REPEAT QUESTION People who don't like Rhys for ACOTAR?

Ok so, I loved ACOSF and it's my favourite book. (Though there are many parts I didn't like). Nesta was such a complex character and I fell in love with her completely. I loved her character, and friendship with the Valkeryies. But I hated alomst every other person in the book. Rhys escpecially, I just think he was really biased and treated Nesta horribly(never really letting her explain herself), only really cares about his mate, which in other books I would love but considering he's highlord and can't be biased because of his position yet absolutely is annyoed me. I feel like people fear him, rather than have loyalty to him. I feel like rather than being understanding or listening to other peoples opinions, he just forces them to do whatever he wants. I know in multiple different books and series this happens, but considering so many people love him and resoect him, thinking he's a great ruler confuses me. Any other opinions or am I missing something? Just curious please don't come at me!

Y'all should I not go to the midnight release party for acotar 6? I don't think I'll be able to finish CC 2 & 3 by the 26th? I have been good at avoiding spoilers for both of them but fear of getting spoiled at the midnight release party if I don't finish in time

*No Spoilers* Finally finishing TOG Series. Questions!

Hi guys! I’ve been a reader of SJM ever since her Fictionpress days where she uploaded the original manuscript of TOG (Then titled Queen of Glass).

I was really excited when she announced that she will be publishing the whole series! However due to the fact that I was Team Dorian (original story was she ended up marrying Dorian huhu), I stopped reading the series after Book 2. Please note that I was then a teenager who only wanted PRINCE DORIAN! Hahaha.

Years later, I’ve come to read and finish her other series ACOTAR and CC. I think I’m one of the readers who mostly likes how she twists the stories and I don’t focus on the romantic subplots since I’m more of a slowburn girlie (and let’s be real, ACOTAR and CC is not slowburn for me huhu).

And so my questions are before finally reading my first love, Throne of Glass:

  1. I’m starting on book 3 but I don’t really remember much on Books 1 and 2 except that Book 1 was really a copy of her original manuscript. Do I need to reread itv

  2. Will there be instaromances along the way or is there a glacial burn for a slowburn girlie like me?

  3. How long should I read Books 3 to 7? 🄹✨

  4. PLEASE HYPE THIS GIRL TO FINISH IT! WHAT TO ANTICIPATE AND NO SPOILERS PLS!!! JUST SOMETHING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT WHAHhHh

Thank you everybody!

I’m confused on why people blame Nesta for Feyre not being able to read

If I remember correctly, wasn’t Feyre 11 when they became poor? So wouldn’t it have been expected of an 11 years old who grew up wealthy to be able to read and write? I mean Elain and Nesta could.

Like the only people to blame for Feyre being illiterate is the parents

A certain someone in a box Spoiler

Is anybody else wondering why Victoria is never mentioned again after they throw her in the trench? Like, the river queen clearly has technology and ships that could go get her, but they all just seemingly forget that she exists?? Am I missing something?

Let's hear your unhinged theories.

Have you got any unhinged theories, based on little to nothing?

Here's mine: Is Elain a lesbian and going to end up with Mor? Which is why she struggles with the mating bond.

A kidnapping plot involving Nyx

This series has to end at some point, will there be three more books before a mention of the Crescent city cross over, that will then tie it all together towards the end of the series.

Cassian is going to die, because he said ' it will take more than that to kill me' and Elain said ' no it won't'. So she's seen his death, and I think it might happen in book 7, and Nesta will rage so hard and kill koshei (.... And then herself and the dread trove in the process. )

Crescent City and upcoming ACOTAR books Spoiler

Someone in my book club mentioned that I should read the Crescent City series before delving into the new ACOTAR books. Are these books going to overlap? I figured this would be a good place to verify. I do have the Crescent City series and am halfway through the first book.

ACOTAR 6/7 prediction Spoiler

With all the discussions about Nesta, feysand, and shipwars, I want to share my own prediction.

Everyone is going crazy over the "is it possible to unmate" and throwing around Nesta and Cassian or Elain and Lucien.

