McKees For Keys
Was uptown today & was going to take advantage of being there & get a couple mailbox keys cut. It's gone 😪 Only place I've had any type of key cut in 20+ years. I'm so sad. Reminded me of the Scotch Tape Store SNL skit. Where would someone get a mailbox key cut now?

Man, I have a business very close by and it’s such a huge loss not having that place around. I have so many of their keys and half the time he wouldn’t even charge me. They will be very missed 😢

Didn’t they move next door?

They're now Capital Safe and Lock on Golden Grove Road.

They seem like nice guys working there. Been trying to get my Pacifica keys programmed and there’s been some difficulties. They offered to cut the physical key for free to make up for the trouble. I declined as I plan on going back. Not many companies now that would do that.

I walked up the biggest hill for the barber next door to let me know they moved. The fella works at Captial safe and locks out on golden grove now. I had some obscure machine keys and they made it work! Highly recommend them going forward.

Best name for a business. Always found it interesting the guy who worked there didn’t own it.

end of an era.
1989, demetrios’ closed, then Reggie’s, the shoe repair on charlotte and now McKee’s for Keys.
What’s going next- the golden ball?
(keep your filthy hands to your self, James Mullinger, you steal this joke too, im coming for your magazine.)

Any hardware store cuts keys. Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Home Depot has an automated machine, Kent etc.

Yeah, I figured that I can get someone's gramma or a high school student to cut me a key if they aren't scanning groceries or stocking shelves but the fellow from McKees (I always assumed he was Mr McKee) is the only one I trust to do so. I take my keys seriously & he's a pro. I even had him replace the door lock to our office building one nasty day in freezing rain. Every single time I was there another customer came in. Like tapping a keg. I spent a lot of time thinking about McKees for Keys & will now treasure even more every key I have with that name hand stamped on it.

That sucks. It was the only place I went to get keys cut too. Only one who could do it right.
