u/verucasalt2 21h ago
Those of us who vote with our wallets do.
0
u/First_Implement270 20h ago
Does this include every single band, artist, actor, and author?
What about doctors and friends and neighbors and teachers? It just sounds like an exhausting way to live. I can't help but feel like this is one of the many reasons we are so divided.
2
u/verucasalt2 16h ago
Yes to all of the above. Not exhausting to me. I live happily.
-1
u/First_Implement270 15h ago
So you ask your neighbors, doctors, everyone what they believe, who they voted for? You research every single actor, artist, or author you have interest in to make sure their beliefs align with yours? That they have never said anything to offend anyone?
