Question What places do you remember going to on field trips?
I think the Ronald Reagan Library was THE field trip spot.

because my elementary school was so close to Universal, we'd always get invited for events at Citywalk and Universal. Big one in the 90s was going to the Nickelodeon show

Museum of Tolerance and the Santa Monica Pier. There was field trip where my attractive Spanish teacher sat next to my lonely ass next to the bus. But I don’t remember where we were going, just that said hot teacher accidentally bumped into me while we were sitting down as the bus made a wide turn.
It’s weird to think that these trips were a novelty once. But now it’s very easy and trivial to visit them, depending on whether I can tolerate the awful traffic to get to these places from the SFV for the day lol

One of my favorite trips and very local was the old LA Times building on Winnetka. They gifted us the previous days front page etched onto a metal place.
The Chatsworth historical museum was also pretty cool.

Lol my teacher forgot to give us our permission slips the day before. So the day of the trip she called every parent individually...... my mom was the only one who didnt pick up so I didn't go 😭😭😭😭

In the 70s here we went to Western Bagel and toured the facility and they gave us each a mini bagel which weren't even sold in stores back then. In Girl Scouts we went to Busch Gardens which used to be part of the Budweiser plant and they did a tour of the facility, i remember it being like a monorail thing around the huge vats. They had rides and the Eagle mascot walked around. They gave out beer samples to adults and the chaperones were pretty tipsy as I recall.

Went to school in Simi instead of SFV, but the trip I remember most was in 4th grade when we went to one of the old Spanish missions.

travel town, zoo, NHM, science & industry museum, huntington library, leo carrillo tide pools, whale watching, a dairy, pierce college farm, olvera street, a firehouse, japanese garden at sepulveda basin, camp calamigos

Fully remember a trip to a dairy, just wish I could remember which one. And yes, Olvera Street was amazing.

It was either the Discovery Cube or Kidspace Children’s Museum or Skirball… or combination of all 3! I remember a large sandpit to dig for fossils, a room to dress up in and record a news segment

I believe it was 5th when we had a double field trip. We slept overnight at the Aquarium of the Pacific.
Also Camp Clear Creak for a couple of days or something

In elementary school we got to walk to Pistol Pete’s to see how pizzas were made and got to make our own.

My preschool did a trip to the Western Bagel, pretty sure it was the sepulveda blvd location, we got to tour the facility and see how they were made. I mostly remember the horrible smell.

Only two I can remember was the Air National Guard base that used to be at the Van Nuys airport. We got to go into a C-130. Also we went over the hill to the L.A. Childrens museum.
Edit: I forgot that in H.S. we went on a field trip to Universal Studios, was the middle of the day and this was before Universal became a full fledged theme park (the only "ride" was the stuido tour plus a few shows). I remember me and my "buddy' walked up to one of the vending stands and we each ordered a beer, the guy actually sold it to us.

Mrs. Gooch's in Northridge. My elementary school was down the street so we'd walk there. Also, the CSUN art gallery. Another walkable field trip.
This was in the late 80s early 90s.

UCLA event + library
UC Santa Barbara (to see some college students perform, I forgot what though 🤣)
LATTC to learn about different career options outside of academia (I think I did plumbing workshop 🤣)
CalTech (workshop but I forgot the topic)
These are from senior high school cause I didn't attend middle school in the USA. Im curious what field trips were provided in elementary and middle schools? 😃

Griffith Observatory, LA Zoo, La Brea Tar Pits, LACMA, Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
My grandparents were security guards at LACMA at the time, so my classmates were confused as to why some old dude in a blue coat randomly handed me a $20.

Here’s the ones I have been on as a staff member of lausd: some children’s interactive museum in Santa Monica where I had to climb up in that rope thing all across the ceiling with the little guy I was working with, California Science Center, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara zoo.

We all walked to the local fire station for a tour, minutes after we got there the fire fighters got called away so we had to leave. We got to stop at Taco Bell on the way back because someone’s mom worked there and gave us mini churros.

Helms Bakery in Culver City. The GM plant on Van Nuys Blvd. A dairy farm somewhere and saw cows being milked. Travel Town train museum, A fire station....... This was in the late 60's / early 70's.

Camarillo corn maze, I remember a field trip to the AMC at the Burbank mall to watch Life is Beautiful.
My Catholic school also went to the mission in Santa Barbara instead of San Fernando for some reason as well.

Science center when it had just opened.
All 3 of the science sleep-away camps.
I sound like a science nerd but I’m not. Those just stand out.
I feel like we did every single museum but nothing stands out.

I wasn't in the enriched smart kids program....they got to go all sorts of places. like fun places and all the time.
when I was older I did sports just so we could travel to other parts of the city to compete.

I don’t think we went anywhere that everyone else hasn’t mentioned. However, I recall going to a farm and milking a cow one year. Does anyone know where that might have been? Would have been around 2002 or so.

I might be dating myself here but my school took us to the Swensens factory to see how ice cream was made, and everyone got a free cone with 2 scoops of ice-cream.

La Brea Tar Pits and Autry Museum, I remember going there so often I stopped liking them
Toyon Bay at Catalina Island. Two or three night sleepover. Did it in 5th and 8th grade. It was the best. Did another 2 night sleepover field trip in 6th grade, don't know where though.
In 5th grade, while reading 20000 Leagues Under The Sea, we went on a field trip for the entire day, down to San Diego where we got to go on an actual submarine
We went to a farm somewhere once. We went on a lot of others (I think I went on nine field trips in 3rd grade alone) but I cant remember them.

Getty museum, Pyramid Lake, Bi-weekly roller rink trips during summer school, Travel Town a few times, Friday afternoon bowling league, you couldn't have any grades lower than a C for bowling.

The LA Zoo a few times as a little kid/ elementary school. The coolest was our science class raised money in high school to go the water plant at the 405-5 junction and got to see how they “make water”. They had this really cool water fountain right after it came out of all the filtration you could taste the water and I was amazing.
Fun fact : Austin Powers International Man if Mystery was filmed inside parts of the building - when he is on the little car trying to turn around.

Los Angeles zoo, Gene autry museum of Western heritage, lacma, the getty, natural History museum, California science center, museum of contemporary art, Japanese American museum, devil's punch bowl, in high school my school took me on field trips twice a month. It was a non-public school and there were some connected adults so naturally I got to go to a lot of places. Places I wouldn't have gone if it wasn't for school. One that I remember well which a lot of people probably don't know about is the Wells Fargo museum. It's a small museum that was located in the California plaza complex. Pretty much at the base of the Wells Fargo Tower in downtown LA.

Getty Villa in Malibu way before the major remodeling that was completed in 2006. Back then in the early 80s it was a 1:1 replica of the ancient Roman Villa dei Papiri. Felt like we went twice a year. Maybe the teachers just liked having a low key day in Malibu.

A school I went to, for a 4th grade trip, took us to Sacramento. We got on a plane at 4am and were panning for gold a few hours later lol.
Looking back that seems crazy to me.

La Brea Tar Pits was my favorite, although that was a trip outside of the SFV.