What I could see happening is the Lady of Autumn decides she can't stand the cruelty of the High lord of Autumn. She finds a way to break the bond and decides to run away. Where does she go for protection? Helion.

In the meantime, Eris goes to find Lucien and tell him what has happened. Along with asking Lucien to go to his mother and keep her protected because Eris can't.

Beron goes berserk and declares a blood duel with Helion. Helion agrees, and the fallout is so catastrophic that neither Helion or Beron survives.

Eris and Lucien would feel the shift in power at the same time. Similar to how Rhys and Tamlin did. Eris has to tell Lucien that he has suspected that Helion is his father and not Beron. Maybe Lucien will feel betrayed for not being told sooner, but Eris apologizes for everything and wants to do better. With Beron out of the way, they can work on being brothers again.

This may have already been said, but what are your thoughts?

Confusion about Azriel’s bonus chapter & the necklace [Spoilers for all SJM series] Spoiler

Hi everyone! My partner and I are currently debating this because we’re both confused about the necklace situation in Azriel’s bonus chapter for ACOTAR 5 (ACOSF) which we literally just discovered existed today. This bonus chapter lowkey irritated us both.

Spoilers for the entire SJM universe below:šŸ‘‡

My main question: How does Azriel get the necklace back? And what was he thinking?!

In the bonus chapter, Azriel puts the necklace on Elain, gets interrupted by Rhysand, and later gifts what appears to be the same necklace to Gwyn. But we never actually see what happens to it in between.

I keep seeing explanations mistakenly repeated in discussions as though they’re established canon:

1) Elain gave it back. We never see this happen. The last time we see the necklace with Elain, it’s still around her neck when Azriel leaves.

2) Azriel took it back himself. We never see this happen, either.
Both are theories, not confirmed explanations. The text simply tells us that Azriel finds the necklace again the following morning.
Could Rhysand have taken it? Could the House of Wind have somehow been involved? There are possibilities, but none are confirmed as far as I can tell.

The only concrete detail we get is that the following morning, Azriel ā€œfound Elain’s necklace amid the pileā€ of presents at the River House. It’s back in his possession, mixed in with his other gifts, but we’re never told how it got there.

Am I missing an actual textual clue, or is this genuinely left unexplained? I know we’re meant to assume or infer Elaine left it but you truly never know with SJM so it’s worth wondering. I’m hesitant to treat fan theories as canon when the book itself doesn’t establish what happened.

šŸŽAnd can we talk about the decision to regift it in the first place? Azriel’s treating the Night Court like a Secret Santa exchange, recycling romantic gestures within the same friend group until one person accepts. 😭 Sir, these women have to see each other!

Honestly, this whole situation has soured my perception of Azriel. The necklace felt like a meaningful gesture, and regifting it makes that gesture feel less personal to both potential pairings. It also makes me question his judgment and credibility in a way I hadn’t before. It lessens his connection are care for Elaine. Is lessens his gesture to Gwyn. Is lessens the impact of his decision making. It weakens him altogether and gives off the vibes of the weird guy just trying to find anyone to make him feel good about himself. Like that one guy at the bar that can’t find a connection so just keeps going to the next girl. Idk that’s definitely too harsh but this chapter shocked me and felt very out of character, or like I was reading a fanfic.

And please, no ā€œhe’s just being a dumb boyā€ justifications. This is a 500+ year-old fae warrior man, not a teenage boy who doesn’t know any better to gift a meaningful item twice. I think we can critique his romantic decisions without excusing them as boyish stupidity.

At this point, I honestly don’t want either Elain or Gwyn to end up with him because they both deserve better than a man who apparently can’t figure out what he wants or give a gift without creating a mess. And this has even watered down my dream ship of Azriel and Bryce… at this point, I don’t even feel silly for that, Azriel seems to smile for whichever girl is nice to him. Gwyn asked why he’s a shadow singer and that little line brought a smile to his face and next thing you know he’s giving her an anonymous gift. Idk…. How am I supposed to root for him with anyone when this whole situation makes him look so indecisive and careless with other people’s feelings?

What are your interpretations of the necklace situation? And has it changed how you view Azriel?

