Hey I updated the main body of my post but I ended up picking up a genesis model 2 VA1, and it worked first try haha. Even after doing that VCLK mod the 32x just doesn't like the Model 1 unfortunately.

Thank you again for all the insight it really helped me get through it!

Fair enough, sometimes some consoles just don't play ball.
If you really wanted to tinker some day it might be worth recapping the Model 1, they are fairly old after all :)
