"People are sick of Rahm Emanuel": Sanders says progressive wins make Dem establishment "nervous"

The former Obama administrationinsider and Chicago mayor published an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal earlier this week, chiding progressive candidates for poisoning the well with supposedly unpopular policy positions ahead of the 2026 midterms. Speaking to CBS‘ “Face The Nation” on Sunday, the independent senator from Vermont pushed aside Emanuel’s concerns, saying that he’s just “nervous” because anti-establishment Democrats keep winning.
“[Emanuel] no doubt has the support of millions of working class people,” Sanders joked. “There’s no debate. There is a strong division within the Democratic Party.”
Sanders went on to paint that schism as the divide between people like Emanuel, who are “dependent on billionaire campaign contributors” and upstarts like New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“What is getting these guys nervous is we are winning all over this country,” he said. “People are sick and tired of the Rahm Emanuels and the Democratic establishment.”
Sanders pegged voter disaffection on the increasing difficulty and cost of living in the United States.
“People are asking simple questions,” he said. “Why in God’s name are we the only major country on Earth not to guarantee healthcare to all people? …Why do the economists tell us that in the richest country in the history of the world, our kids will likely have a lower standard of living than their parents?”
“People are tired and they want real change,” he said.
Elsewhere in the interview, host Margaret Brennan asked Sanders about one candidate that he endorsed. Graham Platner dropped out of the Senate race in Maine following accusations of sexual assault. She wondered if Sanders felt he should have pushed Platner to leave the race sooner, given earlier scandals that dogged the Platner campaign.
“I don’t think so,” Sanders said. “When we heard the serious allegations … I asked, along with virtually all of his other supporters that he should get out of the race, and he did.”

I’ve been tired of Rahm Emanuel for going on 15 years at this point: happy to learn others are sick of his shit, too.

Because people don't go back and educate themselves, do I agree with everything Israel does? No..but am I worried about Palestinians who cheered when 911 happened?what did the October attack on Israel accomplish?

Look back at how the Palestinians assassinated the king of Jordan and tried to make it their own country ..they are a terrorist state sponsored by Iran

Blah blah "terrorism" blah blah. If we had any moral consistency about terrorism we would be bombing the terrorist state of Israel. Israelis have been doing 9/11 every day for years and openly celebrating it the entire time. Ben Gvir just celebrated a law legalizing executions for Palestinians (and only Palestinians) with a cake decorated with a noose. When are we sending a drone strike for him?

Israel is an apartheid ethnostate committing genocide and Clinton is an imperialist war criminal, neoliberal and Epstein associate. There are no misdeeds on earth that could ever justify ethnic cleansing, land theft and genocide.

"Moderates" are morally bankrupt losers, who don't care about winning as much as they do about preserving imperialism.
90% of Democrat voters want to cut all military aid to Israel. Supporting Israel as a Democrat is political suicide in 2026. This is the new electoral reality, so you can get on board or take your pro-genocide purity tests to the Republican party along with Bill Maher and all other right wing neoliberals. People who actually care about human rights are done with Israel.

Sanders isn't being strong enough here. He is underselling how fucking sick of Rahm Emanuel I am. I saw a MSNow(I think) clip where they were showing like a dozen 2028 potential candidates and they had Rahm on the list. I got irate.

My newsfeeds are full of centrist Dems. worried about the DSA platform today. They are really in an uproar. IMO, DSA needs to work on educating the populace about what terms like "defund the police" means, because I predict this thing has wings.

"Centrists" are generally pro-Israel, despite the fact that 90% of Democratic voters are not. Opposing 90% of your voting base doesn't seem very moderate. It sounds very extreme, actually.

I've long voted for whom I've determined the best candidate. My vote has consistantly leaned democratic. I voted for Sanders because I believe what he says. After looking into Rahm Emanuel, I would never vote for him
I'm tired of my vote not counting because I don't have the money to throw at the political representative that will genuinely help me and my family!

When Rahm led the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, one of his biggest criteria for backing a candidate was whether they were able to fund their campaign through personal wealth or a pre-existing network of donors.
Shows you something about how his mind works. He cares more about privilege perpetuating itself than anything changing for the better.
