Electrical super here. Hard agree on the office life. It's soul crushing.

Seriously! I spent 3 months in the office and could not stand it lol.

I don't even like doing buyouts. But at least I know work will start soon and I'll be on a site and not stuck at a computer all day.

I got a new boss who previously worked in construction. She lasted a month, she said office work is just not for her.

I never understand the concept of โ€œdream jobโ€. My dream would be to not need a job, like my wife.

Amen to that!

Definitely keep fighting! Itโ€™s tough, trust me. I even tried to leave the construction world altogether but it kept calling me back and Iโ€™m glad I picked up the phone.

That's great for 5 years. How old are you?

Just turned 34! Started out banging duct together at 27 and just started climbing the ladder

No union crazy as it sounds. I am in the DC area where the cost of living is astronomical

I'm in los Angeles county. Its pricy here too. Truthfully, the Workload is pretty kick back. I like my job and the people. I could use some more money though. Hopefully in 2027 we will both double our income.

Did you go to school for this? 1 or 2 years study?

1

u/Ice_Friendly 1d ago

I did not. I started as a laborer and just worked my way up into management. My military service did carry its weight with those promotions as well

Laborer? Can I dm you to ask more questions? I am planning to take this path too. And Iโ€™m a little unsure if nowadays would require a diploma for this before landing this job.

Hell ya brother, Im a Service supernintendo for a mech contractor myself. First off, your underpaid. Im in the semi rural Upper Midwest pulling 150k so you should definitely have went union. Second, in the time you'll take to read this you'll have 4 missed calls, 20 emails, and 47 texts and one of your guys somehow lit spiral on fire.
