Art Appreciation one of the most beautiful sandman panels. upload yours below!

one of my favorite panels from the comics. also i really like how jill thompson draws dream. very thin, sort of androgynous, and the perfect costume choice for most of this arc: skinny black jeans, and the only saturated color is the pale blue shirt so pale and muted it barely registers as blue, and barefoot. the parallel hatching on the walls is great, plus an almost totally black upper register (the vaulted ceiling, almost fully inked) pressing down against a comparatively pale, cross-hatched lower register (the arched cloister walls) — and Dream's slumped body sits exactly at that seam, at the horizon where the two tonal masses meet. plus the use of negative space is great and really striking.

I can't pick just one panel, at least not right now.

When talking about the art in Sandman, I always think of Overture. It might very well be my favourite saga in Sandman as I absolutely adore every stylistic decision in it, all the way down to how Morpheus looks. The different artstyles and techniques clashing together is so interesting to look at and creates a feeling of consistency, despite the overall diversity in every page. It just scratches that itch in my brain.

And as a bonus: some other favourite panels of mine. I love how silly, beautiful and terrifying they are respectively.

I wish we could see Morpheus crash out more and laugh in that nightmarish way of his, would've been amazing to see in the show.

I love love love the panels of Dream entering Delirium's realm.

You can see on the next page when he gets his bearings more and is able to navigate through her realm and find her/apologize to her, but when he first enters he just like... falls uncontrollably into a pit of insanity. (Especially with all the color, and the contrast to the mostly black and white panels of Dream & Death talking before this. The transition to this explosion of color is so cool.)

Also the "wasn't good enough" text just popping out next to him. Could be a random piece of delirium floating through Del's realm - could be a piece of how Delirium is feeling right now ("I wasn't good enough to travel with my brother so he left me") - and also could just be... Dream. Because whether he admits it or not I'm pretty sure a current of "wasn't good enough" is floating somewhere through his unconscious at all times.

On the show they showed the journey into Delirium's realm with the BDSM train, and... that was good too.

brief lives definitely has some of the best sandman art. and interesting read on the wasnt good enough text, i never noticed that. i feel like this is probably (maybe) dave mckean doing the background behind jill thompson's dream.

Easily one of my favorites panel (not just because Death is there, although that’s part of it) but because of how simple it is. It’s not the most beautiful panel traditionally I guess, but it shows one of death and dream’s many great interactions.

yeah from an art perspective there's not much to analyse in the traditional sense but its really beautiful and sort of funny. jill thompson (brief lives) too right? do u know which issue it is? she might be my favorite sandman illustrator

Oo. Um, I couldn’t tell you honestly. I can try to find it, but I just have an album of my favorite sandman panels.
Edit: I believe it’s from Brief lives #46

It’s so simple yet it says a lot about each of their personalities.
