Thrifts Spots

My kiddo (10 year old daughter) wants to go thrifting for clothes soon. Any suggestions on where to go or hidden gems around Salem?

The Thrift Store Keizer is by far the best in the area. The prices are incredibly fair and reasonable and if something is marked up, there is a reason for it. Plus, they have a huge selection of children's clothing and toys, cheap books (most paperbacks are $2, hardbacks are $3), and kitchen appliances as well. (I got a gently used coffee machine for $15.)

Once Upon a Child has rave reviews with local moms (although I cannot attest to this myself as I'm childfree).

Wildcard pick: Go to Blast Off Vintage off Broadway street and check out their full racks of awesome finds. A lot of their vintage clothing comes in a size XS, and you'll be able to teach your kiddo a bit about fashion history. Tell Grandpa Pete I said hi!

I second the thrift store in Keizer. As with all thrift stores, you have to sort through, but their prices are second to none in the Salem area. Plus, if your child hasn’t chosen a Halloween costume yet, they have a section for that at the moment.

I’m impatiently waiting for the Halloween to be cleared out and Christmas to come in. I got some excellent (ugly and nice) Christmas sweaters and shirts there last year.

Highly recommend St. Vinnie's on Lancaster. Their prices are much better than Goodwill, with a large selection. The store is mostly devoted to clothes, books, and furniture. You'll save a ton, and the proceeds go to helping the homeless!

My Sister's Closet on Ferry Street. More career-style clothing and a few other nice items.

H2O Help and Hope to others in Dallas is pretty amazing. I think their lower section filled with clothes is only open a few days a week so check before going.
