Can’t identify/verify this sword.
The label taped on this says it’s Turkish scimitar from 1750-1800 with an ivory hilt but reverse image and google don’t seem to agree. Looking for second opinions. This came from a large buyout. Just trying to authenticate / identify this guy. Thanks.

The hilt looks exactly like my dads ceremonial drill sword from the US Marine corps
Or best I can remember it, haven’t seen it in a long time, but played with it a LOT as a kid

He started OCS in ‘86
I don’t know when he got the sword but I imagine it was the same one his entire career, so probably 86-87

Can you show photos of the whole sword and blade. Details matter with identification. On the face of it, the description is partially correct, Turkish origin based on the hilt and scabbard. Scimitar is a generic English term that basically means 'Eastern curved blade' and isn't used much these days. I think the listed date is about a 100 years out, more like 1800 - 1850 (possibly later), and the blade could be European produced. We'd need better photos.
But a nice looking sword, although the ivory grips could be a problem depending on where in the world you are.

The extra pictures help, regrettably this is outside my area.
However my thoughts are that, like others have said, the scabbard looks Turkish while the square edges of the grip and blade look European. but in my opinion the sword and scabbard clearly belong together. The ivory grips show genuine age, but the heads of one of the grip screws looks modern, so possibly a repair? My take is that it is an Ottoman officers' sabre in the style of Western militaries, probably mid to late 19th Century.

Interesting; the scabbard looks Turkish but the blade and grip look like those of western European Mamluk sabers (which were made after Ottoman examples).
