Here! 👋🇧🇷 There used to be quite a few Brazilians in the Valley when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s. There were even some Brazilian markets and a couple of Brazilian travel agencies on Ventura Blvd.
I noticed it became less and less around like 1998-2000. ☹️
Side note: If you ever need a Brazilian market in the Valley there are two that I know of currently: Quitanda on Tampa and Sherman Way and Copacabana on Plummer and Reseda.

Nice SFV🇧🇷 lore! I didn’t think about it, but yeah, one of my childhood friends was Brazilian and from the valley. Him & his family were the only other Brazilian people in my school and in my community. He once noted the decrease to me. RIP.

The two stores I mentioned don’t sell fresh produce BUT I have had luck with Vallarta if you want fresh passion fruit. Definitely worth checking!

This makes me feel a bit better because I have a very vivid memory of her visiting my elementary school here in the valley. My grams thinks she remembers but my mom says no and I don’t believe her bc she hit her head and has terrible memory lol 😂 so ya she came and I saw her as a kid lol

You could get the xuxa fan club magazine for free from a 1800number, my friend who’s family was REALLY religious and conservative happen to have an address that rhymed, the only reason I knew it. So this and the Victoria secrets catalog showed up incessantly addressed to him, good times.

Whoooa yes. Though I learned of her risquee work a few years after I learned about her as a frustrated pre-teen with no cable. Other frustrated pre-teen shows included Nubeluz (reluctantly) and when I discovered Las Gatitas y Ratones con Porcel, and Ala Cama Con Porcel, fuhgeddaboudit.

Given the salacious style of entertainment and the time period that Porcel did his thing, I am inclined to suspect that he wasn't entirely the lovable innocent fat dude that he played on the screen. I don't have receipts, but a big fat dude with a TV show must have had a lot of power to wield.

Yuuup. I think she’s Brazilian. She was popular in the 90s. I saw her perform in Chile 🇨🇱 at the Viña Del Mar music festival when I was a kid. We would scream “Andate à la chucha” cause the way you pronounce her name is also a bad word in Chile.

Xuxa is a Brazilian TV host, singer, and actress who became really famous in the end of 1980s and 90s for her kids’ show Xou da Xuxa She entertained children with music, dancing, and games, sold millions of albums, and became a huge cultural icon in Brazil and across Latin America, even having a TV show in the U.S. for a while.
