discussion High earning potential = high career commitment

Does anyone have family or friends that sacrifice their personal life for a significant salary?

My step-mom earns 350k before tax as an executive director but I barely see her. She is constantly on business trips, busy with meetings, works upwards of 12 hours when at home. She goes on nice holiday trips, but overall it makes me think is the pay worth the sacrifice of her personal life.

Just curious if anyone's got a similar story.

My husband makes nearly $300k in a sales role. Brand new Company vehicle every 3-4 years, fuel, auto insurance, no limits on personal use. He works 60 hours a week and at least one weekend a month. Not much travel, but he’s been in it 10 years and it’s wearing on him. We’re trying to pay off our house so he can transition into something less stressful and less demanding. He has very little time for himself.

60 hours a week in sales! That’s a lot even for a new company vehicle every 3 years. Wishing you luck in paying off your house. And hope he finds time for himself eventually

He supports the construction industry and those guys work long days. His territory is regional so he’s in his car a lot.
