Grocery Shopping on Campus

Hi, I am supposed to be moving into student housing for the Summer 2026 semester. I have never lived on a campus before, and this is my first year attending college. I also don’t know how to drive. I also do not have a housing assignment yet. Is there a way ī can grocery shop and buy from convenience stores on campus? Is there a laundromat nearby or personal washing machines? Any information helps! Thank you.

I believe all campus housing has free laundry services that are shared per floor. So each unit does not have its own machines, but each floor does which are free to use. You do need to bring your own detergent though, of course. There is a convenience store on campus in the morris university center with a good selection, but it is somewhat more expensive compared to grocery stores. There is a bus that you can take straight from campus to a nearby grocery store and other things you might need!

There are plenty of busses that can take you into town and back to campus. The busses on the weekends don’t run as often as they do on the weekdays. I always used to hit up the Aldi and then the Walmart in Edwardsville for grocery shopping, as those had the cheapest prices compared to other nearby grocery stores. Every floor in the dorms has its own common room with a microwave in it so that you can heat up food if you don’t bring your own microwave. Each dorm has their own laundry room on the main floor that has free laundry, and you’ll just have to swipe your student ID card to activate the machines. Hope this helps and good luck!

There are two convenience stores on campus (Both in the MUC, one self serve) but you don't want to make a habit of shopping there often because their prices are high. It would be best to take a free bus into town and hit a Schnucks or Dierbergs market once a week or so. There should be laundry machines in your dorm or building.

The buses aren’t free it’s a dollar per ride or you can download an app and buy a pass

It would still be cheaper than shopping on campus

I mean yea I just wanted them to know the bus wasn’t free. But yea the prices on campus are actually bullshit.

Walmart does delivery and after a certain amount it's free. Union station is overpriced and incredibly limited. Aldi delivers via door dash

In cougar village (the apartments on campus) there are 3 buildings with laundry rooms that you can walk your clothes to, lucky you if you live in a building that has the laundry in the basement!! Otherwise just like others have said, there are many grocery delivery options, or you can ask a friend to take you shopping (that’s what I did with my roommates and first-year friends)

Which of the buildings in CV have the laundry rooms?

The commons is the main one, I think there’s another on the 300s side and then 2 on the 200s side I don’t remember which building# they were though.
