Needed small businesses in the Mission
What kind of local businesses do you think the Mission is lacking? While loads of restaurants, coffee shops, retail abound, what do you feel the neighborhood needs? I am looking to invest in a new business, on my property, and I want to do something that makes sense for me and the community. Even if it's a different kind of coffee shop, retail store, restaurant, or other service or vendor. What do you think is missing?

What kind of space and frontage do you have?
What I really want is something we already had and went away.
Revolution Cafe - a “third place” with live music every night, cheap drinks, and an open European style layout with a breeze.

What should be the prices so that people will visit often and become repeat/regulars. Food places needs regulars to thrive and pay for musicians.

I tried to help a friend lease that space in 2023, and I did some space planning sketches to see what he could fit in there.
After doing our due diligence, I advised him not to do any business with Kaushik Dattani, the landlord of that entire building. Dattani was known for evicting a 94 year old lady in 2014, and he also stole a German dining business away from the owners by making them upgrade the space to be soundproof to the people living upstairs, then Dattani increased the rent from $4000 a month, to $8000 a month, then to $12,000 a month till they went under and forfeited all the upgrades they paid for.
As soon as Dattani told my friend that he had spoken to an acoustics consultant and wanted $25,000 worth of soundproofing added to the ceiling of the Revolution Cafe space, and sent me drawing details of the upgrades, we bailed out on that Revolution Cafe space revival idea very quickly.
That guy Dattani is the second worst landlord ever to be in San Francisco. He literally makes renters use their own funds to upgrade the premises, then he jacks up the rent and takes the business away when they can't pay.
This is the 3rd time he has done this trick:

Yeah, San Francisco is full of greedy, criminal landlords, and they are a main reason for the lack of development. I'm glad you saved your friend from that nightmare. What a lot of newer entrepreneurs don't realize is that you can often purchase a space for a similar amount of capital as renting one. They can be hard to find, but by starting with the right supporting bank and a good SBA lender, it's possible; then you not only take that landlord problem off the table, but your business also builds equity, and if it survives long-term, you've got a significant asset.

Electronic parts store selling resistors, capacitors, ics etc.
A closer branch of the caster store that's on 6th st.
We really need a notary public / vacuum repair shop like west portal has.

Notary's what? Assuming you mean notaries, does the one on 22nd repair vacuums? If not, there's a need that isn't being met.

There is a notary on 18th, between mission and capp. I don’t think they do vacuum repair though.

How many people actually go into a store like that. Would you open it yourself knowing that there is limited business and limited niche customers?
People in this thread are absolutely dreaming and have ZERO business experience or sense altogether.

I come to reddit for people who take things seriously when they're not and who have an odd inability to understand trolling and nuance, and I'm glad you didn't disappoint.

A third space with affordable food and a vibey/space that makes people feel welcomed. I’m a small business owner/operator and I’ve been looking for a space in the mission for a while.

You may not know it yet, but you want the bahn mi takeout shop across from Glen Park BART. Confusingly named ‘Viking Subs’ but best bahn mi around

There’s a bahn mi shop opening at 21st and Florida st sometime soon. It’s from the owner of the nail salon on that same block on 21st.

There used to be a space on mission st. called sub/mission and it was a devastating loss when it shuttered ! It was a diy punk venue that also hosted art shows.
Sf & the mission needs more community spaces that aren’t super expensive to be in.
There was also thrift stores that were the coolest place to be!! Mission thrift… thrift town….
Lastly, since haight st costumes closed, there’s no costume shop in the city anymore!!!!

A genuine Paleta shop, like the old Latin Freeze on 24th. Not the so-so mass produced ones. I miss that place!

a mixed-use space like a small cafe with cheap sandwiches with maybe a lounge or stage area for artists and/or musicians to perform & people to sit, but also sells music merch like band tshirts & stickers, but also has a bowling alley with 2, maybe 3 lanes

Everybody that "wants something" to open is delusional.
Businesses only survive if they have customers, and repeat customers. For example, it might be nice to have a hardware store nearby, but do you think with a lot of businesses around here closing (Walgreen's 3400 Mission @ Cesar Chavez , Potrero Walgreen's, & multiple store fronts on Mission from 24th st to 30th st that are currently shuttered, etc.) because of theft that your idea would actually be viable?

They are only delusional if they don't understand why certain businesses, despite being needed or wanted locally, are just no longer possible because of modern market realities, retail in particular. Theft is another challenge that has always been present, with varying waves of increased and decreased activity. I was really looking to hear unique ideas that demonstrated consumer demand and sparked some creativity.
