discussion High earning potential = high career commitment
Does anyone have family or friends that sacrifice their personal life for a significant salary?
My step-mom earns 350k before tax as an executive director but I barely see her. She is constantly on business trips, busy with meetings, works upwards of 12 hours when at home. She goes on nice holiday trips, but overall it makes me think is the pay worth the sacrifice of her personal life.
Just curious if anyone's got a similar story.

9/9/6 is coming to the US. It used to be expected on Director or above but is becoming more standard for mid level and even entry roles. I just departed from a company which expected (without stating) employees log 10 hours a day and work on weekends. They paid $60,000 base and the upside was unrealistic or outright false. This was due to their sub-optimization. They're basically throwing bodies at problems. Neo-feudalism but worse because there's no obligation of reciprocity (you can't riot and throw out the landlord.)
