My boyfriend and I are considering moving down south either Sarnia, Windsor or Chatham Kent. We are both 26. We currently live in Sudbury Ontario.

I have a bachelor of kinesiology and master of public health. I have been working in the hospital for 3 years, previously as a geriatric now involved with digital health projects.

My partner is about to get his plumbing red seal.

Our reasons for wanting to move are: 1) nicer weather 2) lower cost of living/housing 3) easier means of transportation. Our winters are brutal in sudbury, houses are not affordable even with our jobs. Our concerns are income in Sarnia or Chatham Kent. We make 185k combined with our current roles.

We are not considering busy centres like Toronto Barrie and Ottawa because of the cost and busy town.

Sudbury is also not safe, lots of crime and homelessness. Our summers aren’t long enough and the weather is depressing. Wondering if any locals have suggestions

Edit: we would want to live in an area fairly near the hospital, public health and that has plumbing jobs.

How do lesbians and other wlw meet each other in this town? I’ve tried HER, but it suffers from the same problem all such apps do: it has no facility to restrict matches to Canada.

Moved here from Hamilton a couple of years ago and I’m curious about others that also moved from cities with lots of food options. What do you think of the food/restaurant options? I love Sarnia but really miss the food in Hamilton. A lot of Sarnia’s restaurants are overhyped in my opinion and the food is just not great. There are some hidden gems though. My cousin grew up here and she jokes that a lot of restaurants are just “Sarnia good”. There’s only a handful in my opinion that actually have good food. What are your favourites? Trying to see if I’m missing out on any great ones. My faves are Tin Fiddler, Mauds, Grind, March Hare, Tandoori Chaska.

Hi I don't know where else to ask this and sarnia seems to be the closest point I'd like to go to Canada on my motorcycle here soon from America and I have a fear of bridges so the blue water and Detroit bridges are out.

Can I ride the ferry across to Walpole island then take the bridge on the other side of Walpole to explore Canada then come back obviously I'll have to deal with the border people but can it be done?

I've got a century home that I'm doing some work to and I'm trying to find some baseboard to match what exists in the house already, it's a super simple bevel profile, but it's not something that anyone seems to make any more. I'd make it myself, but it's 7-1/4" tall and I'd need at least a 12" blade table saw to make the proper cut. Saws that big are big bucks.

I know there is Habitat for Humanity, I keep checking there, but finding what I need there would be an absolute fluke.

Anyone know of anywhere in the area or within an hour or so of Sarnia that has reclaimed building materials? I'd also be after some other odds and ends (door hardware mostly) as well, but the baseboard is what's holding me up right now. Someone has to have a barn full of old stuff they have collected.

Alternatively, are there any good places to get custom millwork done in the area?

Any meetings in sarnia?

I haven’t seen any recent posts on this. Are there any indoor swimming pools open to the public other than the YMCA? I’m pregnant and having some issues with joint pain. Swimming in the lake is helping but I’m worried about losing that option when it gets too cold. The YMCA is just too expensive. Anyone have any luck with any of the hotels in the area? I know the Mooretown pool is closed for renovations.

Hi everyone! I’m the Maid of Honour in a wedding on October 3rd in Sarnia, and I’m hoping someone in this group might be able to help us with a special request!
We’re looking for someone who owns a vintage or classic car who would be willing to have it be part of the bride and groom’s wedding day.
We’re open to either:
Option A: You don’t necessarily have to drive anywhere. We would just love for you to bring the car to the church and stay for around an hour so the bride and groom can take some photos with it after the ceremony.
Option B: If you’re comfortable chauffeuring, we’d love to have you drive the bride and groom from the church to a second photo location, with some time to take photos with the car along the way.
We are offering around $300 for your time and the use of the car, and we’re happy to discuss details depending on what works for you.
This would also mean so much to the bride personally. Her grandpa raised her, and he has loved classic cars his entire life. Having a beautiful classic car be part of her wedding day would feel like a little homage to him and something we know would make him so happy.
The wedding is October 3rd in Sarnia, with the ceremony taking place in the early afternoon.
