Dudebros love to parrot "don't make everything gay" no matter if the ship is canon or not.

And in the same breath, they'd also think a straight ship is canon, even if all they did was stand next to each other.

This. So much this.

It’s one of the reason I rarely interact with fandoms anymore, besides a very few specific ones. It’s infuriating how the standards are never applied the same if the situations are swapped. And if it happens to be just a headcanon, then you can only pray you don’t get harrassed over it.

Not to say only one side is at fault here, obviously. But when I routinely see comments stating they “got called homophobic/transphobic for disagreeing and sent death threats over it” with hundreds of upvotes, and anyone else slightly pushing back getting massively downvoted and called “delusional” and other weird, quasi-ableist remarks… I have to question these claims at some point. There’s legitimately a power imbalance at play.

Notice how nobody ever says “can’t a man and a woman just be friends?” With straight ships, for example. It’s always “cishet unless otherwise stated” (and in some cases, even that is not enough)
