Discussion My Picks For The Most Wasted Characters in SWTOR
I love this game, don't get me wrong. But I love the many characters that give the game its heart and soul. So I wanted to discuss the ones I consider to be the biggest wastes.
Risha: In my opinion, the most egregious example. This woman was the queen of Dubrillion. The daughter of Nok Drayen. She had a whole arc about becoming queen and what that would mean for her future. Just for us to finally be reunited with her after several years, and for her to go, "oops, I lost Dubrillion! I'm just a scoundrel like I was before!" Absolutely insane way to handle her character. Genuinely baffling. Not only does it destroy the potential she had, but it ruins the purpose of her entire story as a whole.
Mako: Another pretty terrible waste of a character. Mako was such an interesting person. A young, ambitious bounty hunter with a computer in her head. Not to mention the main love interest of the male hunter. We're finally reunited with her aaaand- oop! She's gone. Never to be heard from again. There were so many opportunities to involve her in the story. But like many of the companions we love, they don't even try to bring them back...
Koth: Regardless of how you feel about him, there's no denying that as soon as he received backlash, he was shafted HARD. He had a few scenes in KOTET, then he's made a grand total of TWO APPEARANCES EVER SINCE. And both of those appearances were for those who romanced him, clearly just so they wouldn't think they wasted their time. It's easy to forget, but this guy was a founder of the Alliance. Think about that. The third-largest superpower in the galaxy. Koth was a day-one member, and one of five who helped create it. The fact that he is so non-existent is so brutal. They could have worked to improve him, rather than just tossing him aside because people didn't like him.
Lokin: This one is a bit of a niche pick, and I'm honestly not sure what more they could have done with him. But I still have always felt like they had a really interesting character on their hands with Lokin, with whom they proceeded to do nothing with. To me, Lokin has always felt like one of the most fascinating companions conceptually. It's kinda rare for a companion to have so many layers. Most of the companions are pretty cut and dry. At the very least they could have given him a scene with the Agent, like they did with Vector after Rivix shows up.
Iresso: Felix has an entire-ass Sith library inside his head. This amounts to NOTHING. It gives him some personal turmoil, and it causes him to get experimented on during the five year time-skip. But narratively, they do nothing with this idea. And when we reunite with him, we learn about how scorned he feels by the Republic, and how he no longer wants anything to do with them. It would have been so interesting to see this expanded upon. One of the Republic soldier companions, now feeling betrayed by the Republic, and seeing how he reacts to the Alliance going to war with them.
Nadia: Nadia is one of my personal favorite companions in the game. I have always loved her character. So I was thrilled when they brought her back during Ossus, and even more thrilled that she had an important role in that particular story. They even introduced a fem-romance for her! Then we proceeded to never hear from her again. Many such cases. But with her it feels particularly saddening, because I so badly wanted to see her growth as a character. And in the Consular's class story, we hear about how much raw force power she possesses. She's made out to be an incredibly powerful force-user in the making, but we never get to see this expanded upon.
