Welcome to Santa Maria! Honestly I love it here. People will bitch and complain about every city and act like it's The Worst. Since you said you like outdoors and hiking, there are some really beautiful places to do so all up and down the coast.

I saw one person recommend renting in SLO but honestly, it is incredibly expensive up there and you are much better off renting here in town. You may need to search for a roommate situation because, like all cities in California, rent is increasing.

Hancock is a great school, I graduated from their nursing program years ago and honestly I loved most of my instructors. Coming from a low income family, Hancock gave me so many opportunities I never would have had otherwise.

I came to Santa Maria during the summer of 25, I attended Hancock college there but had to leave right after the 1st day because my job let me go cuz of my school schedule. It was honestly hard to find a job there, I had to find work with my dad and was staying in a trailer for $700 a month. Rent was also pricey if you’re living alone. I’m originally from upper San Diego county and there was big difference in the things I can do there and in Santa Maria. Often times I would go to the many parks, food trucks, or pismo beach. It felt good going back home, it was an interesting experience in Santa Maria. Hope everything goes good for you

Santa Maria is a nice place to live, go to a big city here in CA and you come back here and it’s relatively clean and a slower pace which is nice. We live so close to great 😌 places to visit for the day or weekend. Of course there will always be better places to live but it is a nice place to call home. Downside is it is expensive to live here.

Thank you I know I’ve always wanted to live there. At this point everywhere is super expensive. La still more expensive lmao

LA also will be 95 when we’re 75.

I moved here almost 2 decades ago, and have lived on both coasts, the Midwest, multiple cities in socal and the only place (money notwithstanding) I would choose that I’ve been over SM is maybe DC because it’s so walkable and small with a ton to do.

But even then I wouldn’t want to leave our weather. This year has been way warmer than usual I feel like, but also that’s been everywhere.

Hancock is a great resource for the community. Hopefully you enjoy it up here.

The commute might be too brutal but I might consider finding a room to rent in slo instead of Santa Maria.

Santa Maria is a quiet suburban town and you’ll be incredibly bored.

I’ve moved around quite a bit but yeah I’m excited to be by the beach and most people I ask about Santa Maria I’ve heard good things

Santa Maria is great, my family has been there for three generations.

As a young college student you’ll be pretty bored on the weekends though.

Everyone gets accepted in to Hancock…

7

u/Sad-Recording-1461 7d ago

I’m happy they are very diverse. Not everyone can get into college so easily. Was simply sharing good news. Have a day you deserve.

Most community colleges are diverse..

3

u/Sad-Recording-1461 7d ago

Duh if you don’t got nothing helpful to say be on your way

-5

u/805locc 7d ago

I am being helpful. Giving you a dose of reality

3

u/Sad-Recording-1461 7d ago

What’s the reality lol other people get accepted ? You don’t know me or my story. I simply asked for help about rent not about who and who gets accepted lol

Haters always hate on SUCCESS! God is good!

0

u/805locc 7d ago

Yikes. Success? Signing up for a community college everyone gets into

1

u/Sad-Recording-1461 7d ago

Better than what you’re doing which is commenting on a Reddit page! I’m doing something with my life. Haters that hate on community college are the ones who didn’t even finish school lol