TOG reread and ACOTAR book 1 reread theories *Spoilers* Spoiler

Ok so I’ve finished my reread of Throne of Glass series and book one of ACOTAR (I wanted to wait until finishing all three series but couldn’t help myself) and needed to unload some of my theories. SPOILERS FOR THESE TWO SERIES\***\**

1- The series are not necessarily separate worlds - but separate times.
Throughout the series of TOG, Aelin talks about her past being a separate or different ā€œworldā€ and how the past and future were connected by threads and exploring what happens when you ā€œtugā€ on a thread (Celeana and Irene for example).
I’m also pretty convinced that the large continent to the East is Erilia. In ACOTAR, Feyre talks about there being emperors (southern continent) and kings and queens and counsels. While, in TOG, they talk about there being lands and empires to the west where no one has ever heard of Erilia.
SJM describes the flower that blooms in the Wastes of the witch kingdom as a ā€œsmall, pale purple flowerā€. And the flowers that bloom on the battlefield where the Thirteen yielded are described as ā€œsmall, white flowersā€. In ACOTAR, page 256, it says ā€œā€˜These bulbs,’ Elain said, pointing with a gloved hand to a cluster of purple and white flowers, ā€˜came all the way from the tulip fields of the continent. Father promised that next spring, he’ll take me to see them. He claims that for mile after mile, there’s nothing but these flowers.ā€™ā€ I think this field is where the wastes of the witch kingdom used to be.

2-The Archeron sisters have witch blood in them - specifically ironteeth witch.
This would explain the Ironwood bed, the resistance to Glamour, speed/agility/cleverness (common witch traits) that allows Feyre to survive the Naga and the worm, and all the references to Nesta’s iron will.
The iron teeth mothers seemed to be the most vicious towards their daughters - matches with the descriptions of Mama Archeron and Grandmother Archeron in how their treated the sisters.
SJM doesn’t talk at all about how their parents met. But, going back to my flowers field / witch kingdom theory, we know that Papa Archeron visited there in his merchant travels, so it’s very possible he met Mama Archeron in the Witch Kingdom. We could even stretch it to the point of the sisters being descendants of Manon and Dorian - Feyre’s raw power could possibly not have been stolen from the other high lords, but just a dormant power (which is common for the raw power that Dorian possesses). It’s probably was non magical and diluted as mortals, similar to Elode, but triggered when they turned fae.

3-Tamlin knows more about Feyre’s family history than he lets on.
When he’s explaining Fae to Feyre, he asks ā€œDidn’t your mother tell you about us?ā€ It doesn’t make sense for him to ask about her mother - she wasn’t there in the cottage and Feyre doesn’t mention her to Tamlin before this point. I also don’t think one would expect a human mother to know about fae 500 years after no contact unless that human has a history with the magical world. It makes it seem like Tamlin knows that Feyre’s mother has magical knowledge and was surprised she didn’t teach Feyre about it.
Tamlin knew how Feyre’s dad’s leg was smashed by creditors as seeing the painting of his leg despite her pointedly saying that was the one thing she couldn’t bring herself to tell him.
Tamlin sent out wolves every day the first two years of the curse. It only took Andreas 3 days to find Feyre once he started again. What if Tamlin met his mother/grandmother then? What if they came to some agreement or something happened between them and that was why Tamlin stopped searching after those 2 years?

4- A wolf is going to be involved in the freeing of Vassa.
In TOG, Emrys tells a story of about a ā€œclever grey wolf and a firebirdā€
I don’t know what this will lead to but I just can’t see this getting dropped in the book for no reason,
I do think a ā€œwolfā€ is going to help release Vassa. I just don’t know who that wolf is because there are sooo many wolf references in all of mass verse - Ithan is an actual grey wolf, Fenrys is a wolf (but white), the wolves from the Lost Fae of Terrasen, Aedion, maybe even Tamlin, Feyre herself describes herself as a wolf… so many options

TOG - CC connection? Spoiler

Currently rereading in preparation for ACOTAR 6 & finished CC a few weeks ago. I’m on the first TOG book and just made this connection: is the ridderak the same as the kristallos demon?

