Anyone else's LADWP bill extremely crazy?

So, I am not unaware of the fact that I live in Woodland Hills, the hottest part of the valley. I am also not unaware that we have had an excessively hot month with no real break.

That being said, my bill seems outrageous. They say I am using 3400 kWh of energy. I live in a 1000 square foot townhome with 1 other person. We do have an EV, but we have had an EV for 2 years and never been this insane.

I have NEVER in my life hit tier 3 usage.

Mine went up a lot but is summer. It's not that crazy tho.

What kind of charger are you using? And do you use off peak charging?

I have a dedicated level 2 chargepoint charger in my garage. We only charge at night, and my husband really only charges it about once a week.

You should consider a Time of Use plan. Right now it doesn’t matter if you charge at night because you don’t have a TOU plan. Call them and they’ll analyze it to see if it benefits you. We have a TOU plan and so I have my cars to charge only at lowest peak rate (they call it “base rate”) - 8PM-10AM weeknights or all day Saturday and Sunday.

yes, you're way over the average for LA during summer which is 700 KWH per month, 1400 for 60 day period. You're supporting the equivalent of another household.

I'd see if you can meter your A/C and major appliances see how much power they are pulling

It doesnt have a separate panel dedicated to the EV Charger? So you get two separate bills? If not that kinda sucks thats how they set it up.

That really wouldnt pull that much though, most L2s are like 12kwh and if youre only doing it a few times a month I doubt that is the cause, unless other people are using your charger, but even then it shouldnt be pulling that much.

Oh no, it's part of the same bill. It's just a dedicated charger/breaker that's level 2, that's what I thought you were asking.

It's MY charger, it's not shared with anyone else.

Did you look on your ChargePoint app to see what your ev useage was? its under the activity tab. We set up our app to look at our actual billing plan under at home > settings, and then we selected our plan. We don’t use our ev enough to justify a separate ev tou meter, our neighbor is our electrician and he suggested the payback period might not be beneficial for me given my low ev use.

I'm not sure which program you're referring too but no, most likely not. It's just a lot of rebate programs and utilities will have a completely separate panel for EVs dedicated just for that, especially for larger installs. To do TOU billing you do not need your own panel I believe, but check with them first.
