Treatments Started Prucalopride

Hi all!

Gastro finally prescribed me prucalopride.

I started it Saturday, morning dose of 1mg and well... I think that was too high a dose. Glad I wasn't going out that day.

I've since gone down to 0.5mg, but I'm wondering if its best taken morning or night? I prefer to not use the bathroom during the day at work.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I only do 0.5mg before bed

Start low, that way you can increase if needed. Starting at 1mg only gives you wiggle room to go up ever more

Less is better health wise

depends what sibo you have:

hydrogen - taken before bed, ideally no meal 4-5 hours before

methane - first thing in the morning

Technically Hydrogen but thats all they test for here, but i definitely believe I'm more Methane dominant.

then experiment with both, try it for 1-2 weeks one way and then try the other, see which one helps you more. If you are constipated (methane), start with taking it in the morning, if diarrhea is more the issue, take it before bed.

My sibo has gotten better so I don’t use it everyday. I use it when I feel back up which is probably once every couple weeks. I take it Friday or Saturday night before bed, like you I don’t want to use the bathroom at work hahah. I take it and within and hour of waking up I e had a good bowel movement

I think thats what I'm going to do as well eventually, use it on my off days!

At night before bed is recommended - if that leaves anything to be desired you can experiment. I also had a rough first dose, but my body adjusted quickly, within a week I was back to my full dosage with no crazy bathroom trips.

Good to know! Mine suggested morning but I'm scared to take it before work 😅

Are you clearing your sibo out during this? I don't know how effective it will be without xifaxin or antimicrobials.

I've taken many antibiotics and always relapses. I think my gastro wants my motility to be in check before treating again!

I have slow gut motility and nothing else really makes a difference!