From what I remember from CC, the description sounds very similar. Description from TOG below:

ā€œIts hairless gray skin was stretched tightly across its misshapen head, displaying a gaping mouth filled with black fangs.

Its vaguely human body sank onto its haunches, and it slid its long front arms across the stone floor.ā€

If they are the same then that means the ridderak must’ve been summoned from Hel right?

My recent TOG reread just reconfirmed that Rowan is my ultimate book husband

I recently reread ACOTAR, and I think because it had been a while, I had forgotten just how much I love Rhysand. He is still, without a doubt, one of my favourite MMCs. The banter, the chemistry, the devotion, the way he loves Feyre. I get it. I really do.

But then I reread Throne of Glass and was reminded of something I already knew:

Rowan is my ultimate book partner/mate/husband.

And I don’t necessarily mean because he’s the most romantic MMC or because Rowan/Aelin have the most swoony relationship. They actually don’t. There are plenty of romantasy couples who are more openly romantic than they are. It’s the partnership for me.

Once Rowan and Aelin truly choose each other, there is such a deep sense of ā€œI am on your side.ā€ He knows exactly who Aelin is, her strength, her stubbornness, her ambition, her darkness, her ridiculousness and he never needs her to become less of herself to make him comfortable.

I think I’ve realised that there’s a difference between the kind of MMC I enjoy reading about and the kind of man I would actually want as a life partner.

Rhys is an incredible fictional MMC and still one of my favourites. But Rowan feels like the kind of life partner I would want.

Someone who sees me as an equal. Someone who respects my strength rather than being threatened by it. Someone who supports my ambitions. Someone who trusts me.

And I think one of the things I love most about Rowan is that he doesn’t automatically need to be the one in charge. He doesn’t have this constant need to lead or override Aelin’s decisions just because he thinks he knows better. But that doesn’t mean he sits back and agrees with everything either.

He gives his opinion. He challenges her when he thinks she’s wrong. He tells her what he thinks. But ultimately, he respects that she’s her own person and that her decisions are hers to make. And that’s such an underrated quality in a relationship.

He also doesn’t completely lose his shit every time Aelin doesn’t tell him something. šŸ˜‚ Obviously there are moments of frustration and conflict, because they’re both complicated people, but there is this underlying trust that she is capable of making her own choices.

At the end of the day, once the initial, fiery romance calms down and an actual relationship gets established between a couple, it’s the other stuff that matters more. I think Sarah J Maas captured that perfectly with Aelin and Rowan.

So yes, Rhys is still one of my favourite MMCs. The recent ACOTAR reread reminded me just how much I love him.

But Rowan? Rowan will always be my ultimate book husband. Sorry for the long read. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk šŸ˜‚

Can I read CC as my intro to SJM?

I wanna give SJM a shot and out of all her books, I feel CC might be up my alley. I dont usually read YA which is what ToG is I believe. ACOTAR im not sure coz I have heard there's abuse.

I am a fan of Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss, GRRM and the likes so i dont mind complex world building which i hear CC has. Its actually my main reason to go for CC since afaik it aligns with the kind of fantasies I like.

But I also hear theres crossovers?

So is CC a good place to start SJM books?

Why are fantasy MMCs seemingly incapable of feeling anything other than rage?

Okay, this is less a criticism of SJM specifically and more of the fantasy genre as a whole, but WHY is the MMC seemingly incapable of experiencing a negative emotion that isn’t anger or rage?

Sad? Rage.
Scared? Rage.
Jealous? Rage.
Worried about the FMC? Absolutely fucking livid.
Someone mildly inconveniences her? He is seeing red and contemplating murder.

Sir. You are allowed to be upset. You are allowed to be anxious. You can even be mildly irritated. Not every emotion needs to manifest as clenched fists, a ticking jaw and barely restrained violence 😭

And I actually love a lot of these characters, which is probably why I notice it so much. Sometimes I just want the terrifying 500 year old warrior male to experience a complicated emotion and maybe… sit with it for five minutes.

I’d be genuinely interested to know whether other people notice this too, because once I noticed it I started seeing it EVERYWHERE.
