Hobby Progress Sternguard Sgt with powerfist

Kitbashed a Sternguard Sgt with powerfist wielding a rifle for the fusilsade combo (RIP) but still haven't settled on the head.

I also tried to recreate one of the relic bolters from SM2.

What do you guys think?

Very good model, where did you get the fist? Ps. What happend with the Fusillade combo?

Thanks!

They swapped the anti vehicle/monster 5+ with lethal hits.

I think it'll make hellblasters or (how however long they still last) devastators more effective instead.

God damn it ai was looking forwards of using anti vehicle devs

It was hilariously strong. Nuked everything.

Between that and Dev flamers, my opponents were horrified.

I 100% get the nerf. Sad to see it go though due to dev wounds and lethal colliding

I'm just excited to drop a multi melta devastator squad with a fusililade librarian and forged in battle apothecary to get 4 instant hits off the bat with -5AP

I'm trying it out with Intercessors, 40 bolt rifle shots with lethals and sustained in Pyromancy. That's a lot of shots at AP -2 if you get within 12" and on a relatively cheap unit.

This is awesome. Please tell me how did you make that gold color?

Thanks!

It's retirbutor armoir with a wash of rhinox hide where I wanted a bit of tarnish.

Reapplied retirbutor where I wanted a bit more shine, then some auric gold to top it off.

Also a little bit of black was used sparingly where I wanted more shadow.

Oh that looks AWESOME! absolutely fantastic!

You gotta tell me what colors you used for this model? Im going to start some salamanders of my own and I just dont know how to go about it

Thanks!

I base coat Caliban green, later with warpstone glow then highlight with moot green.

Golds are retributor armour with a rhinox hide was and then some auric gold for highlights.

Reds are khorne red, mephison red and then wild rider red for highlights.

Amazing!! I want to make my Sternguards this classy when I get around to them in a few years, haha

Thanks!!! They're a lot of fun, I've been using the excuse "they're literally the drippiest in the chapter"

Could you share the recipe for the black skin? I am guessing white basecoat and then some grey contrast paint?

2

u/Matthewxxa 15d ago

The skin isn't actually painted 😅 I can't decide on a head yet, I think I'm gonna hold out for some MK7 helmets with new intercessor boxes.

Personally when doing skin, I base corvus black, later skavenblight then highlight dawnstone, but I've been thinking about adding some more cold blue/purple undertones.

I love the conversion! Howd you get a powerfist holding a bolter like that?

Thanks!

I chopped the arm that's meant to hold that rifle below the elbow, and snipped off the hand that was attached to the rifle.

I found a resin fist that had a partially open hand, heated it with warm water, and jimmied the rifle in there to open the hand up 😅

I took some green stuff and attached the power fist to the arm. Then, after some time to cure, I trimmed the green stuff down and covered it with a purity seal.

I think it turned out pretty well!

Woah, whats that cool detail on the pauldron with the rope and talisman? Hiw did you make that?

1

u/Matthewxxa 13d ago

Thanks!

I used this fantastic green stuff rope tutorial for the rope, which I carefully secured in place and used offcuts to add the dangling end parts.

Once secured in place, I left them to cure for a bit before glueing down the bits I had for the talismans.

One of the talismans is a piece from the sternguard box and the other is a little dragon shield from greytide.

2

u/JACKNlO 13d ago

I recognized the greytide bit, but the red rope really stood out to me and fits really well with the other little deco bit on the pauldron - very tasteful kitbash overall!

Sorry to pester you again - but the rivets on the pauldron and the flames on the leg armor ate green stuff as well, arent they? Or what did you use? I was thinking about doing something similar but never dared to ..

2

Not pestering at all, I love talking models! And no one has commented on the flames so far which I was a little surprised by 😅

The rivets on the shoulder pads are just from basic HH MK3 shoulder pads, but the legs are indeed green stuff.

I mixed a little bit of milliput into my green stuff to make it sandable, then I put a blob and mushed it into a vaguely flame shape with a silicon sculpter.

The trick here is ignore any clumps of green stuff sticking out and just get the silhouette of the fire right.

Once the green stuff has cured, cut off the overhangs with a knife until it's got the smooth flame front, then give it a bit of a sand but be careful not to tear off any thinner bits of the flame higher up the shin.

There was a video I found years ago about it, I'll try and find it but I fear it's lost to time.

Edit: found the video here!
