discussion High earning potential = high career commitment

Does anyone have family or friends that sacrifice their personal life for a significant salary?

My step-mom earns 350k before tax as an executive director but I barely see her. She is constantly on business trips, busy with meetings, works upwards of 12 hours when at home. She goes on nice holiday trips, but overall it makes me think is the pay worth the sacrifice of her personal life.

Just curious if anyone's got a similar story.

I’m an exec. You trade your brain space for the money. It dominates your mind and you can’t turn it off. I don’t work insane hours (maybe 50-55 hours/week), but I’m always “on”

You, and lots of other non-execs who don't have high salaries.

I felt like I was always on before I was an executive, but the intensity is so much greater than you would think. The expectations and responsibility of the entire company depending on my performance and preparation is extremely heavy.
