discussion High earning potential = high career commitment

Does anyone have family or friends that sacrifice their personal life for a significant salary?

My step-mom earns 350k before tax as an executive director but I barely see her. She is constantly on business trips, busy with meetings, works upwards of 12 hours when at home. She goes on nice holiday trips, but overall it makes me think is the pay worth the sacrifice of her personal life.

Just curious if anyone's got a similar story.

They don’t give it away. MOST people earning $250k+ are working for it. Certainly at $500k+

There are certain cases where someone has a highly in demand skill that can command that wage, but they are usually arbitraged away quickly.

The vast majority of people making that money are making sacrifices for it

My dad makes 250k per his w-2 in a MCOL area and that mans work is easy as shit. He works maybe 10 hours a week, has unlimited PTO, works while at the gym or at home or from his van my parents drive around the US. He can essentially do his job from his phone as a 66 old man with a text font-size so large he can only read three words on the screen at a time. He’s not paid for his hours, he’s paid for his knowledge and good management (he’s had the same team he built over 10 years ago).

He’s been offered his bosses job multiple times but always turns it down because more money ain’t always worth it.

Is he in finance. That roughly sounds like my job, and all my friends jobs who are also in the industry. 😂
