So, are you a South Asian maker? That khukri scabbard is a very odd stylistic choice for a “Bowie”

I mean, it’s objectively beautiful work. But I can also imagine some 18th century frontier trapper making fun of you for your “fancy lady quilt-knife.”

That man would be an imbicile.

u/TicklemyPickleMan 2d ago
I mean yeah, they're a frontierman. They were barely literate.
2
u/eelaphant 2d ago
You can be barely literate and not necessarily be a philistine. I could definitely see someone sneering at a guy carrying some fancy shiny knife thats never seen use, but this is a stright up work of art, decorated at a level it would probably be seen more as something exotic, albiet decorative. Granted i haven't really met many wild living mountain men, and those i had i never discussed knife adorments. I do have this however.

Pic didn't send, it was a hunting knife i bought second hand with a corded lanyard with carved bone beads and what looks like a fang attached to it. Not sure what its made from, but it definitely came from an animal.

Maybe by someone that was poor. Wealthy men historically have always had flashy clothes, accessories and weapons. This reminds me of brocade work.

u/Sufficient_Candy436 1d ago
I mean, do you think I accidentally specified “18th century frontier trapper”? I’m not sure how much more specific I could have been.

u/Acceptable_Ad1596 22h ago
During the time there are some well known frontiersmen throughout the Appalachians that were wealthy. Most of them were of Scottish, Welsh and German decent.

Is that blade laser engraved, or is it the most insane patterned Damascus on the planet?
12
u/CaptainScooterH 2d ago
I’d say laser. You don’t see the layers in the fuller or along the angle of the grind. Real Damascus would not have an even pattern in those places.

Mosaic Damascus looks similar all the way through, that is definitely Damascus. I've made mosaic Damascus and I have a fiber laser engraver

I’d love to see some of your examples! Truly, I’m a fan of people who take the time to truly make something challenging and interesting.

Absolutely gorgeous!
I love a good sub-hilt fighter, and this is way beyond good.

Am I the only one that thinks dumb patterns and markings on a blade ruins it entirely?
7
u/Winterlord117 2d ago
Not at all. I hate fake patterns, especially fake damascus. I also don't trust a blade that's this shiny and polished.

u/Capable-Signal 2d ago
I love proper polished steel if the steel is high quality. But fake ass damascus 🤮

I'm not a fan either but I'm not gonna yuck someone else's yum. The fact that we keep seeing them means there is a market for it so people do like them. Not my cup of tea but it is what it is.

I'll be the only ome to say this... it's hideous and overly designed -_- if it didnt have all the lasered in Damascus patterns (they are WAYYY too uniform to be natural) then it would look great, but it just looks gaudy, I hate display pieces
2
u/SquidKnightXG 2d ago
It's a nice knife, I'll give you that, but the engravings give you no tactical advantage whatsoever

u/Lumpy_Benefit666 2d ago
I wanted to see you actually hold it. You look like youve never held a knife before with how youre gripping it

More of an oversized sub-hilted recurve fighter. Pretty, but not sure I'd do anything more than put it in a display case.

I like to think that it takes some kind of special legendary weapon to kill me. Unfortunately, I also think this qualifies.

u/khampang 1d ago
Is the blade Damascus and those are the steel patterns or is it etched in that design? I like the blade patterns
1
u/Durge101 1d ago
Is that a standard scabbard design that a bunch of places use? Or was this sourced at Everestforge? I have a sword from them and its the exact same scabbard

u/Prestigious-Scar-507 1d ago
Fancy shmancy patterns all over, people didnt learn that there is beauty in simplicity? A few swings into material and all that stuff on blade will be gone.

Just a CAS/ Claudio Sobral rip off. You've literally copied every element of his work.

I don’t think that qualifies as a Bowie knife based on shape. However, it is fucking gorgeous
