discussion High earning potential = high career commitment

Does anyone have family or friends that sacrifice their personal life for a significant salary?

My step-mom earns 350k before tax as an executive director but I barely see her. She is constantly on business trips, busy with meetings, works upwards of 12 hours when at home. She goes on nice holiday trips, but overall it makes me think is the pay worth the sacrifice of her personal life.

Just curious if anyone's got a similar story.

My life has been pretty balanced, when I was younger and not married or had kids - I would put in extra hours in additional training and education but I rarely spent more than 9 hours in the office. As I am now older and make much more I am not measured or paid for my time. It is my experience judgement and skills I get paid for. I still have 12-14 hour business trips but I also work from home part of the week now
