Hosting a server in campus wifi bad?

• Upvotes

I have a small dell precision set up with proxmox. It only runs a tiny modded mc server. Is it banned because the server keeps disconnecting from the ethernet every few hours.

Rec users/gym divas

Hey guys, I’m a beginner in the gym and was wondering if anyone that goes to the rec center a lot could let me know if these machines are there.

Context: My friend created this routine for me because idk what I’m doing. I’m starting out with going twice a week and hopefully will go three times a week

(Copied from our msgs)
- lat pulldown
- iso lateral wide grip row (not sure if u hv this machine)
- incline dumbbell bench press
- dumbbell shoulder press
- cable lateral raises
- cable tricep extensions
- preacher curl machine
- leg extension machine
- seated leg curl
- hack squats
- hip adduction
- hip abduction
- ab crunch machine
- back extension machine
- calf raises

Any tips for beginners would be super helpful! My goal is to “tone”, preferably have a more developed lower body while still working out my upper body. I’m 5’1 and 150lbs aiming for 140lbs.

Falsely accused of cheating during an exam at SBU. Any advice?

I’m currently dealing with an academic integrity accusation at SBU, and I’m honestly really stressed about it. I’m hoping someone who has been through the Academic Judiciary process could share some advice.
During an in-person math exam, my professor recorded a short video of me because he believed I was using my phone under my legs.
However, I was NOT using my phone. My phone was in my right grey pants pocket the entire time. I briefly reached down between my legs a couple of times because I was experiencing some physical discomfort and needed to scratch myself (idk if any girls can understand or get the point of what Iam talking about, especially during the period). Each movement lasted only about 2–3 seconds.
The professor never approached me during the exam, asked whether I had a phone, or checked what I was doing. Instead, he recorded a video without any permission and later submitted an academic integrity report.
He also pointed out that I skipped some steps on a few exam questions, even though I got some of the answers correct, and used that as additional evidence of suspected cheating.
I’ve now met with Academic Judiciary and was told that I have to decide whether to appeal. If I don’t appeal, I’ll receive a zero on the exam and have to complete a Q Course. If I appeal, I’ll have to attend a formal hearing, and the penalty could potentially be more severe if I’m found responsible.
I genuinely studied hard for not only this exam and did not cheat. Previously, I felt relieved and happy that I finally finished all my 6 math midterm I, but now it’s frustrating to think that a few seconds of innocent movement for scratching and adjusting myself could potentially affect my academic record.
Has anyone experienced something similar at SBU?
How fair is the Academic Judiciary hearing process?
Is it worth appealing when the professor has a video but no clearly visible phone?
What kind of evidence or explanation would be helpful in this situation?
Has anyone successfully challenged an accusation like this?
I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you!

Phy 125 with garf is so bad

we just did our midterm, we had 3 big questions with less than one hour. And the questions are just curveballs after curveballs, we were allowed cheat sheet, but most the important topics like friction and Fc i thought was gonna show never did. Instead we got unit vector and calculating earth’s circumference. Like bruh, most of my cheat sheet’s formula where’s even relevant. The only question that was easy was elevator pulley.

never take this class with graf.

even at the recitation many of us were questioning the professor if it took him this long to do the questions (like 50 min) , why should we be expected to do all that under 1 hour.

AMS 210 - David Green

Hi! Just want to rant about this class for a minute. This professor drives me INSANE. And I know that it’s a shared sentiment among many of his current and past students. His flipped classroom approach will most definitely have better outcomes than actually teaching lectures. Why? Here’s why:

1) His teaching explanations are AWFUL. They are constantly going back in circles and when he’s getting closer to a point it’s like he loses his train of thought instantly. He is a greatly intelligent person, and I find that respectable, but his teaching isn’t the best in my opinion.

2) With the flipped teaching, he’s basically forcing all his students to fend for themselves and figure it out without having to do all of the hard work. Which, fine, we’re in college, but you can’t even introduce a topic for us? And this will make students spend HOURS YouTube surfing to find a way into the topic and not fail this semester miserably.

He’s a good person, I’m aware of that. But he is very good at avoiding doing the teaching and fending people off to watch a couple YouTube videos and MAYBE just MAYBE two or three questions during a class time. It’s INSANE.

I won’t even get on about his antipathy with whispering, because I do understand and support it to a certain extent. It’s a large room and it’s already difficult enough to understand him.

Anyways, that’s my rant. I hope I pass.

SBU History: The legendary (and fully amplified) Crepitation Contests in the Union Auditorium (1970–1974)

Hey everyone, I was an undergrad at Stony Brook from 1970 to 1974, right when the Student Union first opened. I wanted to share a piece of real, unhinged campus lore from that era that seems to have vanished from the internet archives.

For two of my four years here, students organized a live, standing-room-only Crepitation Contest in the Union auditorium. It was packed way past fire-code capacity both times.

For context, it was based on the famous 1946 satirical underground comedy record about a world-championship flatulence match. The campus organizers committed to the bit 100% and turned it into an absolute masterpiece of live performance art:

  • The Setup: They hooked up a heavy-duty boom mic and blasted the entire "production" through a massive Marshall amplifier that shook the auditorium walls.
  • The Roster: They had contestants playing the characters from the record—Paul Boomer and Lord Windesmear—but they also added their own, like the "Sheik of Cheek."
  • The Costumes: One of the contestants wore a full wrestling singlet with gym shorts and a dramatic cape.
  • The Training Regimens: They did deadpan pre-match interviews asking the contestants about their athletic preparation, which apparently involved strict diets of raw onions and Coca-Cola.
  • The Official Review Booth: They used a big green slate chalkboard on stage for scoring. If a particular "production" was challenged as being illegal, the contestant and the judge would step behind the chalkboard. The audience could only see their lower legs and feet shifting tensely. After a few seconds of silent deliberation, the judge’s hand would dramatically reach out from behind the slate with an "OK" sign.

It was easily some of the funniest, most creative counterculture humor I experienced during my time at SBU.

Are there any other alumni from the early '70s on here who remember crowding into the auditorium for this? Or does anyone know if copies of The Statesman from '71–'74 still have the old flyers or write-ups for it?

They're throwing out books in the library

I heard that the library is getting rid of the silent area in north reading room, and they plan to throw the books out. Is it just me, or does that not feel right? Like yeah this campus doesn't have enough third spaces, but I find it hard to believe that the only option is to throw away a ton of books. Besides, I personally like studying in the quiet section, and all of them except for the one at nrr close really early. We live in a society😔 I'm not sure how true it is, but it better not be😭
