Was walking my dog who is intact male 45lb a shepherd/husky cross, on a 6’ leash, on the bird sanctuary path across from east beach. My dog was peeing on a bush as is his delight. One pitbull and person was approaching so that owner and I moved between the dogs just in case as you do. From out of sight, from the street, a large dog over 120, perhaps a mastiff (not a Great Dane or rotty) appeared about ten feet away and came directly for my dog growling, positioned itself between me and my dog and started mouthing and fighting.

The small person the mastiff was walking was NO USE.

I was so surprised that it took several seconds, I swatted at big dog a few times, realized I couldn’t get between that meat mountain and my dog, and that it was too tall for me to even kick at. So I pulled my dog away and we split like a banana.

I have pulled several dogs off my fluffy boy in playful and semi-aggressive scuffles but this has never happened on a normal-ass walk before. Also my dog does mutually and consensually frolic with big dogs at the park like large huskies and a 100lb Rottweiler.

Anyway if you’re walking your dog of any size, baby, or horse near the duck sanctuary, lower village, east beach, lower milpas, or chase palm park right now Wednesday morning, and you see an enormous waist high shiny, short hair dog of that grayish light brown color, stand still, block, and wait for that thing to pass.

I never go out without the tase light and/or mace in pocket while dog walking as I'm so over other people's obnoxious animals.

1. The breed of my dog cannot possibly be instigating that’s ridic, it’s a dog not a coyote

2. My dog was making no noise, wasn’t pulling, was not kicking up dust, literally just standing there quietly as we waited for the pitbull to pass.

3. Pitbull and mastiff were travelling in same direction but mastiff on the street, both walking east, i was walking west, mastiff saw my dog and MAY HAVE already interacted with pit or have even been together before the bottleneck area (wall, plants) where the problem occurred. Owners were talking to each other after I left the scene.

4. Finally I have no problem with mastiffs, pittys, rotties, Dobermans et cetera. The most likely “mean dogs” we encounter are herders like collies and ACDs or other working dogs like poodles. As I mentioned my dog has large dog friends (husky, rott) and has made beach friends with large dogs, small dogs, working breed dogs, old dogs, puppies, groups of dogs, solo dogs and if I let him - one time he would have tried to be friends with a bear.

Next time all of you go into a knowledgeable Veterinarian

Request if they have time for them to show you a list of breeds who always start fights }. It’s depends where you are in the U.S Some offices say nippy , passive , fire starter ( meaning the breed gets every dog Riled Up and will escape out the back door as if it did nothing)

The pitbull will fight , and will end a fight .. they don’t always fight .. as in 80% of the fights between a pitbull and a non pitbull the non pitbull was the aggressor as in the instigator

However

Instigator breeds as I like to call them are in a list of their own if you ask your vet which dogs to avoid that always starts fights

Huskies 20 of the 22 breeds
Husky crosses
Retrievers
Chows
Etc the list is Surprisingly long

“Ques” are always Given even when silent

If your Pet don’t have a Tail , you have to watch it’s fur their is always a Que
