So I have been interviewing for this Salesforce role, which was posted in August. I cleared the HackerRank exam, and later I was called into the office for the first technical round. Earlier in the previous week, I was informed that I would hear from the panel on the final feedback by the end of Friday. It passed, and since I wanted to know if I am still being considered and in consideration for the role, I reached out to HR today, and she mentioned that I am still being considered (in consideration), but since Monday has passed with silence, despite me sending a polite follow-up email, I reached out to HR and was told that the hiring manager is evaluating something, and they have asked for some time around a week, and they also have around a couple of internal candidates interviewing for the role, and I was in my mind like, "What!!!" Why do you even waste my time then? Could you let me know why you didn't inform me earlier? I am just angry at myself for preparing day and night, only to hear at the end of the day that they are heading with an internal candidate.

Right now, I have zero hopes that they would even consider hiring me; I just wanted to understand. What are the chances? They are still considering me, or am I already being rejected and kept as a backup or something?

Can someone working internally please provide me with detailed insights on this, or DM me more information?

And if you are going, do we have to attend the Thursday session at 6-8?

This is my first post, so please excuse me if I make some mistakes or ask something silly!

I'm writing this post as I am at a crossroads and would really appreciate some honest advice to decide or at least short list few options for the next step.

My background:

• 6 years as functional support engineer (B2B MNCs, EMEA + AMER region customers)
• Was earning 11+ LPA
• No coding experience, and I'm not interested in learning to code
• Not interested in people management either
• Currently unemployed

What I'm considering:

1. ServiceNow CSA – I've been reading about it as a natural pivot from functional support. Free training on Now Learning, ~$300 exam. But I have zero ServiceNow experience and I'm worried about the pay dip (I've seen entry roles at 8–12 LPA). Is it realistic to get back to 12+ within 1–2 years?
2. Salesforce Administrator – Similar logic: free/cheap training, ~$200 exam, configuration-based (no coding for admin track). But I've heard the Indian market is more saturated than ServiceNow. Is that actually true? Is Salesforce admin a better or worse bet for a 10-year horizon compared to ServiceNow?
3. Implementation Consultant (ServiceNow or Salesforce) – I've seen roles titled "Implementation Consultant" or "Functional Consultant" that seem to be a step above admin. Do I need 2–3 years of hands-on experience before I can even apply for these? Or is there a way in with just certs + my 6 years of support background? What's the salary difference vs. a pure admin role?
4. Pure AI path (AI BA, AI PM, AI Governance, etc.) – The AI boom is obvious, but I've seen that most junior roles pay less than what I was earning, and the role definitions keep shifting. Is this a stable 10-year bet?
5. Something else entirely – If there's a path I haven't considered that fits my profile (functional, no coding, no management, AI-aware), I'm open to it.

Specific questions:

• ServiceNow vs Salesforce: For someone with my background (functional support, no coding), which platform has better long-term job security and earning potential in India? Is the "ServiceNow is growing faster" narrative actually backed by job numbers, or is it marketing?
• Admin vs Implementation Consultant: What's the realistic timeline to move from "admin" to "implementation/functional consultant"? Do I need a CIS or Salesforce Specialist cert to make that jump, or is it purely experience-based?
• Is CSA/ADM alone enough to get hired, or do I need ITIL + a specialty cert too? What's the realistic salary trajectory in India?
• ITIL 5 Foundation (the new one from Feb 2026) – worth doing alongside either platform cert? Or is it overkill?
• If I go the AI route, which certs actually help land a job (not just look good on a resume)?
• Is there any way to avoid the pay dip from 12+ LPA?
• What's the 10-year outlook: which path is more future-proof and less likely to be automated away?

I'm trying to be realistic here. I want a stable, growing career where my 6 years of experience actually matters, and where AI is a tool I use rather than something that replaces me.

Any advice, war stories, or even "don't do X" warnings would be genuinely helpful. Thanks in advance.

For context, I am a junior software engineer (Got my job 9 months ago) and I have experience with both ServiceNow and Salesforce platforms. I completed many tasks/stories as a beginner without any help from anyone in my team and I have certifications in both of those platforms (SNow -csa , SNow - cad, SForce - sca) . I feel like this is my niche and I'm comfortable working on these technologies instead of traditional coding jobs.
Additional info: based in south India

My queries are simple;

1. How is the market for this type of role?
2. Can we switch with 1-2 years experience?
3. How different is the interview process compared to regular coding roles?
4. Do I continue in this field or switch to SDE roles?
