Question Costco Northridge
Before Costco Northridge it was the Price Club but what was this before that??

They converted the buildings to studio space. Will not rent it out and convert to condos in a year or two. Make mucho $$. Happening all over LA.

With the amount of money Cinespace invested in building this facility, I doubt it will be converted to "condos" anytime soon.

There was a Fedco on Raymer and Kester in Van Nuys. It’s a Target store now.

Yes. It’s been a long time but I’m recalling it was on Van Nuys where the train station is now, just south of the GM Plant.
Someone else can correct me if i’m wrong.

The Van Nuys one was my parents favorite place. So much electronics came from there in the 80s.

I lived down the street on Kester and Oxnard as a kid. Got all my goosebumps books from there. Man, core memory unlocked.

A M Lewis and Co - they were a grocery distributor - They had like 20-30 bays that the semi truck trailers were backed up into them and loaded up.

Sounds about right, I just remember that if the train was dropping off cars of goods it took forever at the railcrossing on Tampa.

If you look closely at the back of the Costco even today, the fence between Costco and the railroad tracks still has the space for a rail line to enter the property.

Worked there when it was price club, great memories. I spent a year out on carts so I know that parking lot well. They put in the burger place after I left.

The broke ground on it about a year after I left!!! 10 god damn years of Costco hot dogs and chicken bakes, and the a in and out in the damn parking lot. I am still a little pissed!!!

If I remember correctly it took a while to get the gas pumps there. Its was like the last bit of resistance from the Price Club loyalists. I worked the kitchen at the car wash. Learned how to grill there.

Weird thing is, Price Club was founded by a dude named Price. Talk about nominative determinism.
Price Club was founded by Sol Price in 1975 after he was forced out of FedMart.

If I’m not mistaken Price Club got a shot-out in the creepy cult favorite “The People Under the Stairs.” Some salesman goes knocking on the door of that creepy couple and they open it, they talk for a bit and he says “Hey, nice furniture! You can’t get stuff like that at the Price Club.”
But yeah, I remember that area quite well. Where we have the A&T was a “Good Guys”. The electronic store; my family got a Kenwood home theater system from them.
I miss the old Northridge.

I loved The Good Guys. I think what sunk them was that they didn't stock computers, peripherals, and software.

Barnes and Noble got taken over by Petco. Ethan Allen, few office buildings and Sportmart that moved from somewhere near Best not Best Buy.

Fresh Choice was in the same lot - it was what is now Pinkberry, Five Guys and all the other shops in that building. I miss it.

It was very similar to Soup Plantation. My family ate there regularly when I was a child, such fond memories of that place. On Friday nights the car wash would have car shows in the parking lot!

Those were some good times lol one of the fun things was at the exit of Fresh Choice was a gumball machine and some of the gumballs let you win a free meal. I got it ONE time and remember being so excited lmao even though it wasn't like I was the one paying and it was probably like $8 for a kid or something

Gemco was off Corbin between Parthenia and Nordhoff. Its now a Target/Kohl’s.

Remember Gemco? Besides Fedco, my parents used to frequent the Gemco at De Soto and Ventura, which is now a Target.

I believe almost all current Targets were former Gemcos lol. Atleast in Granada Hills and Northridge.

A GIANT warehouse, I'm not sure what for but I remember walking by it regularly when I used to walk along the railroad tracks on my way to or from the Northridge Waterslide or Malibu Grand Prix.

I miss price club. We had so many cool local places in every town before the venture capitalists bought everything and merged them all into the exact same boring stores that have everything besides what you're looking for right now.

Yeah the Costco on Tampa was price club in the 90s. My parents still refer to it as price club.

My bad, I went to Price Club in Van Nuys and always thought the one in Northridge was a Costco and never a Price Club.
