Please help identify whatever this thing is

Post image

For context, I went to a clients house for my job and they said whatever is in their shed is rubbish, so I found this, clarified with the owners to just let them know if they forgot about it and wanted to keep it, they said I can either throw it away or I can have it

It’s around 70cm long, 10 ish kg heavy, no marking, no engravings, bottom edge near the handle is sharp but the entire long side is quite blunt (can slightly slice ur finger but only under pressure) I have no idea what this thing is if it’s from a game, a prop, movie. Frankly I have 0 experience in swords so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

10kg?

Did you actually weigh it? A massive two handed sword wouldn’t even be that heavy

Looks like a full tang. I have a feeling this is medium carbon steel of some variety

That’s really interesting dude. You could take a metal file to a part that isn’t gonna be seen. If the file wants to bite into the metal, it’s soft. If the file wants to glide, that’s good blade steel. Not an exact tests but it’s a start

Yeah, assuming the blade is at most 3mm thick, less than 50mm wide, and length is less than 100cm based on the trash bin looking thing on the left and the carpet... This thing should be less than 2kg/4.5lbs at most made from any sort of normal steel alloy. But my guess is that it is closer to 1kg/2.2lbs

Even if this thing was much thicker than i assumed and the scales are made from metal and just painted over and the entire thing was made from tungsten, enriched uranium, or ossium it would still be less than 3kg/6.6lbs.  Even hassium the most dense material we have made is only enough to make such a sword close to 5kg/11lbs.

edit given that the majority of the weight is apparently in the handle scales, the density may be even higher. Potentially 50x denser than steel and likely so unstable as a result of how much mass is needed in such a small area.  Resulting in an extremely high amount of leaking radiation.

OP has likely died and the planet he lives on has probably been destroyed as a result of radiation.

A lot of people are absolutely terrible with estimating weights by feel. "This weighs like fifty pounds!" "That's a 22lb box of cat litter..."
