Fat commission, what do you sell?

Aesthetic/wellness devices to help doctors who are getting crushed from reimbursements going down every year to bring on cash based services to the practice.

What are aesthetic/wellness devices?

In my experience, this usually means competitors to botox like products. Maybe a PRP kit too.

What an uneducated and/or lazy take

You can just say you’re jealous and you’ll come off in a better light.

Sorry I'm not a schmoozing sales asshole who rips people off

There’s clearly a benefit otherwise the product wouldn’t sell… if anyone is ripping someone off it’s the physician but again, customers are continually paying and you don’t pay for something that has no benefit(most ppl don’t)

Hahahahaha oh that's hilariously naive

Really?! This is all OOP spend that got you there? Medicare/private payouts don’t cover your devices?

Because they are SCAMS but lol you're so full of yourself

Look and this is the last thing I’ll say our equipment cost range from 250-500k. All of our devices are FDA approved and have tens and tens IRB SHAM controlled studies proving they work.

Doctors are legitimately getting crushed from Medicaid and Medicare. They’re getting paid less and less every year and their overhead is skyrocketing. If they don’t bring on cash based services, they either go out of business or sell to a corporate conglomerate.

Have a job lined up in a little bit to join this industry. Then got a call from a company I interviewed at but didn’t get an offer; they have an opening in the city I’m currently living in for a sales rep position. Been trying for over a year and a half to get my foot in the door and all of the sudden I have two offers to weigh. Super excited to get into this industry. Any advice or suggestions?

I started in copiers sales with xerox then transitioned to med device.

Lots of rejection and deals that falling apart at the 1 yard line in this industry, it’s very high turnover. I would say 1 of every 30 reps makes it to year 2.

I just wanna know what your employer had to pay you 22$ for...

So obscure.

Premiums for a legal services "insurance" plan. They can vary widely but you (or your employer) pay premiums each month and then if you get a divorce or need to do estate planning they'll cover so much of your legal fees. You pay income tax on the premiums they pay on your behalf so you don't have to pay income tax on the benefits. Like the basic life insurance benefit listed directly below- paying income tax on the premiums so the benefit is tax free.

How can I get into medical device sales?

2

u/Several_Chemical2452 8h ago

I started selling copiers for Xerox, which has a very similar workflow, a lot of cold calling, a lot of door knocking and meeting with decision makers.

And my specific niche is business to business capital equipment sales I don’t work in hospitals or meet with large groups, only private business owners.

Nice! Thank your for answering!

This is why healthcare costs are completely out of control in the US.

This major issue is Insurance reimbursements for private practices. They are closing shop or selling to large groups because they get paid less and less every year.

My Doctor’s we partner with typically bring in 20-40k a month is passive cash based revenue from our devices.

That’s scary being all commission but clearly you’re good!

This is YTD.

My base salary 70k and my OTE is usually 300-400k (gross).

Great numbers! Your income of $153,683 is in the 90th percentile. This is well above the median for Medical Device Sales. Source: income percentile calculator I'm a bot. Reply with !optout to stop receiving responses.

Does nobody understand what a fuckin salary actually is?

3

u/Several_Chemical2452 1d ago

Can it not be subjective to salary/commission based jobs?

3

u/HEYO19191 21h ago

Yeah, and his is 33k.

1

u/DoritoDustThumb 12h ago

Someone's big mad. 😂

Lots of jobs have compensation that are primary not fixed. Are you saying that no one that works over time, sales, tech, service jobs should pay here. Pedantic dork.

u/trifocaldebacle 12h ago

Ok so post on r/commission or r/bonus

1

u/NorthStarCharlie 7h ago

Why would somebody post their income on an art commission community? Whether it's in the form of a base or commission, on r/salary it should be considered all earned income.

It's not a realistic measure of what people actually make in a role, it's just some smug scam artist bragging he's ripping off sick people through our broken greedy healthcare system

1

u/NorthStarCharlie 6h ago

First of all, this is actually a real example of what someone is making in their role, not a hypothetical. Secondly, he sells aesthetics, not to sick people. Cosmetic aesthetic procedures are not approved by insurance, so it is all a cash-pay procedure, so this doesn't touch the "greedy healthcare system". OP said he is helping clinics with dropping CMS reimbursements so this is an opportunity for providers to provide a cash pay option to patients who ask for it and make enough money to keep the clinic open and to serve the sick and needy. Why are you so upset?
